Features of rest

In China, you should not use a video camera in temples, museums, and take pictures of train stations, bridges and other objects considered strategic. When exchanging currency, we recommend that you keep the receipt so that later, if necessary, you can reverse the exchange of your local currency into dollars or euros.

History, geography and climate

For a long time, the inhabitants of the island did not even know about the amazing history of its origin, but the era of careful and accurate mapping allowed scientists to compare the coastline of Hainan and the Laizhou Peninsula. The results obtained amazed everyone: it turned out that once these lands were a single whole, but the active tectonic movement of plates in the region led to their split, and the island began to gradually move away from the mainland.

Dadonghai Bay

For centuries, waves of constant earthquakes and volcanic activity rolled over it, which completely died down 8 thousand years ago. The calmed Hainan with an amazing climate over time began to attract the attention of residents of other localities, and now this island accommodates about 8 million people on its territory.

Physical map of the island

It is no coincidence that Hainan is compared to Hawaii, because the weather here is truly heavenly. Even in January, when we are used to wrapping ourselves in warm fur coats and scarves, the inhabitants of the island bask in the sun at an air temperature of 25 ° C. Of course, in such weather conditions, the water in the South China Sea hardly cools down, being at the level of 26 ° C all year round. Thus, the climate itself would be enough for tourists from all over the world to seek to get here, but Hainan presents many surprises both in the field of entertainment and in the possibilities of recovery.

Vacation time is the only period of the year when a person remembers the most important resource of his body - health. Going on a trip, many tourists plan their route so as to be sure to visit health-improving places that can replenish their vitality for the entire coming year. Of course, Western medicines in the form of pills or procedures with drugs are familiar to us. But the pharmaceutical effect on the body does not cover the whole variety of existing methods, especially when it comes to oriental medicine.

Acupuncture is one of the popular areas of traditional Chinese medicine

Hainan Island is one of the most popular centers of alternative medicine throughout Asia. Here, comfortable hotel complexes on the seashore and all kinds of medical institutions are organically combined. A particular benefit of the island's wellness treatments is the materials doctors work with. The fact is that the flora of the island is so diverse that the locals have perfected their ability to extract the most useful substances from each plant for centuries. Thanks to this painstaking experimental work, Hainan was able to become famous throughout the world for its phytotherapeutic practices.

The range of diseases that doctors work with on the island of Hainan is extremely wide. Hundreds of thousands of people come to these places every year to overcome their ailments. The most popular areas of treatment are the following:

 • Diseases of the joints, in the fight against which compresses from herbal infusions, acupuncture and bamboo sticks are used. These procedures restore blood circulation in problem areas and are able to completely eliminate pain syndrome in 10 sessions.
 • Fighting nicotine addiction with inhalation and chest warming.
 • Fast and effective weight loss through acupressure that breaks down and reduces subcutaneous fat.
 • Elimination of pain symptoms during menopause. After a full examination, specialists develop an individual program that combines herbal compresses, acupuncture and bathing in thermal springs, which allows the normal functioning of the female body.
 • Reducing the consequences of a recent stroke, which is achieved by stimulating the nerve endings with special needles.

Water procedures deserve special attention. The fact is that the former volcanic activity on the island of Hainan gave the locals many springs with enriched waters, bathing in which gives incredible results.

Most often, tourists go to the Xinglong Valley, where there are many thermal streams. Here you can find both radon and potassium-sodium spas, the water in which ranges from +45 ° C to +65 ° C. The small town is surrounded by tea and coffee plantations, the products of which can be easily purchased at local markets. Despite the compact size of the settlement, travelers can stay in comfortable villas and hotels, the level of service in which is in no way inferior to European hotels.

Yalong Bay Tropical Paradise Forest Park

Another popular hot spring treatment destination is Nantian. The attraction of the springs is that they are designed in the form of many small hot pools. Having received a preliminary consultation from a specialist, patients bask for hours in the thermal baths, relaxing and nourishing their bodies with health.

