The best bars in Prague. Breweries and beer gardens

Prague's beer gardens are as integral a part of tourism in the Czech capital as Gothic architecture, Charles Bridge and observation decks on the Prague hills.

This guide to Prague's pubs and restaurants covers the iconic tourist places with their own breweries, historical and simply soulful establishments where you can pleasantly sit with a glass of fresh beer. All listed pubs are marked on the map of Prague, the features of their menu and specialty drinks, addresses, and how to get there by transport are indicated.

Beer restaurants in Prague

Gastronomic tourism in Prague cannot even be imagined outside of beer culture: in famous restaurants, along with hearty Czech food, guests are certainly treated to one or two mugs of the foamy drink, and moreover, they often look for places to drink beer in Prague based on reviews.

A wonderful tourist attraction for all lovers of Czech beer and toy railways, which the Czechs are so partial to, is the beer restaurant “Vytopna” (Vytopna) on Wenceslas Square (the second restaurant is on Republic Square). Toy trains deliver foamy drinks to visitors, and there is a children's corner - a real rarity even for a beer restaurant.

“Literary” restaurants and pubs dedicated to the good soldier Švejk, and first of all the establishments “At the Chalice” and “Malostranska Pivnica”, are distinguished not only by their pleasant decor and allusions to Hasek’s beloved works by many, but also by a decent menu and selection of foamy drinks.

Actually, beer houses, where the first place is given to drinks, and only snacks are offered from food, are also common in Prague - both tourist and “folk” - uncountable beer houses, which can hardly be found in the top guidebooks. We will only mention the most iconic beer halls in Prague.

For example, in the beer hall “Hard Times” (Zlý Časy) you can order beer brought from 48 medium and small Czech breweries. Among such a variety and rare types of beer, the snack menu is relegated to the background, and you can only find it out on the spot.

In the "Brewer's Club" the walls are lined with bottles of beer - this is not only decoration, but also a working store. Draft varieties are in demand. The menu is not too varied, but quite filling for a beer hall - there is even boar's knee already cut into pieces.

Connoisseurs of specific Czech beer brands in Prague will be able to relax in branded restaurants and breweries, tasting original draft beer rather than bottled beer. For example, there are two Budweiser Budvar restaurants in the city (near the bus station and in Stare Mesto); eight establishments with the signature “Velkopopovice Kozel”, including the Kozlovna Lidicka beer garden in the Prague 5 Andel district and two restaurants in the center.

You will find more tourist, as well as purely local and soulful pubs in the list below.

Rating of the best bars in Prague (TOP 10)

Pilsner Urquell presented the TOP 10 best bars in Prague. Of course, the bars that go there serve this particular beer, but many have other varieties, and they are also fun, interesting and tasty.

9. U Hrocha (Thunovska 10, Prague 1). (“At the Hippopotamus”) Real Czech beer and snacks. No food. Czechs come here only for beer. The menu is only in Czech, as is the whole atmosphere. Be prepared for this.

10. Jelínkova Plzeňská Pivnice (Charvátova 1, Prague 1). This pub is very popular among Prague residents. So it won't be easy to find a place there. In addition to Pilsner Urquell, you can try Kozel on tap here. The place is very popular among Czechs, but tourists rarely go there. But, if you are not afraid, you can try delicious snacks - pickled cheese, tlačenku (pork jelly in Czech), steamed sausages, etc. The price of any of the snacks does not exceed 45 CZK.

The list of the best Prague bars for 2013 will be presented in November. The rating is based on the votes of visitors to restaurants and bars.

When going on a trip to such a beautiful city as Prague, we, of course, want not only to enjoy the sights but also to treat ourselves to delicious national cuisine, as well as world-famous local beer. This can be done in numerous restaurants and pubs, which are abundant here. Most of the famous establishments are concentrated in the central part of the city, which is most often visited by tourists. Today the topic of our story will be the best restaurants in Prague. We will find out which establishments are recommended for visiting, and also find out how much lunch in the Czech capital will cost on average.

