Airplane suitcase dimensions and weight. How much baggage is allowed on the plane? What you can't take on a plane

The allowed dimensions and weight of hand luggage on the plane are limited by certain standards. At the same time, there are no universal parameters of baggage that a passenger can take with him in the cabin of the aircraft: basically, the norms depend on the carrier, the paid class of service, as well as the flight distance.

In any case, you will have to find out the permitted weight and size of hand luggage in advance: in order not to pay for overweight and to avoid the most unpleasant situation - getting rid of unnecessary things just before departure.

With increased attention, it is worth studying the low-cost airlines' fares and proposals for new promotional fares before buying tickets - this applies to both domestic and foreign airlines. Cheap flights may be subject to restrictions: no baggage or carry-on baggage, or more stringent baggage weight requirements.

Size and weight of carry-on baggage on Russian airlines

The maximum carry-on baggage weight on the planes of most Russian airlines is 10 kg, for business class - 15 kg. However, before buying a ticket, you need to find out the norms for the selected fare, since they can be very different.

Weight and dimensions of carry-on baggage on foreign airlines

The range of tolerances for the weight and size of the bag in the cabin is even wider for foreign airlines. Depending on the air carrier, the weight of hand luggage on airplanes often varies from 5 to 18 kg. In some cases, carry-on baggage allowances can surprise you with generosity, even in economy class.

The websites of airlines operating international passenger transportation are often available in several languages, including Russian.

Hand luggage on the plane is a real headache for most tourists returning from vacation. For many passengers, the very concept of "hand luggage" raises many questions. Unfortunately, not all passengers know what is the difference between carry-on luggage and luggage, and even more so from an accessory to carry-on luggage (an accessory to carry-on luggage is a very new concept for modern civil aviation).

This post will be a continuation of useful articles on the tricks of independent travel. Earlier, I wrote in detail about how to look for cheap air tickets, about what travel insurance is and how travel insurance differs from insurance for traveling abroad, in this post we will talk in detail about hand luggage and how to fly on airplanes not to overpay for overweight.

What is carry-on baggage

Here's what Wikipedia says about carry-on baggage:

Carry-on baggage is a cargo that a passenger takes on board a passenger vehicle (in our case it is an airplane, but the vehicle can be anything) without handing it over to the luggage compartment.

As you can see, hand luggage is everything that a passenger takes with him on board. Many people think so, but if you look more closely at the rules for the carriage of goods on passenger planes, it turns out that everything that is on you, including outerwear and the contents of your pockets, is no longer hand luggage, but is called personal items and in fact is not taken into account in any way. And there are a lot of such interesting points in the rules of transportation, read on about that.

Carry-on baggage rules

The basic rules for carrying hand luggage on board are the same for most airlines, with the exception of low-cost airlines. For low-cost carriers, any advantage is a means of additional income, so you should be aware of this and take into account the special rules of low-cost airlines.

It should be understood that any restriction on the carriage of things in the cabin of the aircraft is, first of all, taking care of the passenger and the safety of air transportation, and then the opportunity to take extra money from the passenger for the excess. Now I will explain what I mean.

Here are the basic rules for carrying carry-on baggage on an airplane:

  • all hand luggage should be no more than 115 cm (in the sum of three dimensions, 55 × 40 × 20) - everything is clear here, this is so that things would fit on the shelves;
  • the weight of hand luggage must be within the range of 8 - 12 kilograms (depending on the airline) - this is so that each passenger can independently put their things in the boxes above the seats;
  • bans on liquids and other bans - unfortunately, after the American tragedy of September 11, civil aviation has changed, the rules have not become stricter, they have become completely different. Those who have flown before know how much easier it was earlier to pass the pre-flight inspection.

Hand luggage size

In this part of the post, we'll talk about how much carry-on baggage you can take on the plane, what to do with goods from Duty Free and about other interesting things that will help you save money and not pay for overweight.

Airplane carry-on baggage weight

The weight of the baggage that you want to take on the plane is strictly regulated and there can be no problems with it, or vice versa, this is the main problem (after all, sometimes they require payment of the overweight). For different airlines, the weight can vary from 5 kilograms to 12 kilograms. Low-cost airlines may have their own "quirks" about the weight of hand luggage.

If you read this post to the end, you will find for yourself several legal ways to reduce the weight of your carry-on luggage and at the same time carry everything you want.