Old men talking

Of course, there are many places on Earth that are famous for their hospitals, but what makes Hainan Island so special? Firstly, the incredibly low prices for treatments and related services, holidays in this area are very affordable for tourists. Second, and most importantly, the amazing health of the island's inhabitants. The fact is that a huge number of centenarians live here, who have stepped over their 100th anniversary, continuing to be in good health. And this is perhaps the most important indicator of the effectiveness of local procedures.

Beach rest and entertainment in resort towns

Hainan attracts not only those who want to improve their health, but also those who prefer a beach holiday. To understand the geography of the island, it is most convenient to divide it into three zones in accordance with the bays along which they are located.

Dadonghai Bay is one of the most popular holiday destinations. There are hotels of all kinds of categories, and the white beaches from afar attract those who want to plunge into the azure waters of the sea. All along the coastline there are shops, cafes and markets where you can buy anything you want. This place is a favorite among young people as it is easy to find bars and discos of various styles and formats.

Yalongwan Bay is aimed at wealthy tourists, so most of the hotels have a 5-star status. Leaving the hotel, you immediately find yourself on a private beach with white sand and clear water. The cleanliness of this area immediately led to the emergence of diving clubs. It regularly organizes exciting dives to the bottom, where you can watch the fantastic life of exotic marine life.

Sanyavan Bay is the most economical beach holiday option. This is due to not the most convenient infrastructure, because in order to get to the sea, tourists are forced to cross the road every time. But saving money on hotel allows travelers to visit more attractions and unique places on Hainan Island.

Cultural and natural attractions

The center of the island's tourist life is the city of Sanya. It has a convenient transport connection that allows you to visit any corner of Hainan. After driving just 20 minutes along the coastline, you can find an amazing park with a curious name - "Edge of the World". In our understanding, the park area should be covered with lawns and trees, but in China there are completely different views on this. "End of the World" is a huge beach on which giant boulders are scattered chaotically, left as a memory of past volcanic activity on the island. Almost every cobblestone has its own name, and some of them are so popular that they are depicted on local banknotes. And the very name of the park duplicates the inscription on one of the stones. It says that this place is the most extreme point of the overland part of all of China.

Park "End of the World"

After driving another 10 km in the same direction, you can reach Nanshan Mountain, at the foot of which is the largest center of Buddhism on the continent. On a huge area of 50 sq. km there is a unique park, the landscape of which is made according to all the laws of the Eastern tradition. Not far from the coastline, an artificial island was poured, a huge temple was erected on it to worship the goddess of Mercy. The real highlight of the island is the golden statue of Guanyin, inlaid with precious stones and pearls. The height of the sculpture with a pedestal is 108 m, which allows the stone image of the goddess to be ranked among the five tallest statues in the world.

Li and Miao Village

Also, 35 kilometers from Sanya, there is a huge temple complex, where Taoist monks - representatives of one of the most revered beliefs in China - constantly come. According to legend, it is in this place that the southern dragon lives, ruling a quarter of the world. A visit to this zone does not require any involvement in religion, but it allows you to get acquainted with such unusual rites of a completely different culture.

Villagers at work

For those interested in Chinese culture and folklore, the Li and Miao Village is a must-see. The inhabitants of this settlement are descendants of the aborigines of the island; they attract tourists by demonstrating the way of life of their ancestors. Here you can see buildings made according to ancient technologies of mixing grass and clay, dances, weddings and other daily and festive rituals. It is worth knowing in advance about the schedule of events in order to get to the brightest of them.

Lovers of exotic flora and fauna will be interested in visiting the botanical gardens and zoos of Hainan. There is a nature reserve near Sanya, where you can see thousands of species of butterflies. In one part, visitors are introduced to the classical museum collection, but the most interesting is its "living" component. Near the building there is a tropical forest with a gorge, in which many rare species flutter.

How to get to Hainan Island

On the territory there are two international airports, which daily take dozens of planes from different parts of the world. There are several flight methods available for residents of the Russian Federation, each of which has its own advantages.

It is convenient to fly to Hainan to the airport in the city of Haikou, where Hainan Airlines operates direct flights from Moscow. Usually such a flight takes about 10 hours, its main advantage is the possibility of obtaining a visa directly at the airport. To do this, you must have a passport with you (received no later than 6 months before departure), one color photograph 3.5 × 4.5 cm, an invitation from an individual or legal entity and $ 65 to pay for the visa itself. Thus, by choosing a direct flight, you will be freed from the need to visit the Chinese embassy and, moreover, you will be able to renew your visa two more times for a total of 30 days, simply by going to the airport.