Tavern "At the King of Brabant"

It should be noted that almost all restaurants in Prague offer guests well-prepared dishes and delicious beer. However, a number of them stand out not only for their exquisite menu, but also for their original interior, exciting show program and rich history. One of these establishments is the tavern “At the King of Brabant”. This establishment is one of the oldest taverns not only in Prague, but throughout the Czech Republic. It was founded back in 1375. The long history of this establishment is shrouded in a number of secrets and legends. So, in different times The world famous composer Mozart, the unforgettable Czech writer and the infamous executioner Mydlar loved to come here. In addition, among the guests of the tavern one could notice city alchemists and other interesting personalities.

Today, like other restaurants in Prague, it offers visitors to taste perfectly prepared dishes of the national cuisine of the Czech Republic, as well as delicious local beer. However, the highlight of the place is the medieval show, which takes place from 7 to 10 pm every day from Tuesday to Saturday. Having visited the tavern at this time, you will be transported back several centuries, watching the duels of pirates, the movements of charming dancers and the performance of fakirs. All this action takes place to ancient musical tunes. It must be said that, according to numerous reviews from tourists, this spectacle is truly magnificent. Once in Prague, be sure to stop by the medieval tavern.

Tavern "Pravek"

Some restaurants in Prague can be compared to a time machine, inviting us to travel back several centuries, or even millennia. One of them is an establishment called “Pravek”. Thanks to its surroundings in the form of stone chairs, rough-hewn tables and decor from cave paintings, tusks of ancient mammoths and skins of saber-toothed tigers, you will be transported to prehistoric times. The actors and waiters dressed as actors, walking with a funny gait, hooting and speaking in inarticulate phrases will help you to finally plunge into the era of the Flintstones. If you want an unforgettable experience, be sure to check out the prehistoric restaurant “Pravek”.

"Monastery Tavern"

It should be noted that Prague restaurants offering national cuisine at above-average prices are usually not very popular among local residents. After all, they can prepare the same food at home. However, an exception to this rule is a restaurant called the Monastery Tavern. You can always meet a lot of locals here, and finding a free table without prior reservation is almost impossible. This establishment is located on the territory of the country's oldest operating monastery. Interesting fact is that a few years after the founding of the monastery, and this happened back in 993, beer began to be brewed here. The foamy drink has been appreciated at all times. And today you have the opportunity to try it personally by ordering one of the types of Benedict beer. Deserves special attention local kitchen. Thus, in particular, the “Monastic Tavern” is famous for its baked pork knee, considered the best in the city, and bread prepared by the monks.

"Locomotive depot"

If you are interested in truly original Prague restaurants, the reviews of which are filled with delight, then be sure to pay attention to this establishment. The Locomotive Depot will certainly delight both adults and children. So, the waiters here do not serve drinks to guests. Instead, this responsibility is assigned to trains. Each table is connected to the bar by rails along which a locomotive pulls trailers with mugs and glasses. After the train arrives, you must pick up the brought drinks and put empty containers in their place. At the same time, fifteen locomotives belonging to different time periods are working in the restaurant. The power of the locomotives also deserves attention: for example, each of them is capable of carrying trailers with twelve mugs of an amber drink.

"Light head"

As a rule, almost all restaurants in Prague specialize in meat dishes. However, vegetarians should not despair in the Czech capital. A real outlet for them is a restaurant called “Light Head”. In addition to offering vegetarian dishes, unforgettable impression has a special spiritual atmosphere created by the picturesque interior, muffled melodic music and a fireplace with cozy crackling wood.

"Clouds"

This Prague restaurant has this name for a reason. It is located inside Zizkovskaya at an altitude of 66 meters. Both during the day and at night, it offers a magnificent view of the Czech capital. The restaurant's interior, designed in a modern style, goes well with the futuristic appearance the TV tower itself, which is more reminiscent of an alien. Therefore, if you want to admire the beauty of Prague from a bird's eye view and at the same time enjoy delicious dishes in a cozy and original atmosphere, be sure to visit the Oblaka restaurant.

