The best resorts in Montenegro for relaxation. The best resorts in Montenegro

Montenegro- Could the name of a resort country sound better? Hardly… Montenegro is her middle name. Intrigue, mystery, the aroma of spices of distant lands and adventures is heard in this word.

Montenegro is one of the youngest countries in the world. Montenegrins gained independence from Serbia in 2006. We can say with confidence that this benefited the state - from the depressed region of Yugoslavia, Montenegro has become the largest resort in the world, with a very attractive investment climate. What our compatriots confirm by buying up villas and apartments.

Resorts of Montenegro

Currently Montenegro resorts are very popular among Russian tourists. What is it that attracts tourists to rest in this country? Many reasons contribute to this. After all, here is ecologically clean nature, beautiful coasts with many bays and bays, numerous beaches, majestic black mountains and stormy rivers flowing in deep canyons, centuries-old olive groves and pine forests, medieval cities with interesting architecture and culture, in a word, everything to do unforgettable holidays in hotels or apartments.

The climate here is mild, hot, but not humid. In summer the temperature reaches +22-35 degrees. In the east, in mountainous areas, the air temperature fluctuates between +19-25 degrees. The water temperature in summer reaches +26 degrees.

The territory of Montenegro is divided into three parts: the coastal zone, the central part and the east with its beautiful mountain ranges. This geographical location and climate makes the local resorts unique. In this country, you can go skiing in the morning, and by lunchtime, after driving 100-120 km, sunbathe on the beach. Moreover, the infrastructure for winter tourism is developed no worse than in world-famous resorts, and mountain hotels in Montenegro are attractions in themselves. The cities of Kolasin and Zabljak specialize in winter tourism.

Montenegro is a small country, so the resort areas are located quite compactly. There are two airports in Montenegro, they are located in Tivat and Podgorica, and their location allows you not to spend a lot of time on the way to the hotel.

👁 Before we start... where to book a hotel? In the world, not only Booking exists (🙈 for a high percentage of hotels - we pay!). I have been using Rumguru for a long time

👁 And finally, the main thing. How to go on a trip, perfect without bothering? The answer is in the search form below! Buy . This is such a thing that includes flights, accommodation, meals and a bunch of other goodies for good money 💰💰 The form is below!.

Truly the best hotel rates

Despite its small size, Montenegro is striking in its diversity. Everything is here: the warm sea, the cleanest lakes and mountain rivers, the mountains that amaze with their beauty, majestic historical monuments and monasteries.

Isn't it a wonderful name for this Balkan country? And the country itself is beautiful. Balkan Switzerland, as Montenegro is often called because of the beauty of nature, enchants with the blue waters of its lakes and mountain streams, as well as hills that cannot be described. In Montenegro you will find the best conditions for a therapeutic holiday.

Do you know where Montenegro is located? Correctly. On the shores of the Adriatic Sea, which washes it from the southwest. Croatia borders Montenegro to the west, Kosovo to the east, Serbia to the northeast, Albania to the southeast, and Bosnia and Herzegovina to the northwest.

The state is amazingly diverse, so if you decide to relax here, you will never be upset or disappointed and will definitely find the place that you like.

Igalo

Do you want to take care of your health? Then the doors of the center with a beautiful name are open for you. Igalo". This is a very well-known medical and tourist complex in Montenegro with the most modern equipment. It will take care of you and surround you with attention. You will receive the help of highly qualified medical professionals. Treatment with mineral water and special sea muds are included in the physiotherapy procedures that are carried out in the center. Mineral water is called "Igalka". A procedure in which the entire body is under the beneficial influence of cold mineral radon baths is considered especially beneficial for health. Immunity, as it were, "cheers up", the body begins to work like clockwork.

Beach holidays in Montenegro

If the purpose of your visit to Montenegro is relaxation, swimming in the warm blue sea or a golden sandy beach where you can sunbathe, then there are three resort regions for you to choose from: Ultsinskaya, Budva or Hercegnovskaya riviera. Each of these areas has its own attractive features. Four resorts are part of the Hercegnovskaya Riviera: the famous Kotor, Tivat and Herceg Novi.