In addition, many flights are received by the city of Sanya. The recently reconstructed building of the local air gate is equipped with all the technological achievements of modern science, and the new terminal has made it possible to increase the flow of tourists several times.

There are two easy ways to get from the airports to the resort towns of the island of Hainan. For passengers whose plane has landed in Haikou, some airlines provide free shuttle buses. If the ticket does not include an additional service, you can go to the hotel by bus or taxi, the parking of which is located right next to the exit. The same opportunities are provided by the Sanya airport, but due to its proximity to the resort towns, transportation usually takes about 15-20 minutes and costs about $ 2.

Moving around the island itself while on vacation is also not difficult. Buses run constantly between cities, transporting tourists to the most popular places, and for those who wish to visit the remote corners of Hainan, taxi services are always available. Inside cities, the easiest way to get around is on foot or by using the services of so-called cycle rickshaws, which will take you to your destination for a reasonable fee.

Hainan is a tropical island belonging to the People's Republic of China (PRC) and its province of the same name. Located in the south of the country, the island's territory is 34,438 sq. Km, the length of the coastline is 1,500 km, the population is 9.1 million people. Hainan is translated into Russian as "an island south of the sea."

The central and southern parts of the island are covered with dense forests, mango, banana, pineapple, coffee, tea and coconut plantations. Industry is concentrated in the northern part of the island, in the area of the island's capital - the city of Haikou (translated as "Sea Gate"), with a population of 2,046,189 million people, a developed industry of recreation and entertainment, a wide network of hotels of various levels.

A unique microclimate that allows recreation and swimming on a year-round basis, strict adherence to the ecological regime (within a radius of 100 km from the city of Sanya, it is prohibited to place any industrial production, discharge into the sea is prohibited, all sewage systems are looped into centralized treatment facilities), created and dynamically developing infrastructure of international tourism, recreation and recreation, beautiful sandy beaches, complexes with radon and mineral springs, a network of tourist routes in the mountains and along the coast, excellent high-speed routes, the presence of memorable geographical places, ethnographic villages of national minorities - the indigenous population of the island of Li and Miao, proximity to Hong Kong and Macau - all this in combination and, first of all, ecology, distinguish Hainan Island from other resorts in Southeast Asia.

How to get there

Two major international airports in the cities of Haikou (Camellia) and Sanya (Phoenix) serve 384 domestic flights and 21 international flights. A regular flight on the Moscow - Sanya route is operated by Transaero Airlines. Charter flights of various airlines fly to Hainan from Russia - for example, from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Yekaterinburg, as well as cities in Siberia and the Far East. As a rule, they all arrive at the airport of Sanya, the main tourist region of the island. The flight time from Moscow is about 10 hours, from Yekaterinburg due to its proximity to Asia - a little less than 8 hours.

If you travel on your own or in a low season, you can fly to the city of Sanya with a transfer in Beijing, where there are regular flights from many cities of Russia (from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Yekaterinburg, Khabarovsk, Vladivostok). You can also use connecting flights with a transfer in other Asian cities - Dubai, Doha, Seoul and others.

Combinations are possible with different cities in China and using a domestic flight, for example from Shanghai or Hong Kong. The closest flight is from Hong Kong (about an hour), but more often fly via Beijing and Shanghai. The flight Beijing - Hainan lasts 4 hours, the flight Shanghai - Hainan lasts 2.5 hours.

Tour operators also offer programs with transfers in Beijing, thus organizing combined tours that combine excursions around the capital of China and rest on a tropical island.

History

The map of China shows how similar the outlines of the coastlines of the mainland peninsula Leizhou and the northern part of Hainan are.

The hypothesis of the origin of the island is based on this similarity, according to which its territory, even in the Tertiary period, was a single whole with the mainland, and then, under the influence of tectonic movements, the earth's crust in this place was torn apart, and the narrow Hainan Strait was formed.

