Not only tourists flock here, but also residents of Kuopio. Walking around the bazaar and choosing fresh products from local farmers, buying the morning catch - this is the joy of a metropolitan person, but the most valuable thing is the handicraft products. If you don't get tired of trading quickly, you can continue your route to Pikku Pietari Lane; paintings and handicrafts are sold in the old premises.

It was founded in 1957, the building itself was built 12 years later. In addition to icons, you will see liturgical textiles and sacred objects from the Valaam and Konevets monasteries.

Despite the fact that the museum has been operating quite recently, it contains objects dating back to the 17th-19th centuries.

Another important event in the city that Finns love so much is wine festival. Unfortunately, the northern people cannot boast of an abundance of grapes on an industrial scale, although they greatly respect this drink. The invited countries at the festival already included Spain, Austria, Hungary, Brazil, California, and Greece. The event is paid - 25 euros for one day, and only persons who have reached the age of majority are allowed.

Violetta Dmitrieva

Kuopio is considered a port city, and this is not surprising, since it is almost completely surrounded by a lake, and what was not captured by the lake was taken over by forest. The nature here is stunning, and the city is literally surrounded by a riot of greenery. The city was founded in 1775 and since then, although a lot has changed, you can still find sections of roads made of paving stones and other echoes of those distant times.

Currently, the population of this city is approximately ninety-three thousand citizens, and I can tell you this is not even a small number. Kuopio attracts both ski tourists and residents of this country, who have chosen this place for seasonal holidays and 5,100 cottages have appeared in the city for temporary summer holidays. In fact, it is a kind of holiday town.

In Kuopio, you can improve your health in the thermal center, or you can visit the dance festival, which has been held here annually since 1970. The city's embankment is most conducive to leisurely walks.

By the way, in Kuopio there is an old water tower that has been converted into a restaurant. I definitely advise you to visit this catering establishment, since the view from the height of this tower - restaurant, is simply magnificent and you no longer know whether to look around or wield a fork in the plate.

It must be said that transport in Finland is quite expensive. From Joensuu to Kuopio there are only 150 kilometers, and the ticket price is 25 euros, that is, about a thousand rubles. When purchasing tickets at the bus station in Joensuu, a funny incident occurred. Approaching the ticket office, I asked in English for tickets to Kuopio, and from Kuopio in a few hours we had to go to Nurmes. In general, young people in Finland communicate well in English, but the guy at the checkout was even worse at it than I was. After several attempts to understand what exactly I needed, the guy asked in desperation: “Or maybe you speak Russian?” He is not Russian, but he speaks and understands our language quite well, in any case definitely better than in English. Accordingly, we quickly understood each other and a few minutes later we were rushing across the Finnish expanses by bus.

The city of Kuopio is the capital of the province of Northern Savonia, slightly larger than Joensuu. As we were told, Finnish cities are very similar to each other. This turned out to be partly true, but not so much that it was uninteresting to walk around a new city. So, we arrived at the bus station.

The train station is also located nearby.

Probably the most beautiful building in the city is the town hall. Its facade faces the shopping area, and if you walk from the stations, you first see the back part. Let's not break the chronology and first go from the rear

There is some kind of monument to young people here

This sculpture is called "Compound Interest". But this is a literal translation of the inscription on the monument; most likely there is some other interpretation. Further, if I understand correctly, it is written “to the shoemakers who founded the national trading society.”

This is even more difficult to understand. Either modern art or a capsule in which astronauts descend)) But, given that the Finns have not yet flown into space, it’s more likely the former

Nearby are shopping centers. By the way, there are large centers in Finland even in very small towns

And we go out to the shopping area and here we already see the facade of the town hall

We were a little unlucky, since one of the symbols of Kuopio - the indoor market, built at the end of the 19th century in the Art Nouveau style, was under reconstruction and remained in this form

Let's take a short walk away from the square. Museum of Art

We approached the Lutheran Cathedral

The cathedral was open, so we went inside

Another example of how technological progress serves the benefit of the church. However, I didn’t pick up the phone, so I don’t even know what it’s all for. Not otherwise, a direct connection with God

It was also the first time I saw a church with a free public toilet.

This is the view from the church door

There is this building nearby. Judging by the sign, something related to security

Monument to the writer Johan Wilhelm Snellman

A hundred meters away there is a school named after Snellman

Kuopio City Museum

Judging by the anchor we are approaching the port

This is, so to speak, a port station

And these, as I understand it, are port warehouses

Views of Lake Kallavesi

Ships in port awaiting imminent defrosting

Another evolution option

Parking meter. Parking prices, as you can see, are also draconian.

It seems like there are Sokos hotels in every Finnish city

Memorial to fallen soldiers. There is a park around the monument

And a few more photos from the city streets without further ado)

After all the walking around the city, we still had an hour of time left and we decided to devote it to a hike to the Puyo Tower. Now it is a television tower, plus there is a restaurant on a rotating platform. It’s only about two kilometers from the bus station to the tower, but most of this route is uphill, so we almost missed the bus. Of course, we didn’t have time to climb it, but we still saw the tower up close, after which we boarded a bus that took us to Nurmes. But more on that in the next story.