City of Kotor

The city of Kotor, founded in the era of Ancient Rome. Then it was called differently, Acrivius. Medieval Kotor is an independent city-state that was part of the Byzantine Empire and was very famous for its schools of masonry and iconography. During the Renaissance, it came under the rule of Venice. It continued until the very beginning of the nineteenth century. This was reflected in the unusual architecture of Kotor. The unique old spirit is preserved by many of its buildings. See the Cathedral of Saint Tryphon (protector and patron saint of Kotor) with preserved frescoes from the fourteenth century. This cathedral is one of those ancient buildings. It also houses a sacristy richly decorated with stones. Stones are, by the way, precious. The unique historical appearance of Kotor is created by such buildings as the magnificent Napoleonic Theater, ancient churches named after saints. One of them is in honor of St. Luke, and the other of St. Anne. And this is not all the old buildings in the city.

Resort Budva

The resort of Budva, which forms the Budva Riviera, deserves special attention. The city, considered the main seaside resort of this region, has three churches, a museum and a central square surrounded by the restored ramparts of the old fortress.

If Kotor is famous for its historical buildings, then Budva- great beaches. There are a great many of them in Montenegro, but sandy beaches are found only on the southern coast, namely in the Ulcinj and Budva rivieras. The sea coast of other regions of the country will delight you with pebble beaches, moreover, river and small pebbles, similar to buckwheat. Northwest coast (resorts Tivat, Igalo, Herceg Novi) is an area of only artificial beaches, which are concrete platforms. All of them are located in bays. Thus, they are protected from wind and waves. All this makes them incredibly comfortable for vacationers.

What else can you see in Montenegro? If you wish, you can visit the Ostrog Monastery, which is associated with the name of Vasily Ostrogsky, the protector and patron of Montenegro. Having visited this greatest Montenegrin shrine, which keeps the relics of St. Basil of Ostrog, you will often remember this place. Pilgrims (Catholics, Orthodox, Muslims) walk all the way from the Lower to the Upper Monastery.

Ski resorts in Montenegro

The ski resort with the cheerful name of Zabljak (the highest mountain resort in the Balkans) is the best place for those who like to ski down a steep slope. It is located on the Dormitor mountain range. It has everything you need to fully engage in skiing. Here you will see ski lifts, well-equipped ski slopes, as well as routes laid out for cross-country skiing competitions. Do you love freeride? All the possibilities for this are also present here. Another resort popular with tourists is Kolasin.

Dormitor

On the Dormitore just an abundance of wild animals, so hunting for a fox, a wolf, a wild boar and some other living creatures is allowed. In addition, you can go hiking. Glacial caves will give you the opportunity to admire the mountain lakes and marvel at their magnificent beauty. Do you like rafting on raging rivers? At Dormitor you will receive all the necessary equipment, and experienced instructors will accompany you.

You can visit any, even the most prestigious resorts in Montenegro, but never feel the soul of this country. So be sure to visit the town Cetinje located at the foot of the mountain Lovcen. It was this place that has always been the center of the struggle against the Turkish conquerors, and the organized struggle. This is what led to the fact that Lovcen and Cetinje began to symbolize love for their country, courage, honor, as well as Montenegrin nationality and Montenegro as a state.

👁 Do we always book a hotel on Booking? In the world, not only Booking exists (🙈 for a high percentage of hotels - we pay!). I have been using Rumguru for a long time, it is really more profitable 💰💰 Booking.
👁 And for tickets - in air sales, as an option. It has been known about him for a long time. But there is a better search engine - skyscanner - more flights, lower prices! 🔥🔥.
👁 And finally, the main thing. How to go on a trip, perfect without bothering? Buy . This is such a thing, which includes flights, accommodation, meals and a bunch of other goodies for good money 💰💰.

In 1960, it was refurbished into a new city hotel, owned by the famous artists Lubarba and Milunovic, who decided that this city could be a great holiday destination for tourists. This resort is located in the south of the country. Most of this town is occupied by soft sandy beaches, of which I would like to highlight the "Big Beach". The Ulcinj Riviera is famous for its very dry climate and wonderful sand, which, according to stories, has healing properties. The ancient city of Ulcinj can offer its tourists the exotic Shatsk Lake, as well as the Venice Chamber, the Old Town, the Balsic palaces and much, much more. Cozy Montenegro is an inexpensive and high-quality beach holiday on the Adriatic, Orthodox monasteries and medieval sights, lakes and national parks, the charming capital Podgorica and the resort Budva. All about Montenegro: weather, map, tours and prices.

  • Hot tours to Montenegro

Behind the romantic and exotic name of Montenegro lies a familiar Slavic soul - Montenegro. Small and friendly, this country is always popular primarily among fans of budget and eco-friendly holidays. And its similarity with the Crimea (although sometimes not with the best sides of the peninsula, for example, its hotel base) makes Montenegro homely and cozy.

