Maps of GTA: San Andreas. Map of the game Grand Theft Auto V with secrets and a military base Recreation and sports

The GTA 5 map is one of the main advantages of the game, which was recognized as one of the best of all time, and this says a lot.

The wide, seamless world is filled with a huge amount interesting places. Hundreds of hours will have to be spent to fully study them, but the pleasure gained will be worth it.

You can learn more about such locations, as well as other thematic information from this article.

General form

The GTA 5 map rightfully deserves the title of “ideal”, given the setting and experience of the previous parts. It was not for nothing that the developers took a long time to create the fifth numbered part in the series. The game world turned out to be really rich. In the south of the mainland there is a huge city of Los Santos, which was created under inspiration from a real prototype in the form of Los Angeles. This is a real criminal center that has absorbed some parts of the metropolis, but has not become an exact copy.

General view of the GTA V map

The creators added many unique elements, which makes the settlement look quite fresh. The map in GTA 5 of the remaining parts is a poorly developed territory with a variety of natural landscapes. Along the edges there are beaches, in the middle there is a hilly and flat terrain with vegetation. Roads of various kinds cross locations length and breadth.

Various secrets

Random events often appear on the map in GTA 5, which adds great variety to the gameplay. Even when traveling on a mission or a regular walk, you can encounter an interesting mission that you want to complete. Typically, this list includes the robbery of ATMs, stores and cash-in-transit trucks, but more diverse events are also provided. This could be chasing a thief or helping a drunk girl. The bulk of them are concentrated in the center of Los Santos, in the northeast of the city, as well as just beyond populated area from the west side.

Robbery of a cash-in-transit vehicle

You can often encounter them in the central sandy part, where the lake is located on the GTA map, as well as on the ring road. Unique vehicles can also be found in the vast game world. Four points are concentrated on the sandy part of the lake location, which is marked yellow. Two towards the sea from the lake on the east side. One car can be found in the north west coast opposite small islands. In the same part, but already in the city, you can come across three unique types of equipment.

Other interests

In GTA 5, the map provides extensive exploration options. At first, players will be interested in finding new parts and simply traveling, but when it comes to a specific goal, it is better to use hints. For example, fans of transport stunts should know where the best places for jumping. Most of them are concentrated in the central and southeastern parts of the city. There are also several places near the lake on a sandy location and on the northern coast.

Tricks around the city by car

If a player wants to know where random encounters are located on the map in GTA 5, then just explore the center and northern part Los Santos. There are simply a huge number of them. Several can be found on the same side, but outside the city, as well as near the lake in the center of the map. These encounters allow you to receive unique quests from interesting characters. Often such missions have an unexpected ending, which can be considered an additional bonus. There are 58 such tasks in total, and to complete the game 100% you will need to complete at least twenty. For greater ease of navigation, you can download a GTA 5 map with random encounter locations.

Remaining secrets

In GTA 5, a map of submarine parts may be of interest only to those users who have already tried themselves in most activities and completed storyline. They are mainly concentrated in the southeastern part of Los Santos near the port, but to find them you will have to dive to the bottom. The second accumulation is in the water opposite the convex island part on the west coast, the rest are in the north and northeast. The map of hidden packages will be useful to those guys who are looking for interesting ways enrichment.

Map of submarine parts

They are hidden in the water along the entire contour of the island, some places are covered with the wreckage of a submarine. One package is located in the center of the lake. Finding places where you can skydive will be more fun. There are thirteen such points in total, and four of them are located in the central part of the river, which opens into the ocean from the western part of the lake. Two more locations in the city center, three locations in the northern part. The rest are scattered around the map. Fans of aerial stunts should live in the central, northern, and northwestern parts of the city. It is here that there are fifteen missions to perform a wide variety of pirouettes in the air.

Traces of alien presence

It is not possible to collect a spaceship in GTA 5 as a personal transport, but collecting UFO debris is provided for those who want to complete the game 100%. This activity can be considered one of the most difficult, because the particles are not different large sizes and hidden in various places. This could be the interior of an old car, the roof of a building, or the most inconspicuous nooks and crannies.