Volcanic activity in Hainan ceased 8000 years ago, and its evidence is the numerous extinct volcanoes, to the craters of which tourist routes are laid.

Another confirmation of the once active volcanic activity on the island is the thermal springs. Scattered across the island, they are surrounded by cottage-style resorts surrounded by tropical greenery.

Climate and weather in Hainan

Hainan Island is often called " Eastern Hawaii”Due to its location at the same latitude as the Hawaiian Islands. The island is washed by the waters of the South China Sea, with clear sunny weather for more than 300 days a year. The amount of precipitation per year is 1500 mm. Hainan is the second largest (after Taiwan) and China's only island with a tropical climate. Hainan Island has clean and healthy air. By the way, Nanshan Park, located on the island, is the only place in the world that meets international environmental standards - ISO 14000.

The average annual air temperature is + 24 ° C, water - + 26 ° C. The average temperature on Hainan Island in January is about + 22 ° С. The hottest months are July and August, when the average monthly temperature reaches 29 ° C, so try to avoid visiting the island during the height of summer. The golden season in Hainan is from November to May. The region is traditionally considered a "typhoon corridor", which is why the island is a paradise for windsurfers.

Transport

Taxi

The most comfortable way to travel in the city. They guard tourists at all hotels, they can be caught on the street or called by phone. At the entrance to the hotel, the doormen on duty give the tourist a coupon with the entered taxi number in case he forgets something in the car. Tariffs in different companies are quite different and depend on the type of car. On average, it is 10-12 yuan for the first 4 km and 1-2 yuan for each subsequent one. At night, the rate may be higher. It is usually written in large size on a piece of paper attached to the windshield or rear right door glass. The taxi driver takes money strictly according to the counter and returns the change in full, and at the first request of the client, he is obliged to issue a check for the amount paid (a cash register is installed in each car). It is impossible to catch a "private trader" in China: a private carriage is prohibited as a phenomenon.

In Haikou and Sanya, the approximate fare is RMB 1.6 per km (minimum RMB 7 per boarding). It will cost about 45 yuan to get from Phoenix airport to the center of Sanya (about 20 km), and 80 yuan to Yalongwan Bay. It should be borne in mind that outside the settlement to which this taxi is assigned, the tariff increases to 2.7 yuan per km. Therefore, when traveling long distances, it is advisable to bargain and negotiate a fixed amount, especially if you want to return with the same car. So, a trip from Sanya to Haikou and back will cost 600 yuan, which is much cheaper than over the counter.

Trishaw

There is such an exotic means of transportation on the island as a cycle rickshaw - using its services, you can get to know the city in more detail. Traveling on a cycle rickshaw is not a cheap pleasure, the price must be negotiated in advance. You can also use regular rickshaws. The fare for regular and cycle rickshaws depends on the passenger's weight and distance. In addition, most hotels provide a bicycle rental service.

Railway connection

In 2003, the first railway line was put into operation, connecting Hainan Island with Guangdong Province. The journey takes 15 hours. The train follows the eastern route of the island, then gets on the ferry and travels on the ferry for 30 km. There are 3 trains per day.

Urban vehicles

In the city of Sanya, there are two bus routes: 2 and 4. The distance between the stops is 500 m.

There are also several minibus routes: from the city of Sanya to the Dragon Bay of Asia, to the End of the World Park and to the Nanshan Temple.

The bus station for long distance buses is located on Jiefang Avenue. The bus to Haikou City leaves every 20 minutes. Bus station opening hours: 7.00 - 23.00.

Car rental

Car rental in Hainan, as in all of China, is possible only with a driver.

Areas

The province consists of Hainan, Nansha, Zhongsha and Xisha islands. The capital and largest city of Hainan province is Haikou. Sanya city and its surroundings is the largest tourist center of the island. Other important cities are Dongfang, Danzhou, Qionghai.

The emergence of the island's capital, Haikou (translated as "Sea Gate"), dates back to the Tang Dynasty (618-907). Ancient monuments have been preserved in the suburbs of Haikou. The most famous of them is the so-called "Idol of Five Noble Men", which reminds of the fact that in imperial China the island served as a place of exile for rebellious and disliked officials.

