But Bansko is not just a resort, it's not just a bunch of hotels and pensions that are built for the joy of tourists. This is an old Bulgarian town with its own history, traditions and monuments. And this is what makes Bansko the most popular resort in Bulgaria.

I must say that only in Bansko, of all the resorts in Bulgaria, the longest season for skiers. It starts at the very beginning of December, and ends only in May.

In addition to the mountains themselves ski slopes in Bansko you can just walk around the streets and look at the houses of local residents. I must say that most of them were built in the 18-19 centuries, and people are very concerned about the safety of their homes. In the very center of the city there is Orthodox Church Holy Trinity, which was built in 1835. In addition, there are a lot of mineral springs in the city itself and near it.

Glorious Bansko and its Bulgarian restaurants. And these are not just restaurants in our understanding. This is also a small wine cellar that will meet you with an incredible amount of a wide variety of wines. This is a tavern, which is famous throughout the district for its national dishes, and the way to which you can find by smell. This is a pizzeria where they cook incredibly tasty and fragrant pizza. And, of course, the Sharkovata Kyshta mechanic, which will delight you with its hospitality and service in Russian.

Borovets

No less popular is another ski resort in Bulgaria - Borovets. It is located 70 kilometers from Sofia on the slope of Rila Mountain. Unlike Bansko, Borovets is not just a city. This place was founded as a hunting ground, and was the most popular place the Bulgarian kings. But time has passed and today anyone can enjoy all the beauty of this place. And the knowledge that the real kings once lived and hunted here gives some piquancy.

Unlike Bansko, Borovets is not just a city. This place was founded as a hunting ground, and was the most popular place among the Bulgarian kings.

It is here that the longest and most comfortable ski slopes are located. It is here that not ordinary people act as coaches - lovers of alpine skiing, but real athletes, some of whom once competed at the Olympics and won medals.

This resort town has just a huge number of hotels. After all, over the entire winter season, more than one thousand people rest here. And the service in these hotels is always maintained at a very high level.

It is impossible to forget the ski slopes, which are equipped to the highest standard, and skiing on which brings a lot positive emotions. It is impossible to forget Bulgaria itself, which gives its tourists all the kindest and most expensive that is in this country.

Ski resorts in Bulgaria have traditionally been and certainly remain one of the most popular and accessible for Russian winter sports enthusiasts. The advantage of the ski resorts in Bulgaria, in addition to the low cost, is the presence of such slopes that both beginners and children can ride, and the absence of a language barrier, a good choice inexpensive hotels and apartments, the minimum set of documents for obtaining a visa. Bulgaria is not only excellent ski resorts, it is also excellent wine that you can taste in these very resorts, this is the highest class service, these are mineral springs and the treatment of many diseases. In general, Bulgaria is a very interesting and multifaceted country. In the past few years, the ski resorts in Bulgaria have begun to develop rapidly and many tourists have already managed to appreciate their advantages.

Bansko is the most equipped resort.

One of the main ski resorts in the country is Bansko, located 220 km from Sofia. “Bansko appeared on the map of ski resorts in Bulgaria in the early 90s. The very fact that the resort is located on the territory of the Pirin National Park, which is listed world heritage UNESCO is already making Bansko incredibly attractive for tourists who appreciate the beauty and grandeur of nature. The Pirin mountain range of the same name with the park is headed by the highest peak Vihren (2915 meters), at the foot of which there are about 200 amazingly beautiful lakes. 56 km of prepared slopes, 13 lifts. Decent skiing heights: 930 - 2560 m above sea level. The resort offers all the possibilities for different categories of skiers. For the little ones, there is a special kindergarten, where kids will be taught to ride in a playful way. Beginners will be offered the services of Russian-speaking skiing and snowboarding coaches. As for the slopes, they are designed for the needs of skiers of different levels of skiing. A special pride in Bansko is a unique ski track that goes into the forest for 16 kilometers (skiing on virgin lands). Ski slopes are located south of Bansko, on the spurs of Mount Todorka. Near the top station of the ski lift there is the only Halfpipe in Bulgaria. Bansko is famous for the longest and snowiest season, which lasts from December 15 to May 15. It is divided into three ski areas, depending on the degree of difficulty. If Shiligarnika is offered for development to those who feel confident enough on skis, then Chalin-Valon is specially equipped for beginner skiers, and Banderishka Polyana will be most liked by cross-country skiers. Bansko is interesting because it differs from other European ski resorts. It is a full-fledged city with thousands of inhabitants, its attractions, skating rinks, clubs, casinos, shops, bus stations and so on. The main attraction of Bansko is Old city, it is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List and has existed on earth for more than one century. If you want a quiet, measured rest, then you need to choose a hotel in the old part of the city. If you are a fan of more modern entertainment and rest. Then you need to settle in a new part of the city. There are nightclubs, restaurants, bars, discos and life there seething day and night, regardless of the time of year. And closer to the ski lifts. In order to go skiing, you don’t need to go anywhere, the ski lift is right in the city, you can take a taxi from the old town or walk and already be on ski slope. If you do not want to spend money on a taxi or go to the ski lift on foot, then you can use the services of a ski bus, they go like fixed-route taxi around the city and collected at stops, wishing to get to the ski lift, this pleasure costs 1-2 euros per person. In addition, many hotels provide ski bus services for their guests for free. And the hotels in Bansko have one interesting feature– saunas. Hotels provide saunas to their guests for free, but to other tourists for a fee. After excellent skiing, Bansko offers to relax in cozy local restaurants. They are called "mehana" here. There are several hundred of them in Bansko! Or you can light up at one of the city's nightclubs. Shoppers can buy goods at local sports stores much cheaper than in Russia.