Montenegro is chosen by unpretentious tourists who value rest alone with nature. Lovers of peace and quiet, families with children and those who do not want to spend all their savings on vacation will be satisfied with a trip to the country: prices in Montenegro are quite democratic. In addition, a truly warm welcome awaits nudists in the country, for whom special beaches and coastal complexes are equipped there.

Regions and resorts of Montenegro

Montenegro is very compact - in less than a day you can drive a car from one end of the country to the other.

The Budva Riviera is the tourist center of Montenegro with sandy beaches, impressive architecture and entertainment for every taste. The main resort of this area is Budva, one of the most respected cities on the Adriatic. Becici is very popular, which is 3 km from Budva. The city is known for its 2 km long pebble beach. Petrovac is a place in a bay with a red-pebble beach and a whole collection of ancient monuments. Sveti Stefan is the most prestigious Montenegrin resort built up with luxurious hotels. In the 15th century, a fortress was erected here to protect the city from pirates. In the middle of the 20th century, it turned into a chic hotel city where Hollywood stars love to relax.

Other resorts of the Budva Riviera: Rafailovichi, Milocer, Przhno, Bar, Sutomore.

Hercegnovskaya Riviera is located in the north of the Adriatic Sea. The largest resort in this area, Herceg Novi, is ideal for families. There is amazing nature and good boarding houses - many people come to Herceg Novi to improve their health. Another popular resort of the Gergegovskaya Riviera is Tivat. Montenegro begins with it for most tourists - one of the international airports is located here. The city cannot boast of ancient architecture and rich history. Guests are attracted by the mild climate, good beaches and developed infrastructure. At the peak of the season, Tivat is too crowded.

The Ulcinj Riviera is famous for its good and at the same time very democratic hotels, always sunny weather and basalt beaches. There are only 2 resorts here: Ulcinj itself and the colorful island of Ada Bojana - one of the most famous naturist vacation spots.

Two small ski resorts in Montenegro: Zabljak and Kolasin. The resort of Zabljak will not be boring even in summer. Tourists are offered a full range of activities here: from hiking tours and summer rafting to horseback riding and paragliding.

You can find a complete list of cities in the country on the page Cities and resorts of Montenegro.

Cuisine and restaurants

Montenegrin eateries can be safely divided into 2 categories: "local" taverns and tourist restaurants. The first ones serve traditional Montenegrin food, they cook deliciously and are not greedy - the portions in such establishments are simply huge. Secondly, the plates are smaller, the food is worse, but the terrace offers a wonderful view. Needless to say, it is worth getting acquainted with the traditional cuisine of Montenegro in those very simple family taverns. They are located in non-tourist places, away from the beach. The hosts, as a rule, cook themselves and serve the best "chorba" (soup from several types of fish) and "mesho meso" (meat platter) in the area. A hearty lunch will cost about 35-50 EUR for two.

Beach establishments usually have good fish dishes and Italian food. In Montenegro, Italian restaurants are generally very popular, and pizza in them is usually no worse than in Italy itself. In addition to pizzerias, Chinese and Thai establishments are common.

Montenegrin wines, although little known on international markets, are quite worthy of attention. The hallmark of local winemaking is the tart Montenegrin Vranac, as well as Krstach, Chardonnay and Sauvignon. The highest quality strong drink is Krunak (grape vodka).

Holidays and events

Montenegrins are big fans of festivals. Yes, so that with dances, songs and a mountain of food. In addition to traditional state and religious holidays like Christmas and New Year (by the way, the Old New Year is also celebrated here on a grand scale), many large and small festivals take place in different parts of the country. The main part of the national festivals falls just in time for the summer tourist season.

At the end of July, in the north-east of the country, in Plav, the blueberry festival begins and lasts exactly one week. In Tivat, in early August, a large olive fair opens. At the end of the month in Petrovac, they overeat with fish, drink wine and see off the summer. North of Petrovac, in Berane, meanwhile, there is a honey festival. And in the gastronomic village of Negushi, the end of August is the time for tasting cheese, prosciutto and other delicacies.

Montenegro is proud of its carnivals. The largest ones take place in February and August in Kotor. A little less - in April in Budva.

