Surin Beach, Phuket is another wonderful beach on the island. Surin Beach in Phuket

Surin Beach in Phuket is located in the north of the island between two other beaches - Kamala and Bang Tao. Surin Beach is not as large and famous as the main beaches of Phuket, but nevertheless there are many vacationers on it. We like Surin for its clear sea and gorgeous views.

Surin Beach: beach and sea

Surin Beach has been improved and landscaped. It’s not difficult to notice this when approaching the coast. There is everything you need for relaxation - umbrellas and sunbeds in the form of mats, massage parlors, retail outlets, water activities, inexpensive Thai cafes and decent restaurants.

The road to the beach from the highway. On the right side there is a small temple, greenery and flowers everywhere

The sandy beach stretches for about a kilometer. In the winter high season there are quite a lot of people, but there is room for everyone. You can always find shade under the palm trees near the embankment, so those who like fair skin will have a place to hide their bodies from the sultry Phuket sun.

Surin beach Phuket

The beach is not as noisy as on the beach; the music from the cafe even adds some zest to the overall background. In the northern part of the beach you can take beautiful photographs on large rocks.

Pansy Beach

Behind these rocks and a small mountain is the only private beach in Thailand - Pansi. We wanted to go through it, but the guards didn’t let us through. Only tourists from two prestigious hotels rest there - The Surin (Сhedi) And Amanpuri.

Beach cleanliness

The beach is very clean. Although there are practically no garbage containers anywhere. Apparently, tourists vacation here decently and take everything with them.

Sand

The sand is fine and soft, not snow-white, but rather light than yellow. Walking barefoot is a pleasure.

Sea and waves in Surin

Surin is an ambiguous beach in this regard. We have been there more than once and on some days the waves are huge, and sometimes there are no waves at all. And the water in the sea is the purest and most transparent even during waves.

Perfect, flawless, amazing

The water can be so calm that the next time you come here, you no longer believe your eyes when such gigantic waves hit the beach.

Some waves are so high that I am scared to go into the water, I can hardly run up to my knees.

Surin: video with big waves

Tourists

During the peak season, December and January, there are many tourists. But in September and October there are only one or two holidaymakers. In contrast, there are unfortunately few Russian travelers this year. Most often we hear German speech, sometimes English.

Umbrellas and sun loungers on the beach

There are plenty of umbrellas and sunbeds. But more precisely, not sunbeds, but mats. The same system works here as on most Phuket beaches - for 200 baht you can get a set of two mattresses and an umbrella for the whole day.

Positioning yourself on the mats is not a problem. Fee 200 baht per set

You can lay out your towels on the beach and in the shade under the palm trees. No one will drive you away and ask you to pay for a “chaise lounge”.

Merchants

Of course, there are traders, but here they don’t bother us at all. They come up from time to time, you can go unnoticed for several hours. In any case, there is no such thing that they will stand in front of you and not leave until you say “no” ten times. Unobtrusive.

Beach activities

All vacationers are offered popular entertainment in Phuket - parachute flight and jet skis. You can also rent a surfboard. Not to say that there is a lot of entertainment here.

Where can I order a transfer from the airport?

We use the service - KiwiTaxi
We ordered a taxi online and paid by card. We were met at the airport with a sign with our name on it. We were taken to the hotel in a comfortable car. You've already talked about your experience In this article.

Cafes, restaurants and where to eat in Surin

This is where the Surin area differs from other beaches, as there are cafes and restaurants to suit every taste and budget. Right near the shore there are stylish restaurants, several bars with pleasant music, where you can drink something delicious. The prices are high, but the interior and sea view are worth the extra price on vacation.

For those who want to spend less money, there are mid-level establishments where visitors can eat European and Thai cuisine almost on the beach in several coastal cafes. The level is a little simpler, the tables and chairs are older, the prices are 2 times lower.

Well, the most budget option is makashnitsa equipped as a cafe. Everything is neat and clean, there is always a free table in the shade under an umbrella. Their prices are even cheaper. Prices per dish start from 80 baht in high season and 50 baht in low season.

Only in this cafe you can try an exotic cocktail - Lime Shakes!!!

