Cheap bungalows in Koh Chang. Where on Koh Chang can you rent cheap housing for a long term? Koh Chang accommodation for a month

In this post we will tell you about our adventures in finding a house and a bike on Koh Chang.
The post can be considered the final one about Koh Chang; it will contain exclusively practical information - about the features of renting a house and a bike.

Looking for housing

Having lived on Samui, we were completely relaxed in terms of finding housing. At any time of the year, there are no problems with housing here; there are definitely several free houses on the entire island. Therefore, the search on Koh Chang (and before that on Krabi) put us at a dead end: for three days we traveled around the island from south to north and only with difficulty found suitable housing for us.
There are two main problems with renting housing. Firstly, most of the island is an impenetrable jungle, so all life is located in a narrow strip along the coast. At the same time, almost all housing is represented by resorts with bungalows; advertisements, like on Samui, “House for rent” were seen only a couple at most. Secondly, on Koh Chang, long-term rentals are apparently not yet very developed; people come here to relax for a week, maximum two, and questions about renting for a month lead poor Thais to a dead end. And they do the simplest thing - they multiply the price per night by 30 =)
On the first day we started our search from the south of the island, where we initially really liked it. But everything there turned out to be desolate - there are no options other than small guest houses and bungalows. We saw several villas along the road, under construction and ready, but they were only for sale. We gradually climbed from south to north and here are a few memorable options:

1. Koh Chang Residence- a house with 2 bedrooms and baths for 20k per month on Kai Bay.
Pros: large, 2 bedrooms, small kitchen with everything you need, free internet, nearby tourist area and many cafes
Cons: smelled musty, wooden, no pool
But the main disadvantage was that the house was available only for the first couple of weeks and the last week of the month we needed.
For 2 weeks they asked for 12k, for a month - 20k.

2. We saw a large house almost by the sea, but the owner, under various pretexts, refused to show it (for a large family, no hot water, etc.) and dragged us to an ordinary bungalow. The bungalows were also nice: stone, large, even with a table and chairs, and right in front of the sea, but for 20 grand a month.

3. A room in a small condo on Chai Chete for 6 grand a month - just a bed and a bath, everything is shabby, stale, the condo is right next to the road.

4. Koh Chang Luxury Guest house- a room in the new guest house on Chai Chet for 18 grand per month - also only a bed and a bath, but everything is new and clean, free internet, fitness center, but no pool.

5. Kerdmanee Resort- large bungalows near Chai Chet for 30 grand per month.
Here we were simply shocked: not by the sea, on a hill, one room with a bed, not the first freshness, there is a sink outside the house, supposedly a kitchen, and for that 30 grand! =(
At this stage, we began to think about whether to give up everything and go to Samui, for 15k =)))

6. Keereeta Resort- a Balinese-style room for an incomprehensible price - just a bed and a bath, but everything is new, beautifully decorated, there is a wooden trough in the bathroom, there is a swimming pool on site, the Internet is free. The only thing that remains unclear is the price - we ask the Thai woman (who speaks English with difficulty) “how much per month?”, the calculator says 24,000. Ok. Then for some reason he multiplies by 30 and it turns out 720,000 o_0 At the end we ask again “how much per month? 24,000?”, yes, he says. They never understood each other. We considered it as an option: live 2 weeks in Koh Chang Residence, then 2 weeks in this one, it would come out to 24 pieces (if we understood the price correctly =)

On the way to White Sand Beach we stopped at several complexes of houses (they looked decent) - but everything there was occupied for a long time. And on White Sand Beach itself there are only hotels, bungalows or rooms.
Therefore, we drove further north, along the serpentine road, and on the way we saw an advertisement for apartments for rent in a new condo, and turned off.

