Hayes name comes from. RI1FJ Hayes Island Franz Josef Land

The awareness of your own elegance gives you a sense of self-confidence. It is important for you to be “well dressed”, fit, solid. Sometimes your appearance can serve as a kind of shield for you, allowing you to fence yourself off from people with whom you this moment for some reason it is undesirable for you. At the same time, your appearance, sometimes quite colorful, but always correct, disposes to you, arouses sympathy.

Hayes name compatibility, manifestation in love

Hayes, marriage for you symbolizes the beginning of the ascetic path, and your partner must be ready for the fact that every day he will receive the “moon from the sky”. At first glance, this is great, but there is a small problem: you certainly need the same "moon" in response, since the adequacy of the reaction, gratitude and admiration are necessary for you for peace of mind. The slightest doubt that you are selflessly loved and highly valued demoralizes you, and then carefully built well-being can collapse overnight.

Motivation

Your heart is full of love and compassion for those around you. At the heart of spiritual aspirations is the desire to protect everyone for whom you can do this from trouble. Even to the detriment of their own interests. To do good and not ask for a reward for it is your choice in any situation.

At first glance, this is the life of a saint. But not everyone is pleased with the constant guardianship and obsessive manifestation of participation. Even the closest people can get tired of everyday care. Moreover, to suffer, because by relieving them of the need to do at least something on their own, you deprive them of the opportunity to develop, turning them into “plankton”.

So, sooner or later you will surely hear a reproach. And your confidence that self-sacrifice is really capable of bringing the fruits you expected will be dealt a severe blow. Then instead of satisfaction you will get disappointment.

Therefore, the desire to nurture and protect should be limited to reasonable limits. Remember this, and your peace of mind will be preserved.

Hayes - the island of cosmic mystery!

Hayes Island is located far beyond the Arctic Circle and is considered the most extreme point on the territory of Russia. This unusual place, shrouded in snow and ice, was discovered in 1901 by the Baldwin-Ziegler expedition. But it is named after the American polar explorer A. Hayes.

Stars in the Aurora, or Hayes Weather Forecast

50 years after the discovery, a huge observatory was built on the island, the purpose of which was not only to observe the stars, but also to launch meteorological rockets. During the existence of this object, meteorologists have made almost 2 thousand successful launches. The study of the sky and weather forecasting did not end here, and over time, scientists began to explore ocean depths and seismic activity on earth. Also, the territory of the island is convenient for observing the polar lights. In the 90s, the enterprise was abandoned, and they began to restore it only in 2004.

Where life was in full swing and there was civilization

On the land of Franz Josef, as the island is called differently, it is not deserted, but it cannot boast of a large population either. Basically, here, near the observatory, only scientists live. Settlement - modest wooden houses that surrounded the round freshwater lake Cosmic. This name did not come about by chance. It is believed that the reservoir acquired such an almost ideal geometric shape as a result of a meteorite fall. Given that the water in the lake is fresh, they even ran a water pipe from it. On the territory of the settlement there is a laboratory, a library and even a post office. This is the northernmost post office in the world.

Harsh Arctic climate

The permafrost of Hayes Island shows up in endless expanses of snow. average temperature here is -12 degrees. Polar nights last 125 days, while polar days - 140. Summer takes no more than 4 weeks, during this period the air warms up to zero. As many polar scientists say, in this place even the dirt is clean. Due to the low temperature on Franz Josef Land, there are no pathogenic bacteria. By pure chance, scientists discovered a pattern: dogs that were born in this place, upon arrival on the continent, died a week later. They simply did not develop immunity against infections that are not on Hayes.

In addition to dogs, polar bears are often found casually walking on the island. They rarely interact with humans, but are sometimes overly aggressive when hungry. Among marine mammals there are seals, bearded seals, harp seals, walruses. Birds also love these lands, as they are not prevented from nesting here. Often you can see a white gull, burgomaster. Surprisingly, rarely, but there are also plants such as the polar poppy, saxifrage, buttercups. Highest point- ice dome of Hydrographs. Its height is 242 m.