Carry-on baggage dimensions on the plane

As I mentioned earlier, for most airlines, the size of carry-on baggage is the same, as most airlines have the same aircraft models and the same overhead bins.

The allowed size of carry-on baggage, in most cases, is: 55 cm x 40 cm x 20 cm or 115 cm (in the sum of 3 measurements). Here it should be borne in mind that skis 115 centimeters long will most likely not be allowed to bring you on board, but will be forced to check in your luggage, since there is simply nowhere to attach them in the cabin, well, not in the aisle to carry them.

With the determination of the dimensions of hand luggage, passengers always have difficulties, for an advance solution of which, many airlines install special templates at airports that imitate the permitted sizes and everyone can check their things using these templates.

Novice travelers always have a question what is the best way to pack things that fly in the cabin. I have tried many options from a sturdy suitcase to a comfortable backpack and can provide some tips.

  • a suitcase for carry-on luggage - very convenient if you are transporting really valuable and fragile things (priceless Chinese vase of the Qing dynasty, fragile figurines made of Murano glass, etc.). In this case, the "armor" of the sides of the suitcase is justified, in all other cases, the suitcase is too inconvenient for carry-on luggage;
  • a carry-on bag is an excellent solution, it can be tamped and thus it will pass any “dimensional” control, but it can be very inconvenient to carry such a bag at the airport. If the bag has wheels, then this option is quite suitable;
  • a carry-on backpack is the most convenient thing for transporting things on the plane, it perfectly passes all size controls (tested on a 45 liter backpack), it is easy to carry and hands are always free. I recommend this option to everyone.

Duty Free items in carry-on baggage

When buying goods in Duty Free shops on the territory of the airport (in the so-called "sterile zone"), the weight of the purchases should be taken into account. The stores themselves do not impose any restrictions on the sale of goods (buy at least half of the store).

In theory, Duty Free goods are personal items and are not counted as carry-on luggage, but getting on the plane can be difficult (if you have too many Duty Free purchases), so you should be rational in everything. It should also be remembered that it is required to transport goods from Duty Free in a special container (in which the goods are packed in the store) and not to break the packaging throughout the flight. It is advisable to keep a cashier's receipt for your purchase during the entire flight, it may come in handy.

If there were no problems with boarding the plane and your Duty Free purchases fly with you, then you may face restrictions at the customs at the arrival station. Each country has clear rules on the possibility of duty-free import of goods, and some (mainly Muslim countries) completely prohibit the import of the most popular goods from Duty Free (alcoholic beverages). As a rule, the customs office "gives the go-ahead" for the import of 1 liter of strong alcohol and 1 block of cigarettes, for a larger volume a duty must be paid. Each country has its own rules, so you should clarify this before your trip.

If you are flying with a transfer, you should remember that you will have to go through the security control procedure again, and here your Duty Free package can be regarded as hand luggage, and not as personal items. In these cases, you must present a receipt from the Duty Free shop of the first airport (where you made your purchase) and, of course, the goods from Duty Free must be properly packed.

Carry-on luggage accessory

Now comes the fun part. Not so long ago, some airlines have introduced a new concept for passenger aviation - "Accessory for carry-on luggage", for most passengers this is a real salvation from overweight and that's why. Some things go beyond the concept of carry-on luggage and fall into accessories for carry-on luggage, then I will give an approximate list (it may differ for each airline, but for low-cost airlines it may be completely absent). Now the passenger has hand luggage with a regulated weight and size and the ability to carry on the plane some of the things that were previously considered hand luggage and took up most of the space there.

Here's what you can take on the plane as an accessory to your hand luggage from Aeroflot:

  • handbag / men's briefcase;
  • folder for papers;
  • umbrella;
  • cane;
  • bouquet of flowers;
  • outerwear;
  • laptop computer, photo camera, camcorder;
  • in-flight reading materials;
  • baby food for the child during the flight;
  • a cradle when transporting a child;
  • suit in a garment bag;
  • cellular telephone;
  • crutches;
  • a bag with purchases from the Duty Free store.

And again there are several incomprehensible situations, there are instructions about the laptop, but there is no indication about the charger, there are instructions about the camera, but they will force you to check the tripod in your luggage, etc.

Hand luggage for children

For passengers with small children, transporting things for all children's needs becomes a big problem. Fortunately, most airlines provide the option to use an extra standard size carry-on piece. This rule applies to passengers with children under the age of 2 years, if the child has a full ticket and a seat in the aircraft cabin, then he also has a full place for hand luggage.