Turning towards the house in front of the Chinese temple

There were 3 houses fenced off next to the condo, so we went to find out if they were for rent. The owner turned out to be an elderly hyperactive German named Manfred, he owned both the condo and the houses. Manfred turned out to be a very interesting person, one day we started talking to him and he said that in 1945 he lived in Berlin (he was still a child then) and remembers how Soviet troops took the city. Very positive grandfather =)
Three houses are fenced in a separate area. Because they were all empty at that time, we were offered to choose any one to suit our taste, but inside they were all furnished the same way. During the month we lived on Koh Chang, no one moved into the neighboring houses.
The houses are spacious, one-bedroom with a small kitchen, living room and bathroom. The kitchen is minimally furnished, only a kettle, toaster, plates and forks, a refrigerator, but no stove. In the living room there is a sofa, a TV, one table with chairs (we immediately asked for a second table so that everyone could sit at a laptop). Everything is new, it looks like it was recently rebuilt. Free Internet. There is a swimming pool next to the owner's house, and separate parking for bikes.
To the party beach itself (White Sand Beach) - 10-15 minutes by bike along the serpentine road, to the central pier - about 5 minutes.
The price, however, turned out to be steep - 20k per month, but at that moment we considered this the best option of all that we had seen, and agreed. We sadly thought that on Samui they would ask for a maximum of 12k for such a house, but this is not Samui...

After one night in Bangkok, I reached Koh Chang Island. Or Koh Chang, "Ko" means island. This island has almost turned into a tourist mecca. Packers from Pattaya began to be brought here (especially to white sand beach), and in general, many lovers of beach vegetable holidays come here. Because the island is small (despite the fact that it is the second largest in Thailand) and the entertainment, no matter what, is all geared towards tourists. When I arrive somewhere, I don’t like to drag around with a backpack and look for somewhere to sleep. Initially, when planning my trip to Thailand, I considered the island of Koh Samui, but then plans changed and I went to Chang. I chose the bungalow where to live in advance, on the Internet. For the first two nights I booked through the Agoda search engine Island Lodge. It is located in the area of the white sand beach, but not on the beach itself, but to the side, on a hill in a forest. In general, all the bungalows that I will talk about today are located on this path. It’s easy to find by the sign, just Island Lodge. Or at the Kacha resort hotel. Everyone here knows him, this is where package travelers from Pattaya are brought. The Island Lodge guest house is still good because it can be booked online and paid for online using a card by bank transfer. All other guest houses only accept cash.

The Island lodge sign is a good sign and landmark.
The door is right next to the bed - there is so little space.
Shower and toilet are combined.

The price for bungalows on the white sand beach itself, as my raid showed, starts at around 800 baht, and those that go directly to the beach start from 1300. This was not budget-friendly for me. And then, there is always a crush and a lot of people on the beach. The room in the bungalow is quite small, and it has a fan, in principle the fan is enough, but I didn’t want to stay here. Still a small room, and I found it a little cheaper. A room at Island lodge costs 600 baht on site, 525 baht through Booking, but I think you can bargain. There are rooms with air conditioning in this complex that are more expensive. Standard bathroom and shower; judging by the bites on my legs, there are ants. There is also hot water via a heater. Wifi is also available. Nearby there is a family cafe with very nice chatty owners, two children help with the housework. They even have food delivery over the phone. Only in English they sometimes do not speak clearly.

The next day, while it was raining, I visited 3 more guesthouses in the area that offered bungalows, and moved into one of them. In White sand garden. Many of our compatriots who stayed here wrote about it, and I want to say that this is really a very good option for an inexpensive bungalow on Koh Chang. I chose the cheapest house, with a fan. It has a terrace. Those that are a little more expensive have a TV and more space, but there is no veranda. The bungalow costs 400, they didn’t lower the price for me. The bigger one costs 500. I didn’t look at it with air conditioning, it was no longer budget-friendly. It cost 600. The bungalow has Wi-Fi, although the signal in the house is poorly received, on the porch it is better, but it often falls off. Although it didn’t exist before, as far as I know. And yes, monkeys sometimes come as guests during the day. And not without ants. Although there are almost none in the room, mainly in the shower room, there are cracks, as evidenced by the geckos running around at night. Geckos are not bad either. These are useful animals in Thailand, they eat cockroaches and mosquitoes with muses.