Russian-French science

In direct proximity to Hayes is an island belonging to the French. Scientists from both lands joined forces and began in 1967 to study the influence of the Sun and other cosmic phenomena on atmospheric processes. The meteorological rocket MP-12 was used for the experiments. All tests and scientific work were a great success due to modern equipment. During the heyday of this cooperation, an increasing number of researchers came to Franz Josef Land with their families. One of these expeditions failed to reach the island. The twin-engine IL-14 lost control and landed with its nose directly on the ground. This tragedy is reminiscent of the aircraft itself, which has been preserved almost in its original form.

Silent population

Today, only four people live on Hayes. The correspondent told national geographic Russia, Andrey Kamenev. He visited there in 2012. Meteorologists said that there were five of them, but with one of the participants research work, Mikhail Eremkin, a tragedy happened. Not following the safety rules, he went outside the house alone, after which he was attacked by a polar bear. Former colleagues led the journalist along the path along which the deceased walked. Today it is a kind of attraction.

It's interesting that " local residents” can easily be called silent, but this is not due to the problems of the speech-motor apparatus. They just don't talk to each other. According to their own separate stories, the correspondent found out that they also celebrate holidays separately. Such an atmosphere, in their opinion, favorably affects research, since there is no need to be distracted by extraneous factors. Unlike Hayes, whole families live on the neighboring islands of the archipelago and even give birth to children. Children are on individual training, and then relatives send them to the mainland.

Franz Josef Land only in last years starts to recover after startup. More and more expeditions are sent here to see the most unusual natural phenomena and inhale the frosty and incredibly fresh air.

One of the islands in Franz Josef Land is the small island of Heiss. It is named after the American polar explorer Isaac Hayes. Discovered by the Baldwin-Ziegler expedition in 1901. It is located at the eightieth degree of northern latitude, in the most severe conditions of the Northern Hemisphere.

The highest point of Hayes Island is the Ice Dome of the Hydrographers, located at an altitude of 242 meters. largest lake islands - Space. The climate here is not much different from other parts of Franz Josef Land. The air temperature usually does not exceed 0 degrees. June is the warmest month and the coldest is March. The average temperature for the year is -12.7 degrees Celsius. Strong northeast and southeast winds prevail at a speed of 5-7 m/s. Summers are cloudy and cold.

Since 1957, the Krenkel Observatory has been operating on Hayes Island. From November 1957 to December 1990, 1950 launches of M-100 meteorological rockets were made, the lift height was 200 m. The northernmost post office in Russia with the address "Arkhangelsk 163100" is also located on Hayes Island.

The Arkhangelsk region is famous for its numerous lakes. There are many of them in the Primorsky Territory, which includes many islands in the cold waters. northern seas. Between Barents Sea and the Arctic Ocean is the archipelago of Franz Josef Land. A sufficient number of island units, both large and smaller, belong to it. Some of them are so small that they do not even have their own name, just as the lakes scattered over the surface of the islands remain nameless. But the largest reservoirs still got their own names, such as the Cosmic Lake.

The lake is located on Hayes Island, at its extreme northeastern point, not far from Observatory Cape. Most of the area of the island is covered with ice. Settlements there is no. This area is interesting only from the point of view of polar research, so there are some premises suitable for temporary residence of visiting scientists.

Peculiarities

The cosmic lake is relatively small. Its length is 0.35 kilometers, and it is only 0.3 kilometers wide. The surface area of the water mirror is 0.105 square kilometers. Due to almost the same length and width, the reservoir has an almost perfectly rounded shape, slightly elongated into an oval. The lake owes its outline features to a meteorite that fell here many years ago, in the pit of which water accumulated. According to the degree of mineralization, the lake is fresh. The water in it never completely freezes to the bottom, regardless of the temperature. This is because there are several sources of warm water closer to the bottom.