In the southern part of the island is the year-round resort of Sanya, the main center of tourism in Hainan. Around the resort in three bays (Sanya, Yalongwan and Dadonghai) are located most of the hotels and the main recreation areas of the island. Charter flights from Russia arrive at the airport of Sanya.

Beaches and bays

All beaches in the resorts of Hainan are municipal, equipped with caring hoteliers with everything you need: sun loungers, umbrellas and showers. The beaches are sandy and gently sloping everywhere, the water is warm and clear. The water in Yalongwan Bay is the cleanest, the sea is especially calm and slightly cooler than on other parts of the coast of the island. Major diving centers are located here. Surfers, on the other hand, prefer Dadonghai Bay.

The most popular are hotels in Dadonghai or Yalunwang. Each zone has its own advantages and disadvantages. For example, the beaches of Dadonghai are very often crowded: the local population comes there, and there are few sun beds and umbrellas. The Chinese come to the beach not only to swim, but also just to sit and admire the sea and observe tourists. The Chinese themselves prefer to stay away from the sea - it's cheaper. In Yalunwan, on the beach, tourists will be alone, peace and tranquility are provided for them. However, for evening entertainment, you will have to go to Sanya (about 30 km and about 50 yuan). Sanyavan Bay is located near Sanya Airport, its infrastructure is still developing. The main disadvantage of this resort area is that all the beaches are across the road. The coastal waters are not as clear as in Yalunwana, but the surrounding landscapes compensate for this.

Dadonghai Bay (Dadonghai, Great East Sea)

Dadonghai, located near Sanya City, is considered the most beautiful beach in China. Dadonghai is a few kilometers of white sand, azure sky, clear sea water, and far in the sea - the sails of fishing junks and sampans, glowing in the evenings and attracting the inhabitants of the deep sea. Dadonghai is the center of the evening tourist hangout, where the fun and conversation in nightclubs, numerous fish restaurants and taverns does not stop until the morning. For many kilometers around there are vast spaces overgrown with palms, pineapples, mangoes and blooming cacti. This bay is the busiest with a large number of restaurants, cafes and shops.

Dadonghai is the most developed and democratic bay. It was here that the first tourists from Russia arrived, which largely determined the features of the development of infrastructure on its territory. There are many shops, cafes and restaurants here. Most of them are concentrated in the area of the largest store in the bay, Summer moll. There is also a small fruit market here. Everything in the bay is focused on the rest of the Russian-speaking tourist. Signs and menus in Russian, Russian-speaking staff, assortment of goods and the like. This bay has an intense nightlife with all its manifestations. It offers diversified accommodation in a wide price range: from hotels with international star categories to hostels and apartments. The beach area is quite equipped, over the past two years a large line of cafes and restaurants has been built along the beaches, which, however, have not narrowed the beach.

Yalong bay (Dragon of Asia)

It was here that the first diving club in China was created, and on one of the nearby islands a “Tourist Club” with the first “experimental” casino in China was opened. There is still no lively infrastructure on the territory of the bay - restaurants, shops, bars and discos. All this is located on the territory of the hotels themselves. At the same time, in the central part of the bay there are Shoping village, on the territory of which there are shops, a mini supermarket, a fruit shop and restaurants. Live music is played here in the evening. The second shopping and entertainment zone bazaar is also located in the center of the bay and is in the process of formation. The transport infrastructure is currently quite developed, in addition to taxis to move around the bay and outside, you can use tourist buses and minibuses.

In the coastal waters, shrimps, crabs, lobsters, lobsters, countless shellfish and tropical fish, moray eels, lampreys and many other species are caught. All this can be seen in the showcase aquariums of restaurants and taverns. Only living seafood is appreciated here. Any dish is cooked no more than 5-7 minutes over an open fire in a huge frying pan with hot oil, adding various spices and seasonings - the Chinese know a lot about seafood and know how to cook them.