Almost every month is marked by a couple of cultural events: in April, theatergoers come to Herceg Novi. In Podgorica, around the same time, the international music festival A Tempo takes place. In May, a traditional television festival is expected in Bar. Summer in Budva is an international dance festival. Cetinje is known for its 4-day summer jazz festival. Every year Herceg Novi hosts a big film festival and a hip-hop festival. Both events are scheduled for August.

The largest sporting event is the Podgoritsky marathon, in which amateur athletes can take part. In winter, several ski festivals are held in Kolasin and Zabljak.

3 things to do in Montenegro

  1. Visit the artificially created island of Bogoroditsk-Shkrpjela, where there is a unique church.

  3. Defeat the feeling of hunger once and for all in the gastronomic paradise of the village of Negushi, which is famous for its especially fragrant cheeses and smoked pork hams. There is a abode of gluttons near the town of Cetinje.

Where to relax on the sea in Montenegro

All beach resorts in the country can be divided into two regions:

  • Adriatic sea resorts
  • Resorts of the Bay of Kotor

Tourists often ask themselves the question: where are the best places to stay in Montenegro - on the sea or in the bay?

It is difficult to answer unequivocally, since both resorts receive good reviews from tourists. The information in the following paragraphs will help you decide this question for yourself.

It is worth noting that the water in the sea is a little colder. The Adriatic coastline is better suited for swimming, in this part of Montenegro there are resorts by the sea with a sandy beach (there are also pebble beaches).

At the resorts of the Bay of Kotor most beaches are concrete and ill-equipped for swimming. The exception is the beaches in the vicinity of Tivat.

The most popular beach resorts in Montenegro:

  • Budva Riviera
    • Budva
    • Becici
    • Rafailovici
    • village of St. Stephen
  • Boka Kotorska Riviera:
    • Herceg Novi
    • Tivat
  • Ulcinj

The swimming season in the country lasts from mid-May to late October. The sea temperature ranges from 22 to 27 degrees.

Beach holidays in Budva

One of the best seaside resorts in Montenegro is the city of Budva, the main tourist center of the country.

People go to Budva for the sake of a large number of attractions, beautiful nature and landscapes. Another plus of this Montenegrin resort is a developed tourist infrastructure.

Budva is also popular among beach lovers. The city itself has six beaches covered with pebbles or sand on top of pebbles.

Photo: Budva resort, one of the beaches © James Abbott / flickr.com

Four of the six beaches are completely free (you can rent sun loungers and umbrellas if you wish), one of the beaches can only be accessed by renting sunbeds / umbrellas, and another one is available only for residents of Dukley Gardens apartments.

The most popular beaches in Budva:

  • Slavic
  • Mogren
  • Richard's head

Not far from the resort there are sandy beaches, about which tourists leave good reviews - Yaz-1 and Yaz-2, Trsteno. But relaxing on these beaches is only convenient if you rent a car.

Advantages of the beaches of Budva: the presence of entertainment, cafes, restaurants, bars, beach equipment. Most of the beaches are covered with small pebbles or sand.

Among the shortcomings, one can single out that in the high season it is very noisy here, a lot of people, sometimes it gets dirty. Tourists in search of solitude go to the wild sparsely populated beaches of the Budva Riviera - Golubin, Princess Glavitsa, Fractional sand.

Beach holidays in Becici

Becici is chosen by tourists who want a relatively quiet beach holiday, but at the same time prefer to be close to the entertainment of Budva. Many people choose Becici for holidays in Montenegro with children.

The village of Becici is located just 3-4 kilometers from Budva. The beach is covered with sand mixed with pebbles.

If you plan to go on vacation to Montenegro for a long time, keep in mind that in Becici all private housing is located on the second line (it takes 7-10 minutes to get to the beach). The first line is occupied by hotels, cafes and restaurants.

Rafailovici

The small village of Rafailovichi attracts lovers of a calm measured rest. It is located 1.5 km from Becici, so they have one beach for two.

The coastline is covered with coarse sand mixed with small pebbles.

You can come here at any time and enjoy the silence and magnificent scenery. Unlike Becici, in the village you can rent a hotel, apartment or villa right on the seashore.

Sveti Stefan village

Lovers of measured rest will also like the village of Sveti Stefan. Nearby is the island of the same name - one of the attractions of Montenegro.

The island of Sveti Stefan is the most expensive resort in Montenegro. You can get to its territory if you book a room at the Aman Sveti Stefan hotel.

In the very same village of Sveti Stefan, you can relax at quite reasonable prices. The beaches here are pebbly and less busy than in Budva. Even during the season there are not many tourists in the village. But the prices for food and accommodation are slightly higher than in other popular resorts in Montenegro.