Beer restaurants in Prague

Since the Czech Republic is famous throughout the world for its amber drink, there are countless varieties in its capital (locals call them pivnice). However, among this huge number, there are several pubs that are especially popular among tourists. We'll talk about them further.

Beer bar "U Fleku"

This establishment is one of the oldest in all of Prague. It was founded back in the 15th century. In this brewery you can treat yourself to an original foamy drink with caramel flavor, which is brewed according to a secret recipe, so you won’t be able to try it anywhere else. Not only the local amber drink deserves attention, but also the special atmosphere. Here you will probably hear folk songs not only in Czech, but also in German, English, Italian, Russian and other languages. The talented musicians of the pub "U Fleku" will easily determine by ear the language you speak and, approaching your table, will offer to perform some folk song. The only negative this establishment is quite high prices, which is explained by its enormous popularity among tourists.

Pivnitsa The Pub

This place can be called a real paradise for lovers of a foamy drink. Thus, each table in the bar is equipped with an autonomous beer dispensing system with four taps. Therefore, visitors no longer need to wait for a waiter, but can pour and drink themselves. This bar system became so popular that branches of the establishment were opened in many other cities of the Czech Republic and even in other countries. Interestingly, data about the beer consumed at each table is broadcast on a large screen. And if you come here with a cheerful group, then it’s quite possible to compete in “litreball” with participants from Romania, Germany or Austria.

Prague restaurants: prices

Of course, the cost of food and drinks in establishments in the Czech capital is a very important factor. In general, prices in Prague restaurants depend on how much the establishments are designed for tourists. So, if the main customers are locals, then the cost of the dishes will be lower.

As for average values, a hearty dinner with beer for one person in Prague will cost you 350-550 rubles. A mug of amber drink costs from 50 to 90 rubles. You can save a little by having lunch at one of the inexpensive cafes. In this case, the meal will cost you 180-210 rubles per person. Experienced travelers advise those wishing to save money to visit establishments where the main clients are local residents.

The Czech Republic is famous for its numerous establishments with delicious beer and inexpensive food. We will tell you about restaurants, cafes and bars that stand out from the rest with their unique atmosphere and unusual history.

Medieval tavern “At the King of Brabant” (Krčma U krále Brabantského)

One of the oldest Prague taverns, opened in 1375, is shrouded in many secrets and legends.

Rumor has it that city alchemists, the executioner Mydlar, the brilliant Mozart, the great Jaroslav Hasek and countless charlatans of all stripes loved to come here. Such a diverse audience created an atmosphere of real freedom, which can still be felt today. Visitors can enjoy traditional Czech cuisine and delicious beer. Well, the main feature of the tavern is the medieval show.

From Tuesday to Saturday from 19:00 to 22:00, the establishment takes its guests back hundreds of years - before their eyes, a duel of pirates takes place under ancient musical tunes, charming dancers perform, and fakirs command fire.

The medieval surroundings complement the interior of the tavern: antique furniture, skulls on the ceiling, candlesticks on the tables - everything is done so that the visitor forgets what year it is.

It’s also worth noting the inn’s staff: during the show, they transform into typical medieval rabble. In response to any request from a guest, the waitress can shout: “Give me my money first!”, or even simpler, refuse to return the change. If the client still insists on returning the money, she will bring it in a skull and hit it on the table with all her might. Such morals, nothing can be done.

We recommend trying: honey-baked pork ribs with spicy sauce (pečená vepřová žebírka na medu s pikantní omáčkou)

Address: Thunovská 198/15, PRAHA 1 - Malá Strana

Cost of the show program: 195 CZK (8 EUR)

Primitive restaurantPravěk

To find yourself in the Stone Age you don’t have to invent a time machine, just visit a restaurant in the center of Prague. Cave paintings, stone chairs, rough wooden tables, skins of killed saber-toothed tigers and mammoth tusks on the walls - all this makes the interior of the establishment truly original. The actors of the show program together with the waiters will help you feel like a contemporary of the Flintstones. Together they portray real savages - they hoot, snarl, walk with an awkward gait, beat drums and do much more. Let it be a surprise for your guests.