Sanya bay

Sanyavan Bay is the least visited by Russian tourists. There are 4 * and 5 * hotels here. Purchases

For a long time, for the West, China was primarily the home of silk. Even the Greek name for China, Seres, from which the names of China in most European languages are derived, goes back to the Chinese word Si for silk. The homeland of Chinese silk is located in the cities of Suzhou and Hangzhou. It was there that the world-renowned top quality silk was first produced. A silk salon in Sanya was opened by one of the largest silk factories, where you can buy silk clothes, silk bedding, silk embroidery and paintings from this material. This is the largest store on the island.

In addition to pearls, tea and rock crystal can be brought from the island. Silk, porcelain, woodcarving, Buddhist souvenirs and feng shui symbols are also very popular with tourists.

Haishudonglu Street in Haikou (the capital of the island) is a place where prestigious shops are concentrated, and arts and crafts can be purchased at the market on the edge of the sky and the sea. In Sanya City, the main department stores are located on Liberation Street in the city center.

Safety

Health insurance and medical assistance

When applying for a visa, a medical insurance policy is not required for the period of the trip. However, insurance is highly recommended for all tourists traveling to the island. This is due to active recreation and the possibility of injury. The policy does not provide for the treatment of chronic diseases and dental care. It should also be borne in mind that no insurance company covers the costs of treating sexually transmitted diseases and diseases caused by alcohol drug poisoning. Medical services received in the PRC are paid for in cash. Upon returning to Russia, the tourist receives compensation from the insurance company upon presentation of invoices in accordance with the contract. In the event of an insured event, you must call the numbers indicated in the insurance and contact the hotel's medical center. After calling a doctor, you must immediately call the service center specified in the insurance policy and notify the insurance company about using medical services.

Where to call in case of emergency (phones for the city of Sanya)

Safety

Protect your bags in crowded places. Put your passports and tickets in the safe at the hotel immediately; on the street, passports are not required. Do not carry large amounts of money into the city. The sun loungers on the hotel's beach are free in most cases. Beware of the scorching sun, you can burn out in 15-20 minutes. The best time for sunbathing is from 8 to 11 am and from 4 pm to 7 pm. It is better to take sun cream with you (with a coefficient of at least 20 units) - only Chinese brands with a whitening effect are sold on the island. Check the change carefully, there are fake 10 and 50 yuan bills - they should not tear at the edges, the texture of the paper is different, in the light of Mao Zedong does not look like the one depicted on the bill.

In case of a conflict situation with police officers or controllers in transport, say “budun” (translated as “I don’t understand”), it often helps and they will leave you alone, even if you did something wrong.

You cannot take pictures in the temples. You can, standing on the street, through an open door, try to remove the interior of the room. But even if you shoot in a temple, no one will pull out your camera. They may simply ask to leave the premises. It is not recommended for tourists to photograph government agencies and strategic objects (even bridges and dams).

In general, the island is safe. At one time there were many motorcycle robbers ripping off bags. The authorities then posted posters on the streets stating that robbers could be killed in such cases, which halted the looting. In any case, it is better not to put anything of value in your handbags; in the city, stay away from the roadway.

A girl can go unaccompanied, people are friendly and hardly anything can happen. There are a lot of policemen on the streets, you can safely walk even at night.

It is not recommended to use purchased food and drinks on the street, drink and eat in places outside the hotel that are questionable from the point of view of hygiene. As soon as possible, wash your hands and thoroughly wash all fruits with bottled mineral water, regardless of where the fruits were purchased. Use bottled water for drinking, do not drink tap water.

In cities and resort areas, there is practically no danger of meeting poisonous insects and predatory animals. However, when going to the beach, you must not forget that this is a tropical coast, and you need to be careful when swimming. As in any other warm seas, it is better to swim in the sea only in special slippers.

A foreigner in China should always have a hotel business card with an inscription in Chinese, or a card with his details filled in by any Chinese translator. It must be presented to local residents in the event that a tourist is lost in the tangled streets.

A Russian passport is of great value to some Chinese, as there is the problem of illegal migration to Russia and further to the West. Having lost your passport, immediately contact the Embassy or Consulate. In difficult cases, also do not hesitate to contact the Russian Embassy, where a duty officer is working around the clock.

Personal first aid kit

All medications that you use constantly at home must be present in your personal first aid kit. In addition, a supply of trusted drugs that facilitate and improve digestion is required.