Map with spaceship debris

It will take a lot of time to collect them all, but this will be a good opportunity to distinguish yourself, because not too many players were able to find a spaceship in GTA 5. The map is extensive and should always be kept before your eyes. It’s difficult to even identify approximate guidelines here. Throughout the city of Los Santos they are located closer to the center, north and southeast. There are a dozen parts hidden outside the city in the northwestern part. On the eastern side of the lake it is about the same. The rest are evenly distributed throughout the entire territory of 108 square kilometers, which greatly complicates the task. To find all fifty you will have to spend many hours.

Military refuge

The military base in GTA 5 on the map is located on the west coast and clearly stands out from environment. This is because there are no more buildings in the area and the massive complex immediately becomes a target. You can also discover the object in the “Reconnaissance” mission if you choose the passage option called “Sea Adventure”. Other players should be aware that the entrance is located on the southeast side of the complex. If you fly up from the air, the player will begin to fire at artillery. The military base in GTA 5 is quite an interesting point, inside of which there is a huge amount of military transport.

Los Santos military base

For example, powerful flying vehicles like cargo plane Titan, P996 Lazer fighter and Cargobob helicopters, as well as Buzzard. Among the vehicles, noteworthy are the Crusader military jeep, the Barracks truck and the Rhino tank, known from all previous parts of the series. Even just riding them will bring unprecedented pleasure. When storming a base, the main thing is to be sufficiently prepared. The character must be pumped up, the supply of weapons is inexhaustible, but it is better to master some kind of helicopter and start shelling from the mountain. Nobody will simply give the equipment into the hands of the player.

This section contains maps of Los Santos and Blaine County, which will help you better navigate the world GTA V like when walking around a huge open world, and when passing the game. Maps, with a few exceptions, are shown in the highest possible resolution.
For ease of use, medium-resolution maps are collected into a traditional one.

A story about fans revealing secrets Grand Theft Auto 5, and how they did it.

On September 30th, Craig Ovens published an extensive article on eurogamer.net about fans who had been attempting to create a map of Los Santos and Blaine County long after the game was released. I present to your attention a translation of this article.

In July 2012, Rockstar released the following screenshot: For most of us, this image conveys just one clear fact. It says that in Grand Theft Auto V there are helicopters. At that time this was not an interesting fact. After all, Grand Theft Auto IV also had helicopters. We wanted to know about airships, fighter planes, all sorts of cool things. But for a limited group of the game's fans, this picture was the breakthrough they'd been waiting for, the missing piece of a hugely ambitious puzzle.

“From this screenshot we learned about almost the entire western part of the city,” says Thomas Rondeau, a geographer by training better known as Fido_le_muet on gtaforums.com. Rondo is a dedicated member of a team of GTA fanatics who have taken on the ultimate cartographic challenge. They set out to create a map of all of Los Santos, from the airport to the harbor, from the golden sands to the highest mountain peaks, before the game was even released.

“In the first trailer, we only saw Downtown and glimpses of Santa Monica and Venice,” Rondeau explains, referring to the real-life neighborhoods. Los Angeles, which Rockstar visually searched to create the corresponding areas of Los Santos. "But with this new [screenshot], we saw the whole western part cities. This makes the map what it is now."

Not surprisingly, cartography was one of the aspects that Rondo enjoyed most given his profession. “The basic idea that I find attractive,” explains Rondeau, “is to start with a blank slate and slowly, step by step, create something significant.”

And the cartographers began to work, slowly indeed. The first few versions of the map were very rough sketches, stitched together from scraps of city plans they could salvage from the first trailers. Rockstar rarely indulges fans with lavish marketing, so cartographers had to work with very little material: one aerial screenshot here, a three-second clip of a street corner there.

They looked closely at parts of the screenshots that most of us didn't even notice: sunlit or foggy backgrounds, streets flashed behind the characters' shoulders or helicopter blades. It was not an easy job, but their dedication paid off in spades. Even the very first rough sketch of Rondo's map turned out to be a move in the right direction: several passages with exact location streets drifting among the gaps, and even the rough outlines of Blaine County are nevertheless discernible. This is a map that will be further refined with each stage, as more enthusiasts pay attention and donate their time, and more geographical details are available for analysis in the form of screenshots.

