B&B Vegan Inn Airport - Adult Only

Just 2 km from Rome Fiumicino Airport, Vegan Inn Airport Adults Only B&B is set in a private villa with a private furnished garden. Wonderful hotel in a cozy house. A very friendly and hospitable host, who called a taxi for us to go to the airport and explained how to get to the sea. Not very far from the airport, but not easy to get to on foot. There is a shared kitchen with free drinks + breakfast included. Well equipped room, it is clear that cleanliness and comfort are monitored. But there is one caveat that you can guess from the name of the hotel - it is vegan and advocates for the protection of animals. It is not recommended to store food of animal origin in the refrigerator. It's nice to know that being in this hotel, we support, to some extent, defenseless animals. Perfect for a rest stop before a flight. To the beach 20 minutes walk.

Fiumicino (1.3 miles from Fiumicino Airport)

This bed and breakfast is located in Fiumicino, 7 km from shopping center Parco Leonardo and Leonardo Park. Booked a hotel for transit for one night near the airport. On the eve of arrival, they wrote to us via WhatsApp that there was some kind of incident at the hotel and, unfortunately, they would not be able to provide us with a room. But the staff themselves have already booked us a room in a hotel next door, more comfortable, the cost for us will not change (although in fact the second hotel is much more expensive), and as a bonus for the inconvenience, a free shuttle to the airport. I am very grateful to the staff for warning about the situation and for taking care of the client. In any case, for transit I will stay at this hotel.

Fiumicino Airport is a modern transport hub that provides passengers, both tourists and businessmen, with a full range of services and entertainment. It is conveniently located relative to Rome, easily accessible by various modes of transport, suitable as a transit airport. However, it is worth remembering that it can take a lot of time to move between terminals, railway station and parking lots, and be prudent.

*Prices are current as of May 2018.

Rome Fiumicino Leonardo da Vinci Airport (IATA scoreboard code: FCO) is located 35 kilometers west of the center of the Italian capital.

It is the largest and busiest airport in Italy and is the hub for the Italian national carrier Alitalia and Vueling. Passenger turnover of Fiumicino in 2015 amounted to more than 40 million people.

Fiumicino has 4 runways and consists of four terminals: T1, T2, T3 and T5(previously they were marked with letters, but after a large-scale renovation of the airport in 1990-2000 they changed to more convenient digital designations).

Which companies fly from where?

Terminal 1– domestic Italian flights, intra-Schengen flights operated by Alitalia. Domestic Italian and intra-Schengen flights operated by KLM, Air France Hop!, Air Europa, Luxair, Compagnie Aérienne Corse Méditerranée S.A.E.M., Etihad Regional-Darwin Airlines, Air Berlin, Niki and Air Serbia.

Terminal 2– domestic Italian flights, domestic and non-Schengen flights, operated mainly by low-cost airlines Ryan air, Wizz air, Blue Air, Air Moldova, Sun Express and Meridiana.

Terminal 3- all Russian airlines(Aeroflot, Russia, etc.) and the vast majority of other airlines (Schengen and non-Schengen area), some intra-Italian flights also operate from here.

Terminal 5- Direct flights to the USA and Israel operated by American and Israeli airlines respectively.

If you are flying on a connecting flight through Rome's Fiumicino Airport and need to then transfer from one terminal to another, I would advise you to take a ticket with a minimum connection of 2 hours, especially if the flights are operated by different carriers and you need to first pick up luggage from one flight and then check it in his other airline. If there is only one carrier, then I would recommend a minimum connection at Fiumicino Airport from 1.5 hours (and this often means that time will be running out), taking into account distances, queues at passport control and inspection. Naturally, airlines sell tickets with much fewer connections, and if you are late for the second flight within the same ticket due to a late plane or delays at the airport, you must be sent on the next flight. But, since this often violates other plans (check-in at a hotel, a transfer scheduled in advance, etc.), in such large hubs (transfer nodes) in Europe as Fiumicino Airport, it is worth bearing in mind the high probability of traffic overlays and it is better to play it safe by taking more long joint. In addition, between some terminals of Fiumicino Airport, it is necessary to travel by free shuttle buses, which also lengthens travel time (waiting for a bus (interval of 15 minutes), queues of passengers, etc.). In general, according to my travel experience, with children and elderly parents, you should forget about very short connections - this is a lot of stress.

WiFi is free at Fiumicino Airport. To connect, you need to select a network in the "Airport Free Wi-Fi" list, then open it and click on the Free Wi-Fi icon. Every time at the airport you need to do it manually, your gadget will not automatically reconnect.
