The east coast and the most inaccessible beach of Koh Chang is Long Beach. The Best Beaches of Koh Chang - description, entertainment, video History of Long Beach Koh Chang

Long Beach (from the English "long" - long) has the original Thai name Phra Ae Beach and is considered the longest beach on Koh Lanta, as well as the best. Based on what I personally saw on Koh Lanta, riding along the beaches, then yes - and really the best on the island.

Although for a sophisticated person - just ordinary beaches, in the usual sense. Phra Ae Beach stretches for almost 3 km, and you will meet it second in a row if you drive from the bridge between Lanta Yai and Lanta Noi. During my visit to Koh Lanta, I lived on this beach in a hotel, so Long Beach was my main beach.

For you to understand, I’ll clarify: most of the beaches and areas on Lanta are a road along the coast and villages opposite large beaches. All the space between the road and the sea is occupied by buildings: hotels, shops, resorts, and everything else. In short, to get to the beach, you need to go either along the alleys or through the territory of the hotel, which allows it.

I went to many places and, in principle, did not see such a number of prohibitions and “private” signs as, for example, on Koh Samui. You can walk almost everywhere here. Specifically, on Long Beach, I liked the passage around the middle the most, there is a good asphalt road that ends with a large parking lot.

Around the parking lot there is a whole park with casuarinas, sala and toilets - it is somewhat reminiscent of the territory national park and everything looks very luxurious. I think this is the most the best place for access to the sea, the most convenient on Long Beach. I saw Thais with their families come here and have picnics under huge casuarinas.

And it also seemed to me that the central part of the beach was the least crowded, although in general, on all the beaches of Lanta, thank God, there are not as many people as on the beaches of Phuket. After I drove all the beaches of Koh Lanta, I had this opinion about Long Beach: best beach on Koh Lanta.

Entry into the water, depth and waves

If you face the sea, then the leftmost piece of the beach - there are a lot of stones, and this place seems to be suitable for swimming, but personally it seems to me that it is more suitable for snorkeling. Here I met many people who are engaged in it - they swim with masks.

The depth here, to put it mildly, is not very shallow, to move 10-15 meters from the shore and still not be up to the neck. On the same Klong Dao, the coast is a flat surface with a slight slope, but on Long Beach everything is quite noticeable, and when the water goes down to 10 meters at low tide, the beach still remains suitable for swimming. In short, in my opinion - it is better than the neighboring Khlong Dao.

Somewhere in the middle of Long Beach, and towards the right side it gets deeper. After about 10 meters, the depth comes up to the neck, and it grows relatively smoothly. In general, on Long Beach, it turns out that the right side is slightly deeper than the left.

It is important to note that a decent-sized river flows into the left side of Long Beach on Lanta. Of course, it looks clean, but knowing that Thais like to pour into rivers there, I definitely wouldn’t swim nearby, and would move much to the left of the river, or closer to the central part.

At low tide, the beach remains more or less swimmable. From the shore it is clearly seen that it is deeper than Klong Dao; the bottom on Long Beach goes down much steeper.

Sun beds and shade

Throughout Long Beach there are trees: casuarina and palm trees. Tall, old, strong, give a lot of shade and you will not have problems with this at least until lunch, when the sun rises from the east side to the zenith.

Then the usual hell begins for all the beaches located on west coast- the sun shines in your face and you can hide from it either in the forest, or, alternatively, in cafes that stand along the coast, private or owned by resorts. There, for a couple of drinks from a local bar, you are given the right to use a private area and sun loungers.

Infrastructure

Infrastructure is mainly developed along the main road. It is full of cafes, massages, laundries, hotels, bars, and so on. On that part of Long Beach, which is closer to Klong Dao, everything is denser there, and the farther from Klong Dao, the buildings are freer.

If you decide to live in Long Beach during your vacation, and all you need to be completely happy is the beach and beach holiday, then you don’t have to fool around with renting a bike - everything is enough within walking distance.

The hotels have everything you need, eat in cafes, ride tuk-tuks. By the way, local tuk-tuks are motorbikes with sidecars. Well, if you decide to ride, then of course you need to rent a scooter. But to be honest, the roads here are so-so.

Houses and hotels on the beach

Territory and geographical features The area behind Long Beach has opened up space for developers, so Long Beach has all kinds of accommodation. From bad guesthouses to high-rated hotels. There are a lot of hotels on the first line, where you can stay both in an expensive bungalow overlooking the sea, and in a thatched hut with the same view.

Hotels were also built across the road, where they are a little cheaper in price, but given that the distance between the road and the coast is ridiculous, then wherever you live on Long Beach, the sea will always be within walking distance. Below I propose to look at a selection of hotels that I ordered for myself when preparing for a trip:

Be sure (and I insist) to check for discounts or special offers on an excellent service. It will quickly and easily show you discounts in all existing booking systems. In the same Asia, for example, there are a lot of offers on Agoda.com, which are much more interesting than exactly the same hotels on Booking.com.

How to find the beach

Long Beach is located just after Klong Dao, if you drive along the same road from the bridge. The landmark of the beginning of Long Beach can be considered the beautiful gate of the Lanta Resort Hotel, which you will see about three kilometers after the T-junction.

Long Beach on the island of Koh Chang in Thailand is located near the southeastern cape and is ideal for those tourists who want to enjoy quiet rest without huge companies of compatriots in the neighborhood.

Long Beach on Koh Chang

In fact, Long Beach on Koh Chang is as long as its name suggests. It is much shorter than the popular Klong Prao or White Sand Beach, but given the lack of sandy beaches in this part of the island, it can really be considered quite long. Half a kilometer quiet and beautiful beach skirts the calm waters of the bay. The bottom here is sandy, and the entrance to the water is gradual, which will be important for vacationers with children. At low tide, the water drops about a hundred meters, making the beach even wider, but at any time, Long Beach on Koh Chang is great for swimming and sunbathing.