How and where to place carry-on baggage on board the aircraft

To accommodate hand luggage on board the aircraft, there are luggage racks above the passenger seats; it is their volume that dictates stringent requirements (in terms of weight and size) for passengers' hand luggage. If necessary, the carry-on baggage can be placed under the seat in front of the passenger (not all seats on the plane have this option).

Many airlines clearly state in their rules that during air travel, the accessory must be placed under the seat of the seat (located in front of you), and all carry-on luggage should be placed on the shelf (above your seat). It is prohibited to place any items in the aisles of the aircraft or in the space near the emergency exit.

How much carry-on baggage can you take on the plane

How much carry-on baggage you can take on the plane depends largely on the carrier company and on the class of service.

For most airlines, there is the same standard for the number of pieces of hand luggage:

  • economy class - one piece of hand luggage;
  • business class - two pieces of hand luggage;
  • first class - two pieces of carry-on baggage.

Low-cost airlines stand apart, they may require an additional payment for things in the cabin. Some American and Canadian carriers provide as many as 2 pieces of carry-on baggage when flying in regular economy class.

Liquids in carry-on baggage

Restrictions on the carriage of liquids in hand luggage seem to me the most delusional restrictions for aircraft passengers. Judge for yourself, because all these restrictions are on 1 liter of 100 ml. for real "bad guys" it's very easy, just a few people with bad intentions and that's it.

But for law-abiding passengers, these perversions of liquids in carry-on luggage cause enormous inconvenience and additional hassle. It is all the fault of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, which completely changed the attitude towards aviation security and now every passenger (including infants with their cans of baby food) is viewed as a potential terrorist.

The rules for carrying liquids in hand luggage are as follows: a passenger has the right to carry one liter of liquids (in total) in hand luggage, liquids must be placed in containers with a volume not exceeding 100 milliliters. All liquids carried on the plane must be packed in a sealed transparent bag (with a reusable fastener), the size of the bag for liquids must not exceed 20x20 centimeters.

And as always, there are many ambiguities that confuse passengers and cause problems. For example, you will not be allowed to take on board a half-empty tube of toothpaste, if its volume is more than 100 ml, to all your objections “There’s only half there”, the reaction is only one “Not allowed”. Toothpaste is not so a pity, but what if it's an expensive cream in a 125 ml tube? Anything over 100 ml. will be seized and disposed of.

There are a number of goods that do not look like liquids (for example, no sane person can call cheese a liquid), but when transported on an airplane, they are considered liquids:

  • perfumery;
  • shampoos;
  • gels;
  • lotions;
  • sprays;
  • oils;
  • paints;
  • creams;
  • deodorants;
  • shaving foam;
  • ink;
  • lipstick;
  • Toothpaste;
  • the drinks;
  • syrups;
  • soups;
  • cheeses;
  • canned food;
  • caviar;
  • jam;
  • homemade preparations.

Thus, it turns out that you can carry caviar and cheese in your hand luggage, but no more than 1 liter (in total), which is divided into 100 ml. capacity. A normal person is not able to imagine hard cheese poured into small bottles, and this often causes misunderstandings between passengers and employees at airports.

About cheese in bottles - this is a joke, but it is advisable that all liquids are in labeled containers, so you save yourself from unnecessary questions. It should be remembered that airport workers have the right to open any jar or tube and make sure of the contents, it doesn't matter if there is an expensive cream or baby food inside.

What can be carried in carry-on baggage

What can I take in my hand luggage on the plane? Here it is worth answering to yourself the next question, about the need for things that you drag into the aircraft cabin. It's understandable when you take documents and really valuable things with you, but when people bring things into the plane's cabin that could easily survive the flight in the luggage compartment, the question “Why?” Arises. I believe that you should take the most necessary and valuable things in your hand luggage, and either check in everything else or not take it on the trip at all.

The drinks

Any drinks in glass, plastic or cardboard containers up to 100 ml. can be carried in carry-on baggage, the packaging requirements for drinks from Duty Free stores are softer and are not limited to 100 ml.

Any drinks and alcohol can be carried in hand luggage, however, the strength of alcoholic beverages must be no more than 70%, everything above is considered a flammable substance and is not allowed for transportation in the cabin of the aircraft.