Surin reviews

Surin Beach will definitely not leave you indifferent. Surin receives positive feedback from us. Exotic views, mountains, palm trees on the shore, lovely white sand, clean clear water. Cafes, restaurants and massage parlors are nearby. The sounds of music can be heard in the distance.

Here you can swim with pleasure, since the depth begins almost immediately, the sunset is pleasant and the bottom is sandy. But if you don’t like waves like me, then not all days will be comfortable for swimming. Perhaps if you come early in the morning, around eight o’clock, there won’t be any waves. And if the waves don’t bother you too much, then Surin beach will definitely be the place you won’t want to leave.

How to get there

You can order a transfer from the airport follow this link →

From Phuket Town you can get to Surin by blue bus labeled Phuket - Bangtao - Surin - Kamala. The bus starts from the bus station on Ranong Road. Travel time 1 hour. The fare is 40 baht. It takes 3 minutes to walk from the highway to the beach, which is very convenient.

There is no direct bus from Patong, Karon and Kata; you can only get there with a transfer in Phuket Town. The easiest way to get there is from Kamala and Bangtao. In Kamala, you need to take a bus towards Phuket town, and get off after the mountain pass, when you see the beach and the blue Surin beach sign on the left. From the Bangtao area you need to take a bus towards Kamala or walk.

We advise you to arrive at the beach as early as possible, as buses back to the town are very poor. Officially the last bus is at 15.30 from Kamala, which means it will be here around 4. We once tried to leave at 4 p.m., waited a whole hour and ended up taking a taxi. Therefore, you should arrive to the beach early and leave after lunch before 3 p.m.

Surin Beach is one of the beaches of Phuket, located in the central part of the island on the western coast of the Andaman Sea of the Indian Ocean, between the beaches and.

On both sides, Surin Beach is separated by green hills (capes), near which there are stones in the water, sometimes even large boulders, near which you can go snorkeling.

The beach itself is small, only about 1 kilometer long, but quite wide and sandy. The sand on the beach is fine and pleasant to the touch, white-yellow in color, depending on what angle and what weather you look at it from.

The beach is quite clean. The beach strip is landscaped and landscaped. In search of shade, you can rent a sun lounger, in the form of mats, and a sun umbrella. Price for two sun loungers and an umbrella - 200 baht/day. Or, find natural shade coming from the trees growing along the perimeter of the beach.

The entrance to the sea is gentle, the bottom is sandy, and the depth does not come immediately. The presence of waves depends on the weather; on days of big waves, the bottom becomes uneven, in small holes.

For beach and water activities: you can ride a banana boat or a jet ski. Relax under the nimble hands of Thai ladies by ordering a massage right on the beach.

One of the advantages of Surin Beach is that there is no road running along the beach.

Many people call this beach a fabulous place and the best beach in Phuket. An ambiguous statement, the beach is certainly not bad, but we didn’t notice anything special and attractive about it. This is, rather, one of those Phuket beaches, without charm, that do not evoke emotions and are not remembered for anything (good or bad).

Infrastructure near Surin Beach

In the shade of the crowns of trees and palm trees, along the line of yarn, there is something like an embankment. Here you can escape the heat, take a walk and have a snack. Along the embankment you can see many makashnitsa.

Once upon a time, this place housed cafes and restaurants overlooking the sea and the beach, where you could sit and have a snack, and in the evening music played and life was in full swing. Currently, all of them have been dismantled, and the embankment has become practically deserted. Perhaps it is for this reason that the beach has become less crowded, quieter and calmer.

Approximately in the middle of the beach, near the embankment and the road leading from the beach to the highway, there is a small Thai Temple.

Behind the temple, along the beach, there is a fairly large piece of empty space.

To the right of the temple there is a cluster of outlets, tables for eating and places where you can park. Although currently they park along the entire embankment.

Behind the temple, if you follow the route along which the only bus goes - Bang Tao - Surin - Kamala, you can see the stadium

Here, almost immediately after the stadium, Soi Hat Surin 8 meets the highway and goes to the left. There are a few hotels and cafes on the street, as well as 7-Eleven and FamilyMart stores.

