Climbing walls and rope parks in Crimea

All-Russian and international rock climbing competitions in Crimea have been held since time immemorial, probably since the beginning of the 20th century. At first there was a general concept of mountaineering, but then rock climbing became a more spectacular, technical and dynamic form of extreme sport.

In Crimea, mountaineering in its classic form with eternal ice and the rarefied air of the highlands is not possible due to not very high mountains. Most of the rock cliffs face south, the average annual temperature of the monoliths mountain ranges from +10 degrees near Simferopol, Belogorsk and Bakhchisaray to +14 on the rocks of the South Coast. But during the day, from the sun’s rays, rocks warm up significantly more precisely in autumn, winter and spring from the low rays of the Sun. Already in February you can sunbathe on the rocky chaos; near the beaches such places are called “frying pans” - they are protected from the wind, and are open only to warm sea, which also gives reflected warm light.

Strictly speaking, even the Main Ridge Crimean mountains- these are only raised hilly plains. The destructive activity of water, wind, frost along tectonic cracks has decorated these plains with picturesque rocks, gorges, cliffs and natural sculptures that are tempting for extreme sports enthusiasts.

The Crimean Mountains (and in the very inner city conditions of Simferopol and Bakhchisarai, where you can walk from the city center in 5-10 minutes) are ideal for rock climbing - amateur and sport. The opportunities to expand and diversify loads, develop new techniques and test new equipment are simply endless. On May holidays and in the fall, Moscow rock climbing championships are usually held on the rocks near the village of Foros. Famous climbing walls are equipped taking into account international requirements and with the participation of world stars, for example, French climbers. This Nikitskaya Cleft near Yalta, Mount Sokol near Sudak, Petrovsky rocks near Simferopol, rocks above the Red Cave. They are good for their versatility - both children and recognized masters train here.

The length and technical difficulty of the rock routes - from the first to the highest, sixth category of difficulty - are not inferior to many climbing routes in the mountains of Western Europe. The natural features of Crimea are such that ascents can be made at any time of the year: in winter - to the Angara wall of Chatyr-Dag, in summer - to the rocks Grand Canyon, and in spring and spring - to conquer rocks South Bank. Nikitskaya Cleft is a legendary climbing wall and the location for filming many adventure films.

A climber, especially in Crimea, fights for his best technique, and not for survival in a terrible natural environment. Crimean nature is still gentle, and the Crimean rocks are a kind of kindergarten for climbers. Therefore, not only and not so much adult competitions are held, but a lot of children’s and youth competitions, competitions for veterans and a lot of training camps and events. Entire towns and rock parks have been created, where there are very reasonable conditions for tent life and maximum rock pleasures for study and competitions.

Rope parks on trees fashionable active entertainment for children and adults. They work in Alushta ( all year round), Old Crimea (warm season), Sevastopol. Individual elements- climbing walls and inflatable pyramids, trolley descents, bungee jumps and other alpine systems appear during the holiday season near beaches, coastal cliffs and grottoes, in seaside parks, on embankments and even in the sea on towers and floating islands. Rock climbers and mountaineers of the Crimean Mountain Club, Sevastopol, have equipped many rock trails, adventure parks on natural rocks in the vicinity of his city and Bakhchisarai. The Crimean Mountain Club holds competitions and master classes in the equipped camping park Kush-kaya in the Batiliman tract (Sevastopol) near Laspi Bay of the Black Sea.

The most famous now in Russian Federation, thanks to a huge number of photographs and videos, this is a new suspended complex on the Ai-Petri Prongs. At an altitude of 1200 meters above sea level, 45-meter suspension bridges. The two bridges are equipped with special steel cables to withstand the load with a tenfold safety margin. Climbing equipment is used to cross bridges. Here, as well as in many places in Crimea, there is a troll - a steeply inclined crossing (in common parlance "bungee").

In Sevastopol, Alupka and other cities there are halls for bouldering - technical rock climbing at heights of up to 7 meters with very complex and interesting surfaces. It is fashionable to hold extreme birthday parties for children and youth in bouldering gyms. Bouldering centers operate in Simferopol, EX-VELO club, and in Yalta. The Yalta Alpclub also develops bouldering on the natural rocks of Hasta-bash in Miskhor, in Simeiz, in the Nikitskaya Cleft, in the Alupka palace and park complex.

The rocks of the Grand Canyon of Crimea (Sokolinoye) are a “white spot” on the climbing map of Crimea: there is only one route laid out here, but the opportunities for rock climbing are large, and the rough surface of the steep cliffs is of particular interest to climbers for laying free climbing routes. The western outskirts of Yalta are dominated by the steep outcast mountain Krestovaya (Stavri-kaya), famous among climbers all over the world. Climber Mikhail Khergiani, the “tiger of the rocks,” climbed a 90-meter steep cliff in 5 minutes. 5 sec.

Under the guidance of instructors from the Crimean Control and Rescue Service, the Thalassa company, the Gavan tourist and recreation complex (Tarkhankut), and the Sudak travel and excursion bureau, anyone can measure their strength against the wall and fully feel like a “spider-man”.