Food and food

There are no special requirements and restrictions for food (please check with your airline), if you are bringing food within reasonable limits (a sandwich for the trip or a few apples). It should be remembered that on the territory of some states there are strict regulations that prohibit the import of meat, dairy and other products. It should also be noted that some products (for example, cheese, yogurt or caviar) are considered liquids, and the volume of the package should not exceed 100 ml.

Here is a list of these products - liquids:

  • caviar;
  • yoghurts (regular or drinkable);
  • soups;
  • honey, jam;
  • canned food (meat, fish, homemade products);
  • foods with a lot of sauce or gravy.

Some airlines allow the following solid and dry foods to be taken on board:

  • sandwiches;
  • sausages, cutlets, sausages;
  • biscuits, chips, crisps, waffles;
  • vegetables and fruits;
  • sweets, cakes and pastries.

Electronics and modern gadgets

When passing through customs at the airport, you will be asked to remove the laptop from your carry-on baggage and put it in the basket for later scanning. Laptop, phone, smartphone, etc. may not be counted in the weight of carry-on baggage and be considered personal items, but here you should study the airline's rules more carefully.

On some flights to the United States, any electronic device larger than a smartphone is prohibited in carry-on baggage.

The following electronic devices can be transported in the aircraft cabin:

  • mobile phone (except for exploding smartphones samsung galaxy note 7);
  • laptop, tablet, e-book;
  • photo camera, video camera;
  • MP3, DVD player.

Medicines

Medications and medications necessary on the road can be taken in hand luggage, but please note that you may be asked to prove the need for certain medications (you should have a doctor's instruction on the need to take medications).

Care accessories

The following personal devices may be carried in carry-on baggage.

  • safety razor and replacement blades for it, as well as an electric razor;
  • hairdryer and other hair styling accessories;
  • a toothbrush (including an electric one).

Cosmetics and hygiene products

In hand luggage, you can take cosmetic and hygiene products in any (glass, plastic, paper, wooden, etc.) packages up to 100 ml.

  • cream, gel;
  • sun lotion or oil;
  • toothpaste;
  • deodorant (solid, spray, roll-on);
  • hair spray and foam;
  • contact lens fluid;
  • shampoo, mask, hair balm, etc.

Other items in carry-on baggage

  • literature and magazines;
  • a picture (its size should not exceed the allowable size for carry-on luggage);
  • dishes, glasses, sets, etc .;
  • musical instrument;
  • wedding dress and other clothes (you must carry it in a special case - a garment bag, it is counted as one
  • piece of hand luggage).

It is important to know some of the features that may surprise you right at the airport (read the passenger story in the comments to this post). So, for example, a regular skateboard can be regarded as a weapon and will be asked to be checked in. It became interesting to me and I asked the representatives of the airport whether it was true or not, that's what they answered me. The full answer to my letter can be seen in the photos.

In accordance with the requirements of aviation security, in accordance with clause 72 of the Order of the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation of July 25, 2007 No. 104: quality of checked baggage.

All restrictions on the carriage of things in hand luggage can be conditionally divided into several groups.

  • it is forbidden for security reasons - weapons and toys imitating it (firearms, piercing-cutting, etc.), exploding smartphones Samsung Galaxy Note 7, I think everything is clear;
  • it is forbidden for the convenience of passengers - everyone wants to carry their oversized cargo on board, but no one wants to sit next to a friend who has dragged an oversized cargo into the cabin;
  • prohibited for commercial purposes - it is possible to use the cabin of the aircraft as a "gazelle for transportation", but it is expensive. There is a desire to bring 50 kilograms of mango from Thailand - pay for the overweight and carry it.

Now let's talk about this in more detail, the recent events with the exploding Samsung Galaxy Note 7 smartphones surprised and frightened many. And as a result - a complete ban on the use of this smartphone model on board an aircraft.

Piercing and cutting objects, explosive goods and weapons

  • it is forbidden to take firearms and any piercing and cutting objects (knife, corkscrew, razor blades, sharp manicure accessories, etc.) in hand luggage;
  • working tools (screwdrivers, nails, file, drill, etc.);
  • sports equipment (skateboard, rollers, scooters, baseball bats, etc.).

Electronics and modern gadgets are prohibited in carry-on luggage

After the scandal with the exploding smartphone Samsung Galaxy Note 7, many countries have banned the carrying of Samsung Galaxy Note 7 smartphones on board the aircraft, and the Federal Air Transport Agency went even further and banned this model of the smartphone from being carried even to the airport.