The peculiarity of this village is that it is located on a hill, the houses are arranged in tiers. You have to go down the stairs to the beach. This may be inconvenient for the elderly and families with children.

The beaches of Herceg Novi

The resort of Herceg Novi is called the Botanical Garden of the country. It is calm and cozy, beautiful landscapes and nature. In the city you can find the rarest plants, an abundance of fruits and flowers.

Tourists note that sea holidays are possible here, but the beaches are worse than in Budva. In the city, the beaches are small and concrete, so many tourists prefer to relax outside the city.

A great place to relax near the city is Zhanitsa beach. The water here is very clean, the coast is covered with small pebbles. On the territory there are showers, changing cabins, sun loungers, umbrellas, cafes and eateries.

Another plus of this resort is the prices for food and meals in a cafe: in Herceg Novi they are much lower than in Budva.

Beach holidays in Tivat

Rest in Tivat is chosen by lovers of beautiful nature and silence. Housing, food and nutrition prices are much lower than in Budva.

There are few beaches in the city itself, and they are all concrete. But in the vicinity of Tivat there are many wonderful places for a beach holiday. The most popular are the sandy beach Donja Lastva, Opatovo.

Ulcinj

The southernmost resort in Montenegro. The climate here is warm, the swimming season lasts from early May to mid-November, it is very hot in the summer months.

In their reviews, tourists note that this is Ulcinj - a beautiful city with a resort atmosphere and friendly people.

Many tourists choose Ulcinj for a beach holiday - this one of the resorts in Montenegro by the sea with sandy beaches. Velika Plaža beach is considered the best and longest of them.

Prices in the city for accommodation and meals are much lower than in Budva.

Herceg Novi

The most popular sights are the Clock Tower, Cathedral of the Archangel Michael, Kanli-Kula Fortress, Savina Monastery.

The main attraction of the city is the Blue Cave. It got its name from the incredibly blue water that fills the cave. Its height is 25 meters, so you can swim here directly on the boat.

Perast

Perast is a small but expensive resort in Montenegro. Its uniqueness lies in the fact that all the buildings have retained their original appearance since the Middle Ages.

There is a law on the territory of the city, according to which the owners of buildings cannot change not only the appearance, but also the interior decoration.

Of the interesting places in Perast, churches, palaces, and the embankment can be noted. Everything is imbued with the spirit of antiquity. Some of the main attractions are the tower of St. Nicholas and the Church of Our Lady.

Where to go in Montenegro with children

Montenegro is one of the best places to relax with a child. Many tourists with children choose the country because of the beautiful environment, interesting excursions and a short flight.

The climate in Montenegro is mild, so children easily adapt to new conditions.

Most of the resorts where it is better to relax with children in Montenegro are located on the sea:

  • Becici
  • Rafailovici
  • Sveti Stefan
  • Ulcinj

Becici

The beaches in the village are clean and not crowded. The city and its surroundings are quiet and calm, so many tourists choose Becici for a family vacation at sea.

The beaches are sandy and pebbly, the water is clean and warm. On the beach, everything is calm and cultural, without fuss. In this resort of Montenegro there is all the necessary infrastructure for a holiday with a child: shops, children's entertainment and attractions. The Mideteran water park is the largest in the country.

Ulcinj

The city of Cetinje has a rich history. Here you can spend time on exciting excursions or on the cleanest beaches.

But the most interesting entertainment for children is the Lovcen Rope Park, where 5 different routes are available. It will be interesting to go through all the routes for both children and adults. Each route is aimed at children of different ages. And after a fun pastime, you can have a great rest in the nearest restaurant.

Other resorts in Montenegro for families with children

Rafailovici is another quiet place for a family vacation with good reviews from tourists. Hotels or a villa on the first line can be rented for a reasonable fee.

Sveti Stefan is also popular with tourists with a child. Some inconvenience may be experienced by parents with strollers, as you need to go down the stairs to the sea.

What resorts should not be chosen for families with children

Herceg Novi not suitable for families with small children, as you constantly need to climb stairs up or down the mountain. Especially inconvenient with strollers.

AT Budva you should also not go with children during the high tourist season: in summer it is noisy, there are a lot of people, the beaches are crowded. The noise of discos, bars does not stop all night. Budva is one of the best seaside resorts in Montenegro, but is not suitable for families with small children.