Thomas Rondo's first attempt to map Los Santos, around January 2012.

So how did they do it? How did they, with the help of these out-of-context scraps of information about Los Santos, create an accurate plan - a surprisingly accurate plan, as it later turned out - of the finished city? Yes, Rockstar North is, of course, very secretive, but the cartographers had one fairly serious source of information in their hands, on which it was impossible to impose restrictions - Los Angeles.

Los Santos is Los Angeles. It's not just inspired by the latter. This is the real Los Angeles, transformed and twisted by the hands of Rockstar North. While it's not perfectly accurate, parts of the city look nearly identical, and it's probably best viewed as an excerpt of Los Angeles' highlights. All the tourist attractions are there, but like a Hollywood plastic surgeon, Rockstar trims away the excess fat: residential areas, little-known landmarks, ugly city outskirts. Do this, then mix up the layout of what's left before each street, storefront, and advertising poster passes through the filter of the brand's signature caricature, and what will become Los Santos begins to emerge.

The real Los Angeles gave map makers an idea of where the main geographical features how the city's districts should be connected to each other. This was much more useful than the comparison to Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, which bears no more similarities to its modern incarnation than GTA III's Liberty City. However, even though fans had a rough idea of what their final map would look like, they still had to take each screenshot and determine what part of the city it depicted. It doesn't seem like this is enough information to continue. They need something concrete, some undeniable reference points that connect the real world with Rockstar's creation.

Attractions. Drive around Los Santos and you'll pass by dozens of notable features of Los Angeles, served up with GTA sauce: the Vinewood sign is the most obvious of them, but obviously that's all it's notable for us. Next on our list are Downtown skyscrapers.

"We identified buildings based on where they were located in real life" Rondeau explains. "We identified obvious buildings like the US Bank Tower, California Plaza, The Westin Bonaventure [and] started placing those buildings in relation to each other. At the very beginning we had several maps from different authors. We borrowed ideas from each other."

Look again at the image at the beginning of this article. It's a helicopter hovering over a city, definitely inspired by Los Angeles, but doesn't really clarify anything else, right? And here’s what this screenshot looked like in the eyes of cartographers:
And that's before they've even started scouring Google Streetview for less clear buildings.

“It's like a treasure hunt,” says forum member MrThingus, who has discovered and located locations including the Powell Library and the Beverley Hills Peninsula Hotel. “You peer at the screenshot, carefully scour that particular area to find something that can be marked on a hand-made map. Finding landmarks before the game is even released gives the same sense of fun and excitement that comes from knowing that in just a few months or weeks you will be able to drive around a virtual Los Angeles with a level of detail that few games made before have been able to achieve."

This excitement, the excitement of anticipation and anticipation, permeates all the efforts of cartographers. They were Rockstar North's biggest fans, so eager to experience the world they knew was destined for them that they tried to bring it to life early.

"I think the main motivation for a lot of us was that it was highly anticipated," says cartographer Robert, who goes by lxr on the forums. "You won't be able to play it, as we thought, for at least another half a year. It turned out to be even longer. How would you survive this wait? I think a lot of people did it because it was the only way to visit this map, you know? "

The mapmakers' need to visit Los Santos as quickly as possible reflects the pure, amazing power of the worlds Rockstar creates. Beneath the surface of their sharp, cartoonish satire, Los Santos and Liberty City somehow combine real-life inspirations with the hyperreal, almost mythical New York and Los Angeles we know from cinema. It may not be New York or LA, but it evokes a strong sense of these cities, more so than many other games that attempt to more faithfully replicate any cities.

Spending time in Liberty City inspired many to take up cartography, as mapmaker Koeklin recalls, who began finding landmarks in GTA 4.

"I didn't know much about New York"," he says, "I knew Liberty City was inspired by this city, but I had no idea how." One day, while Koeklin was replaying The Snow Storm, a mid-game mission in which Niko Bellic fights his way through the gutted innards of a hospital to recover a stolen bag with cocaine, and found himself thinking about the strangeness of the surroundings. What was an abandoned hospital doing so close to the sparkling lights of Manhattan, okay, let alone Algonquin?