Many airlines have banned small vehicles powered by lithium batteries (mono-wheels, mini-segways, hoverboards, gyro scooters, etc.) in carry-on luggage and in the cargo hold.

On March 21, 2017, the US authorities banned the transportation of electronic devices in carry-on baggage, the ban was imposed on flights from the Middle East and North Africa. Passengers from these countries (Egypt, Jordan, Kuwait, Morocco, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and the United Arab Emirates) traveling directly to the United States of America are not allowed to carry laptops, tablets, cameras and other electronics in their carry-on baggage. Great Britain also joined this ban.

Food and food

If you managed to bring food and other food products on board (some airlines do not particularly find fault with this), then it is advisable to destroy it (eat it) there, since many countries prohibit the import of any agricultural products, meat, milk, etc. etc. without proper certifications.

Carrying hand luggage on the plane, tricks and life hacks

The main life hack "How not to overpay for overweight luggage" is to leave everything unnecessary at home, but not everyone can give themselves such pleasure - traveling with a half-empty backpack, so I will tell you how I cope with excess weight in my carry-on luggage.

Usually, I travel with two backpacks, one large (about 45 liters), the other small (30 liters). At the beginning of your journey, all things (including a 30-liter backpack) are placed in a 45-liter one and fly as hand luggage in the cabin. During a long trip, backpacks are filled with all sorts of necessary (and not so) gizmos and on the way back they do not fit into each other, and this is where you have to think about how to optimize the weight and size of your luggage.

Here's a sample list of things to do to reduce the weight of your luggage after a long trip:

Make the most of your body- sounds strange, but if you understand that the overweight is inevitable, then you can bring some of the things into the cabin of the plane on yourself in the literal sense of the word. For example, you can put on warm clothes from your luggage (it may be hot and you will look stupid), you can put small but heavy souvenirs in your pockets, etc.

Going even further, you can buy fashionable and very practical clothes from the famous SCOTTeVEST brand. Their signature jackets are specially designed for the traveler, and the top models have over 40 pockets of all shapes and sizes for different gadgets and devices. With this functionality, all SCOTTeVEST clothing looks fashionable and modern. Any of their little thing, be it a cap or underpants, will be necessarily provided with storage pockets.

Get rid of all the unnecessary- there are things that there is no point in bringing back and you can get rid of them in a variety of ways, they can simply be thrown into the trash, donated to the aborigines or sold. On my Indian trip, the gift in the form of an ordinary ballpoint pen caused extremely positive emotions for the local children.

Find a travel companion- if you find a travel companion whose luggage is not as much as yours, then you can always ask for a service. But here you should be very careful and trust the person (and he should also trust you), because where is the guarantee of what may be in the things you have transferred and where is the guarantee that a new acquaintance will return the luggage to you.

Send some of your luggage by mail- in any country there is a post office and this fact should not be ignored. The cost of a parcel to Russia will cost some money, but it is much cheaper than the rates for excess baggage.

A passenger flying by plane must distinguish between baggage, which is checked in at the counter, and carry-on baggage. These are completely different concepts, and if you distinguish between them, then you can save a lot. Baggage is a large suitcase that you check in at boarding. He must be verified and registered. Hand luggage is a travel bag or backpack that a passenger can carry on board. It can be of such a weight and dimensions that you can put it in place yourself. But how much hand luggage you can take on the plane and what exactly can be put in such a backpack depends on the airline's standards.

What can be carried in carry-on baggage?

    Medicines and baby food. Food must be packed separately and must be presented at check. But in order to bring medicine on the plane, you must have an appropriate prescription with the seal and signature of the doctor. This is especially true for aerosols and preparations containing narcotic substances.

    Liquids. Here, some airlines have very strict volume limits. It is necessary to contact the airline in advance for information. In order to freely transport a certain volume of liquid, you need to follow some rules. All tubes must be packed in one bag. Any liquid substances must be in containers during transportation, and their volume must not exceed 100 ml. The tube itself with the liquid should be sealed in a plastic bag with a fastener.

    Hygiene products. You can take almost everything, but most of them are liquids, which is why they are transported according to the relevant rules. But aerosols are not allowed at all.

    Electronics. You can take any gadgets with you on the plane. They belong to personal belongings, and not to carry-on luggage, therefore they are not included in the weight limit of 10 kg. During landing, usually large electronics are checked: a laptop or a camera.