There are other resorts in Bulgaria - Chepelare, Vitosha, Dobrinishte. They are not so large, and mostly the inhabitants of Bulgaria themselves ride there.

It seems surprising that warm countries can attract lovers of winter active rest. But this is true, and Bulgaria can serve as an excellent example, the ski resorts of which annually gather many tourists from different countries.

Some are attracted by the mild climate, others by a short transfer, others by an excellent level of service at low prices, four by the ability to easily find mutual language with local residents.

All these factors are also important for parents planning a winter holiday with children in Bulgaria. Kidpassage offers to understand why ski tours to this country are becoming increasingly popular, and what benefits will bring.

Alpine skiing in Bulgaria

There are ski regions known even to those who have never skied - the Alps, for example. But following the apt remark that only mountains can be better than mountains, we suggest learning more about mountain ranges on the territory of Bulgaria: Rhodopes, Pirin and Rila. It is on their slopes that the best ski resorts in Bulgaria are located.

Ski tourism is not a new direction in the country's tourism industry. But in the last decade, this market segment has been actively developing, and the quality of equipment for ski centers has been growing.

At the same time, the winter resorts of Bulgaria maintain low prices for accommodation and skiing. It is safe to say that in this country the ratio of price and quality of services is pleasantly pleasing.

Summer holidays in Bulgaria have long ceased to need advertising - this country has been considered a children's health resort since Soviet times. And how suitable is ski Bulgaria for children? If you carefully consider, then you can organize a full and enjoyable vacation for the whole family.

Ski resorts in Bulgaria

by the most suitable places Bansko, Borovets and Pamporovo are considered for winter family holidays in Bulgaria. Their main trump card is the availability of ski schools for adults and children. It is very easy to take the first steps accompanied by professional instructors, especially since many of them know Russian.

Mountain resorts in Bulgaria have a stable snow cover. This is favored by the height of the tracks - an average of 2000-2500 meters above sea level.

Good snow cover lasts in the middle of the season, but at the beginning and towards the end of the season (in December and April) there may be little snow. If necessary, artificial snowing of the tracks is carried out.

As a rule, all resorts have separate ski areas for beginners and advanced skiers. The trails are well marked, the safety of skiing is maintained at the proper level.

The slopes are equipped with modern lifts of various types. Sometimes reviews of Bulgarian ski resorts contain complaints about the meager après-ski program.

Indeed, among the available entertainment, mainly sledding and acquaintance with local cuisine. Therefore, holidays in these places are suitable for families with kids who do not yet need a wide cultural program.

The level of service in hotels is quite high. It is easy to find a hotel with a kids club or a games room. Apart-hotels are also common in Bansko, which are suitable for those who prefer to take care of healthy food for the child on their own.

Note that the Bulgarians also like to relax in the Rhodope, Pirin and Rila mountains. A lot of tourists come to the ski resorts of the country during the New Year and Christmas holidays and in early March, on the Martenitsa holiday.