"I thought it was strange that there was a huge, ruined building on Colony Island," he says, "and I wondered if there really was a place like it in New York. I looked it up on Google Maps and had no trouble finding it. It's a smallpox hospital on Roosevelt Island.

"After that, I tried checking out a lot of different places and was surprised to find that they were also in New York. I could already see the city like before, I felt like I had rediscovered this game. So I naturally identified buildings in Los Santos since the first GTA 5 trailer."

The mapmakers' love for these cities is a compelling refutation of any argument that seeks to limit the role of Grand Theft Auto to the mayhem that occurs in them. "Killing people, burning [them], getting crushed by car wheels have never been things I'm interested in in GTA," Koeklin concludes, "I have a whole city that I can walk around freely. I prefer to play tourist."

The close relationship between Los Santos and Los Angeles must have been a handy tool for those mapping the city, but what about the countryside? These cartographers have far fewer real-world references to use, with Rockstar starting to depict things a little less authentically to real life the further they get from the city limits. The countryside in GTA V, the shape it took, and its location relative to Los Santos remained a big question mark for the map project for a relatively long time.

“When I became involved a year ago,” explains Robert, “we had the city already developed, but the countryside was still a big mystery.” At that time, no one expected that the Alamo Sea, which is based on the Salton Sea, would be located north of Vinewood. We thought like: “Why on earth would they do that? In real life, it’s in the Southwest [USA - translator’s note (or mistake, the lake is southeast of Los Angeles)], it can’t be!”

Before that fact was established, cartographers, however, went through countless versions. Is the map an island? Or is it several islands? Is Los Santos surrounded by an endless automatically generated desert, or by invisible walls? And just how vast can rural areas be, what form can they take, how will it actually be?

"There was no idea about the size," says Robert. "It was damn hard to figure out what you're seeing [in the screenshot]: How big is it? How many kilometers can it be? Does it end there?"

And then the mapmakers realized that Rockstar had given them all the clues they needed.

Quite early in the promotional campaign, Rockstar released the following screenshot, which, thanks to the famous Vinewood sign, could easily be located. But more importantly, at the same time, this screenshot gives us a tantalizing glimpse of rural development outside the city. "This was the first screenshot we had that connected the city to what lay beyond it." - Robert remembers.
On its own, however, the screenshot was useless. The perspective and distance made it almost impossible to judge anything, and there was no way to tell how the bleak countryside behind lay in relation to anything that had already been shown. Those of us who have played the game since then must have realized that the Alamo Sea can look stretched with long distance, but at the time the contents of this misty shadow were the subject of fierce debate. The picture was analyzed, discussed over and over again, and then left alone.

Until then, Robert pays close attention to the next screenshot, until this one was released in the same series of screenshots...
...and then things started to make sense.

“If you look at the screenshot of the helicopter you can see the fog in the background,” explains Robert, “which I saw after I looked at it enough for a long time, so if you look at the mountain range in the farthest shot, with three or four ridges, and then look at the screenshot with Trevor, you will notice that both there is a mountain in the background. And I found four or five distinctive features among those ledges that made a perfect match.

It's hard to see because the perspective is different. But once you see that these two images actually share some very unique features, you'll realize that what you see in the Vinewood helicopter screenshot is nothing less than the Alamo Sea.

The methods that were used to construct a map of rural areas required quite painstaking work. The map makers searched the screenshots for distinctive geographic features, and then tried to find the same ones in other screenshots, gradually building their vision of the San Andreas plan by attaching the screenshots one by one in a chain. It's not as simple as it sounds.

"I really learned a lot about perspective this year by mapping Los Santos," Robert says, laughing. "Perspective is a terrible bastard. The map is just huge and the closer you are to the ground, the bigger it is. So all those screenshots used very different optics. Sometimes things seem too distant, and in other screenshots taken at a different focal length they look very close to each other."

“You'll learn about perspective,” he continues, “how you create something. You'll learn about photogrammetry, which is basically the science of taking a photograph of something and then figuring out the three-dimensional parameters of that object. How do you determine what it is? straight line? People, myself included, get it wrong all the time."