    Food. You can take any food on board - dry or solid. But with regard to conservation, there is a liquid restriction.

    Duty free zone. This issue should always be considered separately. Anything that you buy before boarding directly at DutyFree can be transported if you do not break the packaging. The only thing is that it all fits into a weight of 10 kg. If your carry-on baggage exceeds the volume, then you will have to pay a fine.

In addition, many airlines allow you to take personal items with you, the list of which includes: umbrellas, pillows, blankets, handbags, books, and so on.

It is forbidden to take:

    Liquids up to one hundred milliliters in volume.

    Hazardous chemical or biological substances.

    Dangerous items, weapons.

    Animal products, excluding sandwiches.

    Explosive items.

How much carry-on baggage can you take on the plane

If a passenger travels in economy class, he can carry a bag for one piece of luggage with him on board the aircraft, and in business class it is allowed to take two full pieces.

The term "one place" means a bag with the sum of the sides in three dimensions (added width, height, length) up to 115 centimeters. A standard flight bag measures 55 * 40 * 20. But the weight of different air carriers may be different. It can depend on the distance or proximity of the route, or the type of aircraft. For example, Aeroflot allows the carriage of up to 10 kg of hand luggage, KLM - about 12 kg, Lufthansa - up to 8 kg. At the same time, do not forget that you will lift your bag into place yourself.

Most carriers in Europe and the CIS countries consider the weight of hand luggage in the range of 8-10 kg to be the norm. Before the flight, it is imperative to clarify this information with the company so that you do not have to pay extra. Some air carriers allow overloading, while others force them to buy second place even with a slight overweight of 300-500 grams.

Some Canadian and American carriers provide a full two pieces of carry-on baggage, even for Economy Class passengers. This is a great way to save money.

In order not to pay a fine, it is imperative that you familiarize yourself with the airline's requirements regarding personal belongings and how much carry-on baggage you can take on the plane.

Many have witnessed cases when passengers were forced to pay for even a small preponderance of the things they carry with them. There are basic rules according to which the permissible weight of baggage on the plane is formed, and norms that determine the basic standards for its transportation.

Permitted baggage weight: general rules

It is very rare that people fly by plane and do not take their luggage with them. At the very least, they take carry-on luggage with them, the most common items in this segment of luggage is a handbag or nubuck. Most of the items are usually checked in luggage. In this case, you need to take into account the rules according to which a particular airline determines the free transportation of things. Each firm has its own rules. Sometimes you can take up to 30 kg with you for free, but in some cases you will have to pay extra for such a volume of things.

All airlines for economy class passengers provide only one piece of baggage, if we are not talking about participation in various promotions and bonuses. Often the allowable weight of baggage on an airplane fluctuates between 20-23 kg, and the rest has to be paid additionally, and usually quite an impressive amount. For a child under the age of 10, there is a separate place in which you can put at least 10 kg of things.

The maximum allowable weight of baggage on an aircraft is always no more than 32 kg, as this value is determined by international standards. To get the second place, you will have to pay a rather large sum of money, so it is advisable to meet the allotted mass or try to take part in programs in which you can buy a seat on the plane with two luggage compartments at once.

These inconveniences primarily concern those passengers who purchase economy class tickets. For those who decide to take a business-class or first-class seat, 2 pieces of baggage are automatically issued at once. Sometimes people want to carry luggage in one compartment, which weighs more than 32 kg. In this case, you need to call the airline and make an appointment in advance, but you should be prepared for the fact that employees may refuse to implement this request.

Many passengers traveling in pairs use one common trick. Instead of taking two bags with you, they put all the necessary things in one. The weight is obtained above the norm for one person, but does not exceed this mark for two, since it is often equal to 46 kg. If you look at the instructions given by the airline, you can make sure that bundling of baggage is not allowed.

Overweight is allowed for two passengers, but it should not exceed the permissible limit of 32 kg. Compliance with this rule depends on the decision of the airline employees, as well as on the position of the loaders regarding the highest mark of the mass of the cargo to be lifted. For example, the permissible weight of baggage on a Ural Airlines aircraft ranges from 20 kg to 40 kg, depending on the selected fare.

