Resort Pamporovo

If you are interested in ski resorts in Bulgaria, you should definitely visit Pamporovo. It is located near Plovdiv (85 km), in the south of the country. It has a pleasant, mild climate. many clear and sunny days. Greek myths claim that the musician and singer of ancient times, Orpheus, was born in these places.

Today Pamporovo in terms of attendance is quite worthy of competition with well-known European resorts. On its territory there are several dozens of great trails, both for beginners and professionals.

Ski resorts in Bulgaria (reviews of tourists confirm this) attract families with children to rest. Much is being done here to organize the recreation of young tourists and introduce them to skiing.

The ski areas of this complex are located on the slopes of a mountain with a cute and pretty name Snezhanka. The tracks are laid at an altitude of 1500 to 2000 meters. Many of them are recommended exclusively for professionals, but there are very simple ones, designed for beginners. They are distinguished by a gentle relief and a large width of slopes.

Freeride and snowboard lovers can also have a good rest here. There are special areas for them. There are also tracks for giant slalom. But they are intended for specialists of a narrow profile. Fans of off-piste skiing enthusiastically master virgin lands.

Where to stay

The best ski resorts in Bulgaria have a huge number of hotels, hotels of various levels of comfort. This will allow everyone to choose a room according to their financial capabilities. In Pamporovo, the Perelik, Orlovets, Snezhanka hotels are especially popular. Each of these hotels offer their guests a variety of entertainment, along with traditional hotel services. All hotels are located near the ski lifts.

There are many luxurious restaurants and cozy cafes in Pamporovo, where you will be offered excellent dishes of Bulgarian cuisine.

Rest in Vitosha-Aleko complex

Mount Vitosha is part of national park Bulgaria. Residents of the capital love to relax here. Snow lies in this area for 150 days a year, and the average winter air temperature does not exceed -6°C. These places have hosted the World University Games twice.

A small tourist complex is located on the southern outskirts of Sofia. It is the highest ski resort in Bulgaria. Its 29 kilometers of slopes are created at an altitude of 1650-2290 m. The lift takes 25 minutes to reach the base.

For lovers of cross-country skiing, 11 km of excellent skiing tracks have been laid here. Their total length is a little over 4500 m. The tracks are able to take 3600 people per hour.

There are three lift zones on Vitosha. All of them are served by different companies. Therefore, you need to buy a separate ticket for each of them.

Ski resorts in Bulgaria (you can see photos of some of them in our article) have a large number of big and small restaurants. Vitosha was no exception. Here, at the foot of the mountain, you can visit cozy cafes and enjoy Bulgarian cuisine, visit discos and bars in the evening.

Tourists are especially delighted with traditional winter carnivals and original ski evenings, exciting competitions for those who have started skiing for the first time.

On the eastern slopes of Vitosha there are routes for climbers. In addition, here you can see the longest cave in Bulgaria Duhlata. Its length is 17.5 km. It has seven levels and six rivers flow through it.

Malyovitsa - a corner of paradise

If you are planning to spend your vacation in a quiet place, but at the same time go skiing, then the ski resorts in Bulgaria will provide you with such an opportunity. It is enough to come to remote corner called Malyovitsa - small resort where you can have a great rest with your family or alone.

A bit of history

In the 1950s, activists and skiing enthusiasts decided to set up an extreme sports training school in the area. She became the only one in the Balkans. Here, future instructors and mountain guides gained experience. Since then, there have been excellent slopes with a total length of 4 kilometers and five lifts.

Resort today

The Rila Mountains, or rather their Bulgarian part, are "hidden" in the northwest beautiful mountain Malyovitsa. It is here that the resort described by us is located. It is located at an altitude of about 1800 meters. The climate at the foot of the mountain is mild - cold northern winds do not get here. Best time for a holiday in this place - February. At this time, a lot of snow falls here, and the air does not cool below 10 degrees.

In addition to skiing, you can go mountain climbing here. This is a great place for beginner mountain climbers.

Dobrinishte

Ski and spa resort located at an altitude of 830 meters in the Pirin Mountains. The best time for skiing is from December to April.

There are two lifts. The length of the tracks is 3.2 km. The height of Bezbog peak is 2645 m.

The length of the tracks is 8.4 km.

Bulgarian resorts: reviews of tourists

I would like to note right away that everyone who was lucky enough to relax in this hospitable country in winter is captivated by its beauty. As tourists note, all ski resorts in Bulgaria are distinguished by the highest level of service, not inferior to European counterparts, and in some ways even surpassing it. On any of them you can stay in hotels from 2 * to 5 *. But most importantly, in each of them you are met and served throughout your stay so friendly and professionally that it seems that you were expected here.

Many who have visited the ski resorts in Bulgaria, kind words are addressed to the security services, which carry out their difficult round-the-clock service on all slopes.

Russian tourists thank the Bulgarians for the opportunity to relax with their children and show them the fabulous beauty of this country.

Many warm words are also received by Bulgarian culinary specialists, who surprise even sophisticated tourists with their skill.

About summer Bulgaria and promised to tell about ski resorts closer to winter. The cold weather is still far away, but it's time to plan a vacation. We tell you where in Bulgaria you can go skiing (and not only).

Why Bulgaria?

This is a great option for those who are already rather tired of traveling to Bukovel, but there is no confidence or opportunity to go, for example, to the Alps. Here good list reasons:

  • Ski tourism in Bulgaria is only developing and the prices there are much lower than in more popular resorts.
  • Bulgaria is close (well, relatively, of course, but it is quite possible to go on vacation by car).
  • A simplified visa is issued to Bulgaria - it is enough to pay a consular fee and fill out an application form.
  • Equipment for the ski slopes in Bulgaria (lifts, ski lifts, etc.) was purchased in Austria. Yes, this is used equipment, but the Bulgarians zealously monitor its quality, inviting Austrian specialists for technical inspection at the beginning and at the end of the season (at least, the Bulgarians themselves told us so).