About 600 meters from the beach, along the main road towards Bang Tao, is The Plaza Surin shopping center. There are also cafes, retail outlets, hotels, shops, ATMs, exchange offices and a Tesco express supermarket.

Currently, repairs and reconstructions are underway in many places in Surin. They are building something, updating it. You can see this on the embankment, also near the temple and on the roads. Soon, something will change in Surin, it will be transformed and sparkle with new colors, and nice cafes will again appear on the embankment overlooking the beach and the breath of the sea breeze, from which music will be heard. And then, you and I, will see the new Surin and, perhaps, this beach will rightfully take one of the first places in the list of the best beaches in Phuket.

How to get to Surin Beach

Several hotels are located near the highway/main road.

Of all the beaches in Phuket, we liked Surin Beach the most. I consider it the best beach on the island. We lived between and, but when we rented a car, we often went to Surin. In the morning, Surin Beach is especially beautiful - quiet, bright, deserted. You feel like a movie hero Blue Lagoon.

Why Surin?

There are at least three reasons why you should choose Surin Beach for a beautiful holiday.

  1. Surin has the same snow-white sand that many people go crazy about. You can understand why. Blue sky, blue clear water and white sand combine to create a truly heavenly picture. Bounty is resting. There’s really one “but” – there aren’t really any palm trees. But even without them, Surin is amazingly beautiful.
  2. Surin has a clear sea. The sea in Phuket is clean and transparent almost everywhere, especially in season, but in Surin it is special. The water is an incredible color – soft turquoise and lazy, light waves. The entry into the sea is gentle, it is safe to relax with children.
  3. Surin is located off the road. To get to it, you need to go down the road. There is no noise, no dust, and not many people either. Can't compare with Patong or Karon.

Where is Surin and how to get there

Surin is located between Kamala and Bang Tao beaches. If you are coming from Patong, slow down after Kamala and follow the signs. The turn to Surin will be shortly after Kamala, after descending from the hill to the left. There you drive along the road, and soon you will run into the beach. In the south, Surin Beach borders Laem Singh Beach. This is a small, beautiful beach. There is a good view of it from the observation deck. You can also get to Laem Singh from Surin by sea.
To the north behind the hill is Pansea Beach. It is unlikely that you will be able to get there. Pansea is a private and very very expensive beach, it is also called the beach of millionaires. Strangers are not allowed there. But if you are a millionaire, welcome!

From Patong or Karin, a taxi ride to Surin will cost an average of 500 baht. One way! Have I already mentioned that taxis in Phuket are outrageously expensive? It is more profitable to rent a bike. Yes, it’s even cheaper to rent a car.

Entertainment in Surin

In Surin, in the residential part there are many cafes, restaurants, shops, everything is as usual. There are scooter and parachute rentals on the beach. Along the road, under the trees, there are local sellers of kebabs, juices and fruits. Prices, as elsewhere in Phuket, are no more expensive than on Karon. But you shouldn’t go to Surin for entertainment. The greatest pleasure you will get at Surin Beach is from the sea. If you take a mask and swim to the rocks to the north, you can snorkel, there are fish there.

Hotels on Surin Beach

Hotels in Surin are not cheap. This is understandable, the place is very convenient and picturesque. In addition, the beach is small, only about 1000 m. Therefore, you cannot put many hotels there, and of course their prices are above average.

Its length is about 800 meters, width - up to 55 meters. The shore is covered with fine light sand. The water here is clear and turquoise in color.

Surin Beach is popular among Russian tourists and is distinguished by its versatility: those who are accustomed to a calm and measured pastime at the resort, party lovers (clubs and bars are open from November to May), surfers and couples in love relax here. There are also quite a lot of locals on the beach.

However, while sunbathing and swimming in the sea, one should not forget that the sun in Southeast Asia in general and in Thailand in particular is very active, so it is quite easy to get sunburned or get sunstroke here. You can protect yourself by hiding in the shade, wearing hats and using sunscreen with a high UV protection index.