The allowable weight of baggage on the plane in the carry-on baggage configuration is also different, it is determined by the airline's rules. Many allow you to carry from 5 kg to 10 kg of things. Regardless of the bag that is sent as carry-on luggage, everyone can take personal items with them, such as a coat, umbrella, blanket, laptop, or a camera with storage bags. It is also allowed to take orthopedic devices with you, often canes or crutches.

Many people prefer to purchase tickets immediately for flights of 2-3 airlines that have entered into a code-share agreement. This aspect does not mean that the rules of carriage because of this are combined and become identical. Each airline has its own requirements and sets certain standards. It is necessary to know the rules of each company in order not to be mistaken with the maximum allowable mark when choosing any transport route.

Baggage from various airlines

If you are interested in the question of what is the permissible weight of baggage on the plane, you should familiarize yourself with the conditions of various carriers. Low-cost airlines can have relatively low fares, but at the same time there are quite unpredictable baggage allowances. Sometimes a person has to pay for a piece of baggage, regardless of how much each item weighs. Many firms draw up such rules, compliance with which can be ensured only after considerable time spent on studying them and purchasing the necessary packaging.

Flydubai

One piece of carry-on baggage weighing no more than 7 kg and dimensions less than 56 cm x 45 cm x 25 cm. You can also take a small bag with you or replace it with nubuck. For paid baggage transportation, money must be paid in advance. It is allowed to take luggage that does not exceed 20 kg in weight. If there is a need to transport heavier things, you will have to find out in advance about such a possibility from the carrier, that is, the client may be denied this. One piece of luggage cannot exceed not only the weight of 32 kg, but also certain dimensions: 75 cm x 55 cm x 35 cm.

Air Berlin

This airline is not a low-cost airline in the literal sense. If you pay for your baggage in advance, you will need to pay € 15. When there is a need to pay for transportation directly at the airport, you will have to pay 30 euros before boarding the flight. It is also possible to carry baggage. One unit must be less than the maximum possible weight (23 kg). There is a FlyFlex option where you can take two pieces of baggage for free. If there is an overweight, a surcharge must be made. Depending on the selected package of services, you will have to pay an additional 50 or 100 euros for a one-way flight.

EasyJet

As for all things that are carried into the cabin with them, space is allocated for only one piece of baggage with dimensions strictly no more than 56 × 45 × 25 cm.The passenger must pay for standard baggage when purchasing a ticket, however, the total allowable weight of baggage per person in an airplane must not exceed 20 kg. You can immediately pay extra for the extra weight of your baggage, but you can carry no more than 32 kg in one cell. It should be borne in mind that it is not the number of bags that is calculated, but the total weight of things, which for many passengers is a convenient point of the rules. When passengers are traveling in pairs, the weight cannot be divided equally. They account for 40 kg together, and if necessary, you can fill two cells with bags of 18 kg and 20 kg.

RyanAir

This airline has introduced complex rules regarding payment and maximum allowable baggage weight. A passenger can take up to two items of things, but the cost of their transportation is calculated depending on the season, which can be high or low. The cost will differ if you decide to pay through the website when ordering tickets or at the airport itself.

If the season is low, then for the first piece of baggage each passenger is obliged to pay 15 euros, while the weight is no more than 15 kg. If the trip is carried out in high season, then you will have to pay 25 euros for the same weight. When the permissible weight of baggage on the plane is 20 kg, then for the first unit you will have to pay 25 euros or 35 euros - according to the season.

The second piece of baggage must be no more than 15 kg, and this seat can only be ordered through the website, by entering the Manage my booking section. You will have to pay an additional 40 euros during the low season, and when it is high, you will have to pay an additional 50 euros. You can take with you to the cabin a piece of hand luggage with a volume of 55 × 40 × 20 cm and weighing no more than 10 kg.

Aeroflot

The allowed weight of luggage on an Aeroflot aircraft is 23 kg if a person wants to carry luggage free of charge and flies in economy class. When measuring three sides of a bag, the total figures should not exceed 158 cm. The permissible weight of baggage on an Aeroflot aircraft when transporting items in hand luggage is 10 kg. The total figures when measuring the three sides of the bag should not exceed 115 cm.

"Transaero"

The allowed weight of baggage on a Transaero aircraft for charter flights is 20 kg, and for economy class - 25 kg. When a person gets into business class, he has the right to a baggage space where the load is no more than 30 kg.

One of the main concerns for tourists when traveling by plane is baggage. There are many stories that tell that luggage is often lost, and then either found after a long time, or disappears forever. If there are no problems with the luggage initially, there is a greater chance that things will not be confused.