Kuopio is the capital of the province of Northern Savonia in Finland. The main attraction of the city is the stone Tuomlokirkko Cathedral, built in 1815. Also in Kopio is the main Orthodox cathedral of Finland - St. Nicholas Cathedral.

There are several interesting museums in Kopio. The Cathedral of St. Nicholas is the largest museum of Orthodoxy in Western Europe; the Museum Quarter is interesting, where you can see models of houses of different times and classes, the Art Museum, the Automobile Museum, etc.

The Museum of Urban History in Kuopio is also interesting. The museum is part of the Kuopio Museum Centre. It is located in a house that was previously the dwelling of a priest. Before this, the building was a cowshed. In the museum you can look at exhibits of cultural and historical heritage, including those created by hand. There are also exhibits of cattle breeding, fishing, and wartime school items.

The main purpose of creating the museum is to demonstrate the background, history, life and culture of the city of Kuopio and Northern Savonia. The museum was founded in 1884.

Local History Museum in Kuopio

The local history museum in Kuopio is focused on the nature of North-Western Europe. But the collections are dominated by exhibits from eastern Finland. The collection of the Kuopio Regional Museum was established in 1887 when Benjamin Stalberg donated three stuffed owls to the new museum.

In 1901, A. Yu. Mela supported the new collection by donating his specimens of plants, minerals, insects, birds and eggs. When the building for the museum was ready, in 1907, the Kuopio Naturalists Society began collecting materials for the collection and organized the first exhibition.

Collections of exhibits continued until 1960. By this time, the museum's collection already included about 1,500 vertebrates, 22,000 insects and eggs of 300 different species of birds.

What sights of Kuopio did you like? Next to the photo there are icons, by clicking on which you can rate a particular place.

Lake Keitele

Lake Keitele is the ninth largest lake in Finland. It is located in the center of the country, 77 kilometers from the city of Kuopio, and has an area of about 500 square kilometers. The towns of Äänekoski and Viitasaari are located on the shores of the lake.

The lake is characterized by open waters and large islands, and the water basin stretches from northwest to southeast and is a legacy of the Ice Age. Bays with beautiful and lush greenery, rocky shores - these are the landscapes on Lake Keitele. And the shores seem pristine and untouched, due to the fact that there are few cottages and other buildings here. Lake Keitele is distinguished, importantly, by its excellent water quality.

The shipping canal, built twenty years ago and connecting Lake Keitele with another lake, Päijänne, has provided great opportunities for lovers of water tourism. Since then, cruises have been held on lakes and canals to introduce those interested to the amazing and beautiful country of Finland. The lake is free of ice already in April, and then the golden time for tourists begins. Although, this does not diminish the advantages of the lake in winter. In winter, there are also plenty of opportunities for a wonderful pastime - for active winter recreation and winter sports, as well as for a fun holiday with a whole group or family.

Children's Toy Farm is an amusement amusement park in the city of Kuopio, Finland. It is located on the territory of the Rauhalahti complex. In addition to many different attractions and toys, the amusement park has its own theater, as well as a circus, where, in addition to circus performances, children are introduced to the art of clowning. In addition, horse riding lessons are available at the estate. There is also a toy store at the estate, where there are a variety of types of toys, which means everyone can find something for themselves. Children will also be able to play various types of games.

During the Christmas season, as it should be, miracles come to life here. Santa Claus himself (albeit Finnish) arrives on a sleigh, and together with his faithful assistants, the gnomes, he pleases and amuses the children. The gnomes entertain the children and organize competitions, and Santa Claus listens to the children's wishes and gives them gifts. Parents can safely leave their children in such reliable hands and find entertainment for themselves, especially since there are plenty of them in the Rauhalahti complex.

A visit to the children's toy estate in Kuopio will leave children with the most positive memories of themselves, as well as a desire to visit it again.

Kuopio Cathedral

The Kuopio Cathedral is a beautiful architectural monument of the 19th century, and also the main religious landmark of the Finnish city of Kuopio. The cathedral is located in a very picturesque area, attracting a huge number of tourists and believers.

The cathedral was built in Kuopio in 1816. Two architects took part in its construction - the original design of the temple was created by Jacob Riif, and the building acquired its final form under the leadership of Pehra Palmrut. The cathedral is an expressive example of such an architectural style as neoclassicism.

Currently, the Kuopio Cathedral belongs to the Finnish Evangelical Lutheran Church and is listed as an active parish church. However, in addition to believers, this beautiful cathedral also attracts quite secular tourists - the architecture of the building captivates with its antiquity, and a very special, peaceful atmosphere reigns inside the temple.

In honor of their honorary citizen, the city even installed a beautiful bronze bust of Snellman in the center of the park, surrounded by flower beds and manicured lawns.