Lifeguards are always on duty on the beach. During the monsoon season, which lasts in Phuket from May to October, high waves occur on the beach. At this time, surfers from all over the world flock to Surin Beach. Skiing equipment can be rented (the rental price is constantly changing, so it makes sense to find out about it on the spot). If you don’t know how to skate, local instructors will help you master the board.

From October to April, when the sea in these places is calmest, snorkeling is one of the main entertainments on Surin: snorkelers admiring the underwater world prefer to dive in the waters off the northern part of the beach. The necessary equipment can be rented from local instructors or purchased at nearby shops. There are many amazing fish swimming near the shore, and in the evenings you can even meet reef sharks, which, despite their threatening appearance, are completely safe for humans.

You can also go diving. It is recommended to do this near the reefs, as there are quite a lot of marine life of the most bizarre shapes there. You can see moray eels, barracuda, starfish, numerous crustaceans including lobsters and so on.

Every year, the infrastructure of Surin is developing: cafes and restaurants serving local and European cuisine are opening next to the sandy beach, and new hotels are being built. It's fun here at any time of year or day. Of course, Surin is one of the most popular beaches in Phuket (both among tourists and local residents).

During the high season, you can stay on the shore with your own equipment and completely free of charge (free admission), or rent a sun lounger under a beach umbrella, the cost per day is standard - 100 baht (subject to change, check on the spot). In terms of our money, this is about 200 rubles. Quite inexpensive, especially compared to European beaches.

Hotels near Surin Beach

A few meters from the beach there are four- and five-star hotels, villas, and apartments. Surin Beach hotels on the first line are especially popular among family vacationers. The price depends on the level of the hotel. In general, in Surin there are luxury hotels with the highest level of service (and cost) and inexpensive economy class hotels.

All accommodation options are available on the map below:

Reviews of Surin Beach in Phuket

Tourists who have visited Surin Beach, first of all, note the sometimes strong waves (but this is also an advantage, especially for those who are fans of surfing), and secondly, the abundance of greenery along the coast.

Surin Beach is one of the most picturesque in Phuket and is a great place for beach photo shoots. The roadway is separated from the shore by deciduous and coniferous trees; you can sit on the sand and at the same time hide in the shade.

Vacationers also write about the cleanliness of the water and the well-groomed area of the beach itself. When there are no waves, you can also relax here with children. The entrance to the sea is gentle, the depth increases gradually, there are no sharp changes.

Some write about incredibly beautiful sunsets, and those who wake up early can look forward to a truly natural light show featuring the sun, sky and sea in the morning at dawn.

You can learn in detail about the features of a holiday on Surin Beach in high and low seasons from reviews of Surin Beach and hotels nearby - materials from Turister.Ru users.

How to get to Surin Beach

You can get to the beach by public bus (for example, from Kamala Beach) or by taxi. The cost of a taxi fare from Phuket airport is 450-600 baht according to the meter (900-1200 rubles at the current exchange rate), from Patong - at least 500 baht (respectively, 1000 rubles). If you are driving without a meter, be careful, the taxi driver can name any amount upon arrival at your destination. It makes sense to negotiate in advance (plus, no one has canceled reasonable bargaining; it works in Thailand).

You can get from the city center by bus; the cost of the ticket will depend on the transport company, but it is always cheaper than taking a taxi.

Thai buses are called songthaews. These are not too big open blue vans with benches inside. When it rains, buses are covered with awnings. Such cars drive slowly and stop very often to pick up and drop off passengers, so a journey of just 10 km can take you more than 30 minutes. To exit anywhere, you need to press the bell button inside the body. It is customary to give money to the driver upon exit.

Nearby is the sandy beach of Bang Tao, which can be reached in 20 minutes or by local tuk-tuk or rented scooter (rental 200 baht/day). There is ample parking space near the resort shore.

Another option to get to the beach is by water. So, on the neighboring beaches you can rent a boat or kayak and try to get to Surin Beach by water. The cost will be higher than if you get there by land, but the experience will be much greater.