Let's give just a small example: try to order from a waiter in a loincloth, who answers all questions with incoherent sounds “u”, “u”, “u-u-u”. You can safely forget about cutlery during the show - you will have to eat with your hands. Stone Age, whatever one may say.

We recommend trying: potato soup with mushrooms in bread (Bramboračka s houbami v rozpečeném chlebu).

Address: There are three restaurants in Prague under the name Pravěk, but the original show takes place exclusively in the oldest of them at Sokolská 60, Prague 2

Cost and time of the show program: from 18:00 to 23:00 on weekdays, from 11:30 to 23:30 on weekends.

Old Bohemian restaurant "Monastic Tavern" (Klášterní šenk)

Usually Czechs are not very fond of restaurants with national cuisine, especially if their prices are higher than average - they can cook all the same food themselves at home.

However, this place is always full of locals. Finding a free table without prior reservation is akin to real luck. The success of the establishment is due to a number of factors, but the main one is the atmosphere of warmth, kindness and tranquility. This is because the restaurant is located on the territory of the active Břevnov Monastery, the oldest in the Czech Republic. It was founded back in 993 and since then has experienced many upheavals. During various wars, the monastery was completely destroyed several times, but was again restored by the hardworking monks of the Benedictine order. The motto of the order is: “Pray and work.”

Benedictines of the Břevnov Monastery

It is interesting that immediately after the founding of the monastery they began to brew beer in it. Břevnov brewery is the oldest in the Czech Republic and is famous for its brewing traditions. In the restaurant you can see this for yourself by ordering one of the types of the monastery Benedict variety. Not only the beer, but also the cuisine here is very good: everything is very tasty, from the bread that the monks themselves bake to the pork knee, without exaggeration, the best in the city.

We recommend trying: baked pork knee (Obpečený koleno vepře s divokýma višněma)

Address: Markétská 1/28, Prague 6

Beer pubThePUB

A paradise for all fans of the foamy drink. The concept of the establishment is simple, like everything ingenious: each table in it is equipped with a beer dispensing system with four taps. No more waiting for the waiter - pour and drink. The liters drunk are counted electronically and display the data on a touchscreen, which allows you to order drinks and dishes remotely.

The bar became so popular that it opened its branches in many Czech cities and even other countries.

Another interesting thing is that information is collected via the Internet about the amount of beer consumed in a specific establishment at each specific table and broadcast on a large screen. If you come with a friendly group, you can compete in international “literball” with “athletes” from Germany, Austria and Romania.

Must Try: Baked Spicy Chicken Wings with Homemade BBQ Sauce (PUB Wings)

Address: Veleslavínova 3, Prague 1

Website: http://www.thepub.cz/

Restaurant "Locomotive Depot" (Výtopna)

An original establishment that will delight children and adults. The duties of the waiters here do not include serving drinks; the trains do this instead. Each table has rails along which a locomotive pulls cars with mugs and glasses. After the train arrives, visitors need to pick up the ordered drinks and put empty containers in their place.

The restaurant simultaneously operates 15 realistic models of locomotives from different eras. Particularly impressive is their power (each baby is capable of carrying 12 mugs of beer) and speed (up to 20 km/h). The average cost of one model is about 800 euros.

There is truly a special energy here that is difficult to describe, but can be felt.

Cafe, bar and restaurantOBLACA

The restaurant, located in a recently renovated complex inside the Žižkov TV Tower, will take its visitors away from earthly problems to a height of 66 meters. At any time of the day, there is a magnificent view of the beautiful Prague from here. Modern style The restaurant fits perfectly with the futuristic appearance of the tower itself, more reminiscent of an alien rocket.

What makes the structure fantastic is the sculptures of babies crawling on it, clearly not like earthly children (the author of the work is the famous Czech artist David Černý). Dinner here can be a great idea for a date or a friendly meeting. In any case, it will remain in the memory for a long time. Note that in the tower there is a hotel consisting of only one room, the cost of one night is 1000 euros.