It doesn't help that Rockstar manipulates its screenshots from time to time, and I'm not just talking about the strangely altered contrast moment:

"You can't navigate by the sun!" - Robert laughs.

"A lot of our analysis was based on the direction of the sun," explains Rondeau, "but we found that the sun wasn't always where it should be. In some screenshots, the sun was directly north."

When Rockstar wasn't playing god to get the coverage they wanted in their screenshots, the studio nevertheless had an infuriating habit of constantly improving their creation, forcing mapmakers to tweak their maps in response. And, of course, the speculative designs of cartographers constantly ran into many variants of insubordination natural geography San Andreas to the laws of the real world.

"There was a case where two buildings, I think, were moved over time," says Robert. "We realized that not much had changed on the map. But we still had to be careful in our conclusions. At the Alamo Sea nothing flows in. We expected that there would be one - but it turned out there is not one. There is a reservoir up there, but there had to be mountains around it for it to be a full-fledged reservoir, right? No, you need to use logic, but sometimes it’s game logic, " he explained.

However, the compilers nailed this map, as Rondo's GIF showing the evolution of their efforts certainly shows.

They were so close, in fact, that when the official map eventually leaked earlier this year, many players didn't believe the revelation: real map was suspiciously close to the fan-made one they had seen a few weeks earlier.

"It wasn't surprising, we were sure we were close," says Robert with well-deserved immodesty, "it was obvious we had done it. Because there was a trailer showing the heist, which actually showed parts of the map. More before anything leaks online."

The mapmakers aren't done yet. Even now, they are combing the game world (and Google Streetview) to find every last piece of architecture and find its real source. It's no surprise that the mapping project has irrevocably changed the way its participants interact with the game, since they likely know their way through the intricacies of San Andreas as well as its creators.

Robert froze when I asked what it was like to finally set foot in Los Santos and the surrounding countryside. And he told.

"Fuck... it's... really weird to actually be able to do that... because, you know, because there were so many places on the map where I was like, 'oh, I wish I could turn the camera to ten degrees in that screenshot"... and suddenly being able to just go there... it's amazing. It's really amazing. Being able to drive around this map is just fantastic. It's exciting... The first thing I did in the game was get a car and drove around the map, very slowly." - Robert explained.

He wanted to see how everything fit together, the way he knew it should be, the way he and all the other map makers had discovered. But he also had a specific destination in mind.

“I knew about the railroad bridge,” Robert says calmly, “we didn’t have a picture of it, we just saw both ends of it, where the highway and the railroad tracks were on opposite sides of each other. It was obvious that there had to be a bridge there... It was really fun to see what he really looked like. Nobody knew what he looked like, but I knew he was there."

For most of us, stepping out onto the sun-kissed streets of Los Santos last week was the beginning of an adventure: the beginning of an endless exploration. But what does it mean for map makers? - This was the end of their long journey home.

The attempt to create a map of Los Santos was made possible thanks to the active cooperation of many people to whom I want to address. Thank you, GifBrah, millionsofdeadcops, SonofUgly, J24D Smaaske, UrinalCake123. jackass2009, VickeX, sabbathfan, kendoyanar, GTAlove, JOSEPH X, BoolCaX, , darkjounin, Vegetarian Piranha, boxmonster, Death2Drugs, jbte, Choco Taco, GTADKNUT, lxr, OUPS, GTAKiwi, zombie elvis, Angeleno, vLx, omawnakw and Wayne Kerr and many others for a wonderful story. A rocket launcher on the roof of a building. Use a helicopter or jetpack to pick it up. Extreme sports enthusiasts can skydive from the tallest skyscraper in the city and get here too. True, what to do with the rocket launcher on the roof is another question (CJ will not survive a fall from such a height).

Another way was suggested by our reader: take a fast motorcycle, preferably an NRG-500. Climb onto the main skyscraper and then jump onto the adjacent building to the north. Then turn east and jump to the next skyscraper. Its roof is quite narrow: try to slow down slightly, but do not change the direction of movement - the motorcycle itself will fall onto the roof of the third building, where the RPG lies.
