Behavior rules
Tunisia is a Muslim country. While here, a tourist should follow generally accepted norms
behavior.
Clothing. You can wear light clothing in the resort areas. Women can relax topless on the tourist beach or by the hotel pool. But walking in shorts through the old quarters of Tunisia is not acceptable.
Prayer. If on the street you meet a kneeling person, then walk around him at a respectful distance. Try not to look at him during the prayer ritual.
Women. It is unacceptable to consider women in a burqa. You cannot photograph her without permission.
Alcohol. Do not drink alcoholic drinks from wine and beer bottles on the street.
Communication. During a conversation, try not to speak too loudly, do not make scandals on the street or in hotels.
Greeting. When visiting a hotel or shop, it is customary to greet people passing by you. You can greet in any language. You will be understood and answered in kind.
Fruit. If you pass by orange, lemon or olive groves, then you can pick the fruits only with the permission of the watchman.
Ramadan. During this religious holiday, refrain from eating, drinking and smoking on the streets of the city. Do not invite Tunisians to drink or smoke - this is prohibited. In restaurants
you are free to drink alcoholic beverages, while you will be served politely by a fasting waiter.
Bargain. In Tunisia, you can bargain everywhere, except for shops with price tags on the goods.
Safety. In crowded places, be careful - pickpockets operate here.
Photography. Filming and photographing of official buildings is prohibited. Before filming local residents, ask them for permission.
Prostitution. Tunisia is the only Muslim country where abortion is allowed, brothels are controlled by the state, and prostitution is legalized.
Men. The male population in Tunisia wears a bunch of jasmine behind their ear. If the flower is on the right side, then the man is married, if on the left - single. Tourists are not recommended to repeat this tradition.
Rules of conduct at the table. You can't look into the face of a person who is eating. Eat while standing or walking. In Tunisia, it is not customary to drink fatty foods with water.