Bansko: the newest Bulgarian winter resort

“Among the snowy Pirin Mountains, Mount Vihren rises ...” - this is not the beginning of a fairy tale, but a description of the ski resort of Bansko.

The city lies in a valley near Vihren, and skiing trails are laid on Mount Todorka. Winter abundantly covers the mountain slopes with snow, and the season in Bansko lasts from December to April - longer than in other resorts in Bulgaria.

The main principle of Bansko, as well as other ski centers in Bulgaria: everything you need at an affordable price. Good conditions for skiing are created by skibuses, modern lifts, slopes of varying difficulty, equipment for artificial snowmaking, equipment rental, ski schools.

The resort is dominated by difficult pistes, although there are also plenty of wide blue pistes. Beginner skiers who have just left the ski school can choose short routes or go down the connected pistes with a length of more than 10 km.

Secondly, instead of skiing, the kids will have a wonderful time in kindergarten, while their parents will force on the slopes. Thirdly, the whole family is very cool to go sledding or skating.

And fourthly, in many Bansko hotels there are children's mini-clubs and indoor pools, which helps to diversify the child's leisure time.

However, there are no attractions nearby. But maybe you will find it interesting mountain lakes where winter fishing is organized. Trout is bred in the lakes, so you are guaranteed a delicious lunch or dinner.

Transfer to Bansko is not very difficult. There are direct buses from Sofia to this ski resort. The city itself is relatively compact, so you can not look for accommodation near the ski lift, but pay attention to the set of services you need at the hotel.

Borovets: the oldest Bulgarian ski resort

On the fir-covered slopes of the Rila Mountains, snow lies for five months of the year. The stingy winter landscape of these places is colored by the bright costumes of skiers who came to relax in the ski resort of Borovets.

It is located at the foot of Musala, the most high mountain Bulgaria. The quiet and cozy town is perfect for living with children, and its possibilities as a ski resort have long been appreciated by the Bulgarians themselves and tourists from other countries.

Experienced skiers are pleased with the quality red and black runs laid in ski areas "Yastrebets" and "Markudzhik".

Those who have just decided to start skiing are ready to help in ski schools. Each of them has a children's department with an equipped area for teaching children. The youngest guests of the resort will find a kindergarten where they can also learn skiing.

And instructors will help teenagers to master not only skiing, but also snowboarding. Beginners and families with children ride in the Borovets zone. It is located below other ski areas, protected from the wind by tall trees, so it is very pleasant to relax there.

Winter holidays in Borovets are not full of entertainment. However, the usual snow fun lead children to no less delight than amusement parks. Entertainment for parents can be acquaintance with the traditional cuisine of Bulgaria in cozy restaurants-mehans and relaxation in pools with thermal water.

Despite the fact that Borovets is only 76 km from Sofia Airport, getting there is a little more difficult than in Bansko. In order not to travel with transfers, you can order an individual transfer or use a taxi.

Pamporovo: Bulgaria's southernmost ski resort

The Rhodope Mountains are located in the southern part of Bulgaria, and from the ski resort of Pamporovo to the border with Greece - only a few tens of kilometers.

Despite this, the slopes of the Rhodopes are covered with snow in winter and are perfect for downhill skiing. The mild climate with a slight frost favors outdoor recreation.

In addition, Pamporovo is also the sunniest ski resort in Bulgaria, so you can return with winter holiday with signature Bulgarian tan.

The southernmost winter resort in Europe (at least in Eastern Europe) lies at the foot of Mount Snezhanka. Its gentle slopes are equipped with wide, safe blue runs for beginners and for those who like calm skiing.

Ski school instructors will help both adults and children get used to skiing. For kids, the resort has a kindergarten.

For skiers from great experience skiing there is an opportunity to conquer several difficult tracks, including Grand Slalom.

The geographical location of the resort determines its two main drawbacks. The first is the distance from Sofia airport. However, only 86 km from Pamporovo is Plovdiv Airport, from where you can get to the resort by direct bus.

The second drawback is that sometimes winter snowfalls are replaced by showers, which will not please avid skiers. But, if you are not lucky with the weather, there is a chance to evaluate the balneotherapeutic possibilities of the resort.

In Pamporovo there are thermal springs with radon and sulfuric waters. There are good conditions for treatment, but you can just bask in the pools with warm water.

We hope winter Bulgaria will make you good impression and you will want to come back here in the summer. Our selection of other resorts in Bulgaria will help you prepare for the trip.