Relax on the Long Beach of Koh Chang

Koh Chang's Long Beach is mostly young people, as the only resort with very affordable bungalows is located nearby. The cost of one night in the Tree House resort is about 300 baht (about 300 rubles). The main activities on the beach are lying in the sun with a book, relaxing in a hammock in the shade, doing yoga and swimming in the warm waters of the bay. It is sunny and warm throughout the day, due to the fact that the beach faces southwest. In the southern part of Long Beach there is a small coral reef - for snorkelers it is not interesting enough, but around it you can find a lot of cute and unusual sea shells. Behind the cape is another small beach, which can be easily reached on foot. It has a memorial dedicated to the naval battle off the coast of Koh Chang.

Infrastructure of the Long Beach of Koh Chang

On the Long Beach of Koh Chang, tourists will not meet sellers of drinks and snacks, there is also no usual abundance of restaurants and eateries. The only place where you can eat in this part of the island is the restaurant of the Tree House Hotel. The advantage of this place is that you can enjoy your lunch or dinner while admiring the magnificent views of the bay.
Long Beach is located six kilometers from the nearest village of Salak Pet Bay. It can be reached by a concrete road, but the path will not be the easiest, as in some places the road has been destroyed by landslides. In any case, going to the beach will be interesting also because of observation deck near it, overlooking the bay and the islands south of Koh Chang.

Today I will tell you about our bike ride along the east coast of Koh Chang and how we got to the most inaccessible Long Beach.

Long Beach - the most inaccessible beach on Koh Chang

Eastern part of Koh Chang

On the last day of our holiday we decided to explore eastern part of the island. I must say that all good beaches, hotels and all infrastructure are concentrated along the west coast of the island. The eastern side of Koh Chang is still almost completely uninhabited, although small hotels have been built here, and at the end of the road, in Salak Phet Bay, there is a fishing village, a large temple, and mango thickets. Along the way there are signs to the waterfalls. And yet, somewhere out there, behind the mountains, a beach with an alluring name was hidden - Long Beach. That's where we went 🙂

If you go further along the road, you can go to the monument and to the hotel with decent houses on the water Tantawan Resort Koh Chang.

If you are going to Koh Chang, choose and book a hotel.

How to get to Long Beach

You can get to Long Beach by bike (hard!), you can’t get to the beach by car! I saw information on the net that it was possible to get to Long Beach by water - every day boats went there from Longly Beach.

Long Beach is an inaccessible beach that cannot be reached by main road from the northern piers. The paved highway does not lead to it, but a concrete road leads to the beach from the village, located six kilometers on the shores of Salak Phet Bay. In some places the road is damaged by landslides, the roadbed is destroyed in some places, and a few kilometers to the beach it completely turns into a dirt road. Nevertheless, the thorny path fully pays off with the advantages of the beach.

Long Beach

The beach has a speaking name, and by the standards of the area of the island in which it is located, it is really long. It cannot be compared, of course, with beaches or. But half a kilometer sand beach on the east coast- one of a kind.

Salak Phet Bay stretches for about a kilometer in length, with a wonderful view of the bay from the beach. The beach is very quiet, the flat coast is covered with white sand. At low tide, the coast is exposed for about 100 meters, but even at this time it is quite suitable for swimming. You will not find the usual amenities for relaxing on the beach here - the only Tree House hotel is a group of small houses with a minimum set of services. No one cleans up natural garbage brought ashore by the sea, so the beach may seem unkempt.

Long Beach

The inconvenient road and underdeveloped infrastructure do not stop numerous vacationers who come to swim and sunbathe on the fine sand. The beach is especially popular among young people, who need a hammock or a simple mat to relax. They swim, sunbathe, communicate, do yoga. The beach is oriented to the southwest, so you can soak up the sun until it sets, or take a break from it in the shade of numerous palm trees.

The sea on Long Beach is rather shallow, the bottom is flat, without stones. At the ruined coral reef on the south side of the beach, you can find unusual sea shells.

Where to eat

There are no restaurants or cafes in the vicinity of the beach, and beach food sellers do not reach it. Therefore, tourists have two options - either to come with their own provisions, or to visit the restaurant of the Hat Sai Yao Resort. Its advantages are not only well-prepared food, but also a magnificent panorama of the bay.

Hat Sai Yao Resort Restaurant

There are no package tourists here. Basically, those who came to rest for several months live. In a sense, it can be called the last refuge of hippies and rastafarians - Long Beach has the most of them. Entertainment and all other infrastructure are missing. There are only a couple of bars. For groceries, you will have to ride a motorbike to a neighboring village.

Nobody cleans the beach on Long Beach, so there is a lot of natural garbage - leaves, sticks, etc. Because of this, it cannot be called beautiful. This is clearly not a bounty, which is sought in the tropics.

However, it's good to just relax, swim and contemplate almost completely alone. The beach is suitable for those who just want to forget about civilization and live like a savage in the bosom of nature. And at the same time unpretentious in terms of comfort and convenience.

How to get to Long Beach

To get to Long Beach by tuk-tuk costs 1500 baht per car. If you have big company, then it will come out quite inexpensively (for example, if there are 10 people, then 150 baht from each).

You can also get on your own motorcycle, but the last section of the path is not paved and the road is sometimes washed out after rains. From on the west coast, you can get to Long Beach in a little over an hour. Most of the way passes along a good road near the coast. Next, you need to follow the signs. The last few kilometers will have to be driven on a broken dirt-sand road.