Now you can get acquainted with the resorts themselves, of which we will consider three.

Pamporovo

Pamporovo is when you drive for a long, long time along winding roads up through a pine forest, and then you find yourself in winter fairy tale. This resort is not the most popular, because it is more designed for beginners and amateurs. family vacation.

Pamporovo is the closest resort to Plovdiv airport, but even in winter there are no flights from Ukraine to Plovdiv, so you have to get from Sofia, which is 260 km. If you fly from Europe, then from Plovdiv to Pamporovo 85 km, and this significantly improves the situation. In general, due to the inaccessibility, Papmorovo is not very popular with residents of Ukraine and the CIS countries - Bulgarians themselves and tourists from neighboring Greece, who live near the border, go there more often (by the way, 30 km to the Greek border).

Photo mouzenidis.ua

The resort compensates for the lack of popularity with the service: here, for example, the Orlovets Hotel is located - the best of all the dozens that I had a chance to see in Bulgaria. Almost all hotels offer shuttle buses to the ski lifts and back, incredible views of the mountains open from the windows, prices in local taverns are kept at the “for local” level.

There are runs for kids, beginners, some red runs, some black runs, a slalom run, a half-pipe for snowboarders and a 25 km run for cross-country skiers. Here you can see the prices for ski passes, equipment rental, training school, etc. All prices in euro.

In addition to winter sports, Pamporovo has thermal springs and balneological centers, but we didn’t go there, so we won’t lie. But we went to Devin (a town 30 km from Pamporovo), and we definitely declare that there are springs there, and right in the hotels. This is generally the most famous and largest spa resort in Bulgaria, so you can even take a taxi to relax for a day or two.

Average slope height: 1500-1700 meters. Peaks: Snezhanka (1925 m), Murgavets (1858 m). A few important facts:

  • In Pamporovo, you can only ride, go to thermal springs and drink mulled wine. For historically valuable objects, you will have to go somewhere else.
  • Rumor has it that it was in these parts that Orpheus was born (yes, yes, everything is so serious, even the city of Orpheus is not far away);
  • Orlovets prepares European food. Right here is quite normal, tasty, European food. And if you, like me, cannot bear local cuisine, then here's a life hack for you.
  • Pamporovo has the largest number of sunny days in winter. Of all the snow resorts, of course.

Bansko is an ideal option for when you want to relax and go skiing. The city itself is located at an altitude of 900 meters and appeared almost during the time of the Roman Empire. Of course, there is no exact data, but this is one of the oldest cities. In addition, it is large - about 9,000 residents live here, plus winter tourists and workers who come for seasonal work.

You can just walk in Bansko - there is a lot of folk architecture of the 18th-19th centuries, several museums, churches, a bunch of cafes, taverns, bars, etc. In addition, there is railroad station, though trains go only to neighboring cities.

Photo banskoski.com

You can get to Bansko from Sofia - the distance is about 150 km, buses run regularly, you can order a transfer from the hotel or rent a car. Bansko is said to be the best Bulgarian ski resort. This statement looks plausible: the city captivates with a successful combination of not only sports, but also visual and historical components.

Ski slopes are located above the city, at an altitude of 900 to 2600 meters. The total length of the slopes in different ski areas is about 75 km, and there are places for winter sports enthusiasts of any level of training. Here is a map of the resort, so as not to be verbose (you can open it in a new window and the resolution will be larger).

At

Bansko has only one drawback: the queues for the lift. The fact is that the main lift goes up from the city, and shorter ones start higher in different directions. Due to the fact that there is only one lift, and there are many tourists, on top days (for example, at Christmas, New Year) will have to stand in line for almost an hour or two. The ski lift is located at the Kempinski Hotel, so you can cheat a little and choose accommodation near the ski lift to queue a little less. Prices for rent, schools, equipment, ski lifts -.

Do not forget that the price is in euros.

A few important facts:

  • Guests of the Kempinski Hotel, who bought ski passes there, go to the lift without a queue: they have a separate gate for boarding.
  • You can ride almost until April - the power of snow cannons is enough to cover the track even at +15.
  • There is an illuminated trail for night skiing.
  • As usual, about food - in the city there are not only mechanics and taverns, but also modern cafes with European cuisine. And even a disco, yeah.
  • In the center of the city flows the river Glazne, clad in stone on both sides. It's not just like that - spring, snow melts, streams descend from the mountains, the river fills up ... well, you understand, right? Can flood.

Borovets

Borovoets is the closest ski resort to Sofia, only 70 kilometers from the capital of Bulgaria. It is also one of the oldest ski resorts - people skied here half a century ago. The tracks are at the level of 1300-2500 meters, and in total they occupy a little more than 40 km.

Borovets is more suitable for professionals, although there are enough ski schools, including for children, and the resort itself is divided into three zones according to the level of training. Just like in Bansko, there is a ski run for night skiing, which closes at 22:00.

Borovets impresses with the fact that you can leave the hotel, walk two steps and take the lift - you don’t need to go anywhere or walk for a long time. Of course, from lower hotels it may not be so convenient, but a booked room on time solves these problems. At the same time, the city can accommodate up to 10,000 tourists, and all the infrastructure here is made for them: bars, restaurants, night shows, etc. But Borovets is a young city, built at the end of the 19th century specifically as a place for the nobility to relax, so there is absolutely nothing to see in it. But you can go on excursions to nearby attractions: royal residences, Rila lakes, monastery, etc.
