An excellent place for families with children, the entrance to the sea is gentle. But shopping here is not very good.

Titreyengel

The village got its name from the lake of the same name, here the most beautiful river in Turkey Manavgat. Quiet rest with a sandy beach (though sometimes pebbles are also found). Sometimes stones are found at the entrance to the sea. There are many cafes, bars with incendiary parties and small shops with souvenirs. However, for a full-fledged shopping it is better to choose another place.

Safety - what to watch out for?

The Side area is a tourist area, so it is enough to adhere to the usual security measures:

  • leave valuables, documents and large amounts of money in the hotel safe;
  • do not leave things in the front seat of the car during stops.

Founded in the 7th century. BC e. natives of Kim Aeolian. For several centuries Side was an important port of Pamphylia, located on the Malaya Peninsula. Today, the most popular Turkish beach resort annually receives thousands of tourists from all over the world who have decided to spend their holidays on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea. Dozens of various hotels have been built in Side, restaurants with national cuisine have been opened, and an extensive excursion program has been developed by local travel agencies.
The climate in the beach area of \u200b\u200bSide is Mediterranean with dry and quite hot summers. The air temperature in the sea does not drop below + 17 ° С even in winter, and in July-August the water warms up to + 27 ° С. The swimming season starts on the beaches of the resort in early May and lasts until mid-November.

Choosing a beach

The old center of Side has two beach areas, each with its own characteristics:

  • The western beach in the center of the resort is very popular among adherents of a quiet family vacation. The entrance to the sea in this part of the beach is shallow, the water warms up faster, there are no holes and dangerous currents. Parents with children are usually located on West Beach, for whom a comfortable and safe vacation is a priority. The disadvantages of the beach are its immense popularity among tourists and, as a result, the problem with finding places if you like to sleep long in the morning.
  • On the East Beach, lovers of solitude and silence will like it more. The strip of sand here is set off by coniferous or orange trees, and civilization in the form of renting jet skis and parachutes for parasailing is very reluctant to get to the east.

If you prefer an active holiday and keep track of your fitness even while on vacation, a variety of entertainment awaits you on the seaside in Side. The resort's West Beach is home to all kinds of water sports, from diving to fishing and yachting to snorkeling. Equipment can be rented right on the shore.
The seaside in Side is divided between hotels and you will hardly be allowed to freely get to the beach of an expensive hotel. And on the municipal beaches you can go freely, and you only need cash to rent a sun lounger or umbrella.

Divers note

The coast of Side is washed by the Mediterranean Sea, which is not one of the most beautiful on the planet in terms of the underwater world. And yet divers come to the resort, and their main target is the sunken objects. Those who are keen on river diving in the vicinity of Side are invited to explore several sites that are of considerable value in the ranking of similar places.
The most popular diving site off the coast of Side is located near the old one. During the Second World War, a warship belonging to the French army sank here. In the coastal waters of the resort rests in peace an American plane that crashed in battle in the 40s. last century.
Fans of bright fish will appreciate an underwater trip to coral reefs - modest in comparison with other dive sites on the planet, but very attractive for novice athletes.
Diving centers have been opened in Side. Even ten-year-olds can attend courses. Experienced instructors, some of whom are Russian speaking, teach the basics of underwater walks and organize the first diving sessions.

Children's rest in Side

Even the most ardent fans of seaside holidays can get bored of the monotony of the beach, and therefore the tourist infrastructure of Side provides for various active entertainment. Young tourists are invited to visit water parks and nature reserves.
Waterplanet, the closest water park to the resort, is built right on the beach. One of the largest in the region, it has a wide range of attractions and entertainment. The water slides of the water park are thought out perfectly and are arranged so that both kids and adults can enjoy the ride.
When choosing where to stay in Side, pay attention to hotels that specialize in children's recreation. Many hotels have their own water parks and sea water pools on the territory. This makes it possible to comfortably rest and swim, even if the weather deteriorates for a short time and the sea becomes unsafe.

Ruins at sunset

Like many other cities in Turkey, Side has ancient Greek roots. The first information in ancient sources about Side dates back to the 7th century BC. It was founded by people from the city of Kim Aeolian, which was the second largest settlement in the region at that time (after Smyrna).

The local population 2,700 years ago spoke the Sidet language, which is extinct and belongs to the Indo-European family. In one of the Anatolian dialects of the Greek language "Side" means "pomegranate". In antiquity, the city belonged to the Pamphylia region and was its largest port. The location for the construction was well chosen - along the port on both sides. Already in the 5th century BC. the city minted its own coins.

In 334 BC. the army of Alexander the Great entered it without meeting any resistance. After the collapse of the unified empire of Alexander the Great, the city was owned by the Hellenistic states, ruled by the Ptolemies and Seleucids. In 190 BC. it became the site of rivalry between Rhodes and Syria. It is interesting that the fleet of the latter was commanded by the famous commander Hannibal from Carthage, and the Romans supported Rhodes in that war. In the II century BC. Side turned out to be a relatively free city, located between the possessions of the Seleucids and the state of Pergamum. It was in those years that the new port of Attalia (now Antalya) appeared.

Side became famous as a pirate base. They were defeated by the Romans in 78 BC, and by the end of the century the city became part of the province of Galatia. Until the 3rd century BC. it flourished, in its best years it was inhabited by 60 thousand people. It was during this period of its history that most of the surviving ruins belong.

From the 4th century A.D. the Christian period of the history of Side began. First, the city experienced decline due to the raids of the highlanders, and then revival, as it became the seat of the bishop of Eastern Pamphylia. The hospital building has survived from those years. In the 7th century, it was often ruined by Arab pirates, which is why the city again experienced a period of decline and desolation.

In the Seljuk period, it was known as “Old Antalya”. During the years of the Ottoman Empire and the Turkish Republic, it was never able to regain its former glory, and by the beginning of the XXI century it had about 10 thousand people.

In the winter months there is from 200 to 220 mm of precipitation, and in summer their amount is less than 10 mm, in August, for example, 2. Once the Roman general Maar Antony built this fortress in the mountains to protect Side. It is little studied, in 1975 a short excavation was carried out. In the 7th century, it was abandoned due to drought. Now, among the objects of Seleucia, one can observe the agora, gates, mausoleum, Roman baths, and a necropolis. All this splendor is hidden among the pine forest.