A convenient option for those who are used to planning everything in advance is a transfer to Surin Beach from the KiwiTaxi service:

I’ll tell you about one of my favorite beaches in Phuket – Surin beach. I don’t know why my love for this beach is connected, because it doesn’t have the infrastructure I need, but for some reason the Surin scourge sunk into my soul :) Perhaps because it was the first beach we visited when we arrived in Phuket after wintering in, and perhaps because it is quite sparsely populated, especially compared to the southern beaches of the island... This article contains a description, infrastructure, hotels, reviews and photos of Surin beach.

Surin Beach is one of my favorite beaches in Phuket!

Description of the beach

Surin Beach Phuket A small beach by Phuket standards in the north-west of the island. Exact location of the beach. It is located between two other popular beaches: Bang Tao Beach on the north side and on the south side. Between Surin Beach and Kamala Beach there is a small bay in which it is hidden (at the moment you can only get to it by sea), and between Surin and Bang Tao the Pansea Surin Beach, on which the only hotel is located (you can only get to this beach through hotel or along the stones from the northern part of Surin Beach). On both sides of the bay there are picturesque mountains, stones and rocks.

The northern part of Surin beach, there is another beach behind the cape, which belongs to an expensive hotel

A few years ago, Surin Phuket beach was one of the comfortable places for beach and evening relaxation, there was a popular beach club called Catch beach club, and vacationers from neighboring beaches came for dinner to nice restaurants on the seashore.

Surin had all the beach infrastructure: sun loungers, umbrellas, showers, toilets. But one day the island’s government decided to remove the tourist infrastructure from Surin Beach and create a park next to the beach dedicated to the King of Thailand. But something went wrong... the infrastructure was demolished, but the park was never organized :) Now the surroundings of the beach do not look very presentable, although many say that now the beach looks natural and natural :)

Once upon a time there were good restaurants and beach clubs in Surin, now there is none of this...

Beach, shade, sea, waves

The beach strip of Surin Beach is not very long by Phuket standards, only about 800 meters (this is not the neighboring multi-kilometer Bang Tao beach :) The beach is wide, lush vegetation grows along the sea: casuarinas, some deciduous trees, and in the southern part of the beach there is a picturesque palm grove. Due to the fact that Surin Beach is wide and faces west, there is natural shade from trees only in the first half of the day, and even then there is not much of it; most of the beach strip is under the sun.

Surin Beach is located in a bay, its length is about 800 meters
Quite long and wide Surin beach
The trees grow far from the water's edge, the beach faces west, so there is natural shade here only until lunchtime; shady areas should be occupied early in the morning :)

The sand is a beautiful beige color and quite fine. The water in the sea is clear, on a sunny day a very beautiful turquoise color (almost like). Entry into the sea is very comfortable: there are no stones, shells, algae or other natural debris on the surf line. The depth increases gradually, but rather spasmodically: shallow, deep, shallow again :)

Fine clean sand
The color of the water in the sea is like on the neighboring islands :)
Transparent and gentle sea

In the low season from May to October there are strong waves on Surin Beach, but in winter the sea may or may not be rough :) In January-February last year we observed complete calm on Surin Beach, but this season at the same time time on the beach there are small pleasant waves.

January 2017 - complete calm!
January 2019 - waves!

Surin Beach infrastructure

At the moment, there are no sun loungers or umbrellas on the sand on Surin Beach, unlike many other beaches in Phuket! From time to time, mattresses and areas for rent appear on the beach (200 - 300 baht per couple), beach chairs and inflatable mattresses are also rented. Merchants walk along the beach offering to buy an inflatable “sofa” lamzak.

Periodically, mattresses and umbrellas appear on the beach for rent
These folding beds are also available for rent
You can buy an inflatable “sofa” Lamzak

There are sunbeds on a hill in the southern part of Surin Beach (if you look at the sea, on the left). The cost of a sunbed is 150 baht (on most other beaches in Phuket 100 baht).

Sunbeds on a hill at the southern end of the beach

In this same part of the beach there are only two stationary cafes overlooking the sea. And every morning, on the path along the sea, numerous bowls with food and drinks are laid out.