Aeroflot has several specific restrictions on cargo transportation. Since the largest state-owned Russian air carrier has most of the leased aircraft, the owners of which register the winged aircraft offshore in Bermuda, Bermuda rules and restrictions must be observed on board. For example, there is a ban on smoking e-cigarettes in the cabin and carrying them in luggage.

Comrades passengers, abide by the Bermuda Rules on Aeroflot aircraft. :) There is nothing wrong with that, as most of Aeroflot's planes are new leased vehicles, not heavily used ones.

Aeroflot carry-on baggage rules

The rules for carrying hand luggage on Aeroflot aircraft are the most humane in comparison with other airlines. Most of the restrictions on the carriage of dangerous goods, which were described in the last post, also apply to Aeroflot.

Carry-on baggage weight on an Aeroflot plane

You can take on board up to 10 kilograms of hand luggage (for economy class passengers), and for business class passengers up to 15 kilograms.

Aeroflot carry-on baggage size

One piece of hand luggage, personal items and a so-called hand luggage accessory can be carried on board Aeroflot (I wrote about this in detail in the article about "Hand luggage on an airplane").

The total size of Aeroflot carry-on baggage should not exceed 115 cm (the sum of three measurements is 40 cm, width - 20 cm, length - 55 cm).

Additionally and completely free of charge (for Aeroflot passengers), you can carry the following items into the cabin:

  • handbag / men's briefcase;
  • folder for papers;
  • umbrella;
  • cane;
  • bouquet of flowers;
  • outerwear;
  • laptop computer, photo camera, camcorder;
  • baby food for the child during the flight;
  • a cradle when transporting a child;
  • suit in a garment bag;
  • cellular telephone;
  • crutches;
  • a bag with purchases from the Duty Free store.

Aeroflot's excess baggage rates

If you have exceeded the allowed weight or baggage size (even by a kilogram), then Aeroflot will require additional money from you, the amount of which will depend on the flight (within Russia and outside Russia).

If you exceed the permissible weight (from 23 to 32 kg.) Or overall dimensions (from 158 to 203 cm.) When flying within Russia, you will have to pay 50 euros and 100 euros / dollars if the flight is outside of Russia.

If you exceed the permissible weight (from 32 to 50 kg.) Or overall dimensions (more than 203 cm.) When flying within Russia, you will have to pay 100 euros and 150 euros / dollars if the flight is outside of Russia.

Siberia Airlines, also known as S7, has rules for carrying hand luggage on board similar to Aeroflot. S7 passengers are prohibited from transporting the following products of animal origin in the cabin: skins and furs, elephant tusks, etc. S7 passengers are prohibited from transporting dairy and meat products. The exception is baby food and food prescribed by a doctor for a passenger.

S7 passengers are prohibited from transporting (neither in carry-on baggage, nor in luggage) devices that contain lithium batteries; such cargo must be declared as a particularly dangerous cargo.

Carry-on baggage rules s7

An economy class passenger has 1 baggage space. For a business class passenger, 2 luggage spaces are allocated and a slightly larger weight of carry-on luggage.

On S7 aircraft, passengers are allowed (by prior agreement with the airline) to carry pets (cats, dogs, birds) in hand luggage. The carriage of animals is paid at the excess baggage rate based on the actual weight of the animal / bird together with the container (cage), regardless of the number of other things of the passenger.

To transport pets in the cabin of an aircraft, a number of rules must be followed:

  • it is required to have a vet. help;
  • the weight of the animal together with the container (cage) does not exceed 8 kg, and the overall dimensions of the cage in the sum of three dimensions do not exceed 115 cm, while the height of the container (cage) should not exceed 20 cm;
  • Guide dogs (accompanying blind passengers), carried in a muzzle and on a leash, there must also be a certificate of special training of the dog.

All other animals, whose weight and size exceed those indicated above, travel exclusively in the luggage compartment of the aircraft.

Carry-on baggage size s7

The carry-on baggage allowance on S7 Airlines flights is similar to that of Aeroflot and to those of most airlines. The size of hand luggage on board s7 (in the sum of three dimensions) must not exceed 115 centimeters (dimensions no more than 55x40x20).

In the check-in area of S7 Airlines flights, there are special limiting frames with which you can check whether the carry-on baggage meets the established dimensions.