The cosmic lake is located at an altitude of 6 meters above sea level. The lake is endorheic, that is, neither rivers nor streams flow from it. In the same way, not a single river flows into the lake. The reservoir is located quite close to the sea, only 100-150 meters. On this stretch of land is the Krenkel Observatory. Around the lake, on the shores, wooden houses were built, which are temporary dwellings for polar explorers. A pipeline was laid to them directly from the lake, since the water there is fresh, clean and quite suitable for drinking. In addition to residential buildings, there is also a research laboratory, a library and a post office, which is the northernmost in the country and has an index of 163100.

The Space Lake got its name due to the events that took place on this territory on October 22, 1957. It was on this memorable day that the first launch of meteorological rockets into space in the history of the USSR took place.

How to get there

The island is difficult to visit. Getting here on your own is extremely difficult. It is possible to reach the destination only as part of a research expedition. It uses air transport, as well as water transport.

In the summer of 1957, the observatory was transferred from Tikhaya Bay (Hooker Island) to Heis Island due to the unrepresentativeness of meteorological observations. (Latitude - 80. 37" north, longitude - 58. 03" eastern).

The Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute (AARI, St. Petersburg) built a new scientific polar observatory "Druzhnaya" on Heis Island.

On October 22, 1957, the first launch of meteorological rockets was carried out here. In December of the same year, registration of all components of the Earth's electromagnetic field began. Aerological and ozonometric observations began in January 1958.

In 1965, the Druzhnaya GMO from the AARI was transferred to the Dixon Radiometeorological Center (RMC) of the Office for the Study of the Arctic and Antarctic.

The only geophysical observatory in Russia in the area of the geomagnetic polar cap was located on Heiss Island.

In 1972, "Druzhnaya" was renamed the Observatory. E.T. Krenkel, worked until 2001 and was mothballed in connection with the fire that occurred on September 26 in an office building.

In June 2004, a site was determined for the construction of a new service and residential complex of the station named after. Krenkel, restored in this year.

Climate on Heiss Island is not much different from other areas of the FJL archipelago. The air temperature also practically does not cross zero degrees on the island. The warmest month is July, with an average monthly air temperature of +0.2 C; the coldest is March with a temperature of -24.4 C. The average annual air temperature is -12.7 C, relative humidity is 88%. During the year, 304 mm of precipitation falls. Winds of northeast and southeast directions are observed at a speed of 5-7 m/sec. Summers are cloudy and cold.

Physical and geographical description

Hayes Island was discovered in 1901 by the Baldwin-Ziegler expedition and named after the famous American explorer of Greenland and the Canadian North, Isaac Hayes (1832-1881).

The island is located in the central part of the Franz Josef Land archipelago in the Arctic Ocean. From the north and northeast, the island is washed by the waters of the Yermak Strait, from the south. Strait of Marcoma, and from the east. Australian Strait. Behind them, to the north, 6 km, is Salisbury Island, to the northeast, 10 km. Wiener Island, southeast 8 km. Komsomolsky Islands, and to the south 6 km. Gall Island.

Hayes Island is small, about 10x15 km.

Its relief is slightly hilly, with steep and deep banks, with the exception of the southern ones, which are more gentle.

OGMS is located in the northeastern part of the island, on the protruding Observatorsky Cape, near a large (300x350 m) ice-free to the bottom freshwater lake. With the launch of the first meteorological rockets Lake got the name space. The nearest small (1x2.5 km) Fersman Island is located 1.5 km west of the cape.

The bridge between the lake and the coastline, on which the observatory village is located, has a width in different places from 150 to 300 m.

5 km west of the observatory there is an ice dome (locally called "Hydrographer's Dome") 242 m above sea level. Between them, from southeast to northwest, stretches a ridge of basalt rocks up to 10 m high above the surrounding area. Near the GMO, the relief is slightly dissected, and to the west it is flat. To the south and southwest it has a gently undulating character.

The soils are frozen with permafrost. The active layer is no more than 30 cm.

The vegetation of the island is located in spots, mainly on the southern slopes of the hills, in the form of mosses and lichens. Occasionally there are polar poppies.

There are no settlements on the island.