  • Coconut – 50 baht – 60 baht

  • Pancakes – 50 baht – 60 baht
  • Dishes with rice and chicken/pork – 150 baht
  • Pad Thai – 80 baht – 120 baht
  • Beer from 60 baht
  • Glass of wine – 100 baht

On the beach in two places I saw improvised showers with fresh water. One shower in the southern part of the beach near a hill with sun loungers. “Shower” is not its exact name: in this case it’s just a barrel of fresh water, you need to shower yourself from a ladle. Another shower on the path near the makashnitsy in the northern part of the beach. Cost 20 baht. There is a toilet for 10 baht in the cafe.

You can get a massage near the beach, the prices are higher than, for example, on the neighboring Kamala beach or in a normal salon in Central Festival:

  • Thai massage – 400 baht
  • Foot massage – 400 baht
  • Facial massage – 500 baht
  • Coconut oil massage – 500 baht

Fun on Surin Beach

Fortunately, there are no water activities on Surin Beach :) You can’t ride a jet ski or parasail here, you can swim completely safely, knowing that no one will run over or fall on your head :)

There is also no normal snorkeling on Surin beach, although people swim near the rocks with masks - what they are watching there is a mystery to me... For good snorkeling, you need to go to other islands of Thailand, for example, or at least to.

There are no water activities on Sirin, but there is a horse that you can ride :)

Cleanliness and crowd at Surin Beach

If we talk about the cleanliness of the beach, then in the high season (winter) the beach is quite clean and well-groomed. But in the summer, the beach is not cleared of debris that is washed ashore by the waves 🙁 In the off-season (September - October), Surin Beach also cannot boast of cleanliness.

There are more and more people on the beach every year. If previously it was mainly Europeans who vacationed in Surin, this season there are a lot of Russian-speaking families with children. In general, it’s kind of a full house in Phuket now, this wasn’t the case last year!

In recent days, numerous buses have been spotted in Surin bringing tourists to the beach!

Thais also love relaxing on Surin Beach, who come here on weekends or on weekdays in the late afternoon, lay out their rugs and eat and eat :)

There are few people on Surin beach in October, but the beach at this time is not very clean...
That's how many people are at sea in Surin in January!

Infrastructure of the Surin Phuket region

Along the beach strip of Surin Beach there is a small, not very well-groomed path, on one side of which there are shops, and on the other, bikes are parked. You can park your car either in the center at the entrance to this path or on the right in the large field.

The path along the sea in Surin is filled with mucks and bikes
Path along the sea

The main road runs 200 meters from the beach. There are 24-hour 7 Helen and Family stores, cafes, massage parlors, and hotels. There is a Tesco Express store 600 meters from the sea, along the road they sell fruit and other small items. The nearest Super Chip store is 2 km from the beach.

A large Tesco supermarket is located about 3 km from Surin Beach in Bang Tao, where there is also an evening market. Villa Market is approximately 5 km away.

Surin Beach Hotels

Speaking about hotels on Surin Beach, it should be noted that on the very seashore (on the first line) there are no hotels. Basically, all the hotels are located on the road, which runs 200 m from the beach, and to get to the beach you have to walk along not very well-maintained paths.

Excellent hotel for families with children, 200 m from the beach

BUT: in the southern part of the beach on a hill there is a hotel with a luxurious panoramic pool and rooms with sea views. There are stairs leading to the beach. We can say that this is a hotel on Surin beach on the first line :)

Surin Beach reviews

Usually, when I write my reviews about beaches, I consider both the beach strip and the area nearby (for example, my favorite - I like both the beach itself and the area with all the infrastructure next to it :)). In the case of Surin Beach, I want to separate my review and highlight Surin Beach itself and the surrounding area.

We really like Surin Beach for its relative uncrowding, clean sand, beautiful color of the sea, and pleasant water.

But the Surin beach area didn’t really impress me... it feels kind of neglected and unkempt :)

Surin Beach is suitable for a quiet, relaxing holiday, a family holiday and for families with children. Party-goers will be bored here, although there are several beach clubs very close, for example Catch beach club in Bang Tao and Café Del Mar in Kamala.

There are large stones in the water in the center of the beach; you need to swim to the right or left of them
In the off-season the beach is almost empty
The sea here is quite deep, so the ebb and flow of the tides are not particularly noticeable, i.e. You can swim comfortably even during low tides