This is where I slept for a week. The bed sheets are changed every two days, by the way.
Shower and toilet. By the way, the shower had a partition on the floor, so the entire floor remained relatively dry.
View from the terrace of the surrounding forest.
This is a larger room for 500 baht.
There is a TV and a chest of drawers.
The houses are located on a small hill, but there is a driveway to the top for scooters.
Guests who come to the boogalo white sand beach during the day.

Between these two, along the road, there are bungalows that seem to be no-name, the sign is not immediately visible, but the owners wrote the name Ton, later I noticed it too. Here the rooms seem to be large, and there is a TV and, more importantly, a refrigerator, but the same fan is located right next to the road, past which bikes are constantly roaring past. Although there is a small veranda with a rocking chair. But also by the road. And it costs 900 baht. But everything was sold out over the weekend. For the New Moon holiday.

View of the house from the road.
Rocking chairs on the veranda.
View from the veranda of the house.
There is only one room in the bungalow.
Tie-style shower and toilet
Another house. They have different pictures on the walls there. They wanted to show me everything 5))) In addition to the refrigerator, there is basically a place where you can cook and cut something.
TV and fan. Light walls. There's a lot of space.

Closest to the road, beyond which the first line of the beach begins, is the Fisherman guesthouse. If it weren’t for the price, which is higher than White sand garden, I might have moved in here. For 600 baht we offer a room with air conditioning and a refrigerator. There is a shared balcony for evening gatherings.

The beds are double beds everywhere. If you travel with a travel companion, it will even be problematic to find two single beds.
Air conditioning and clothes hanger.
TV and small refrigerator.
Shower and toilet.
Shared terrace.

In principle, there are very budget bungalows on the white sand garden right on the beach, for 300 baht. But this is for those who really like to do nothing. I didn’t look inside the room, but according to reviews on the Internet, the place is ambiguous, a stronghold of Rastafarians and hippies at heart. It’s a long walk along the beach here, about three kilometers. It and its neighbor are located on the very edge of the white sand garden. Although, after falling off the bike, I didn’t need anything other than the beach, so it would be quite possible to move here. Although it’s hot all the time on the beach, and cool in the forest where I settled.

The cost of renting a property on Koh Chang depends on what time you arrive and how long you plan to stay. During this review, we saw several options for price segmenting the cost of housing. There is no need to describe them, but you need to know about the main tourist seasons. Most tourists come to the island during the high season, which begins in November and ends in March. During these five months, prices cannot be higher. The peak is the New Year and all the holidays around it. The two months before November and two months after March are the period of moderate rains. The rest of the time it rains very heavily in Thailand, which seriously affects the prices of empty rooms. It is for this reason that many winterers began to go to this region for the winter period as early as August. Those who have lived here for a long time know all the passages and shoals, but for a person who came to the island for the first time, our review will help to find inexpensive housing on Koh Chang. All prices in the review are for the high season.

White Sands Beach. The largest and most expensive beach. But you can also find decent options for little money. On this beach at one of the hotels at the reception desk, I saw a guy whose dental braces were rusty. And one Russian said that in three years his Soviet-made manual meat grinder completely fell apart due to corrosion. It crumbled into small fragments. Here is such a gentle sea and mild climate.

Para Resort. The hotel offers rooms in the building and individual bungalows.

Room inside. Price 2000 baht per night.

SSP Bungalow. A very good option for relatively little money.

House inside. Price 800 baht per night.

Pearl Beach. A small and cozy beach offering good accommodation options. Located just behind White Sands Beach and not so easy to spot.

Baan Ton Rak Boutique Resort. Good value for money.

But for such a number they only want 700 baht.

Rose Garden Resort. A hotel with a very witty and resourceful owner

That's where his resourcefulness lies! In Thailand, they take care of nature and, in order not to cut down the tree, he left it right in front of the entrance to the house.

Rose Garden Resort.

As you can see in the first photo, you can rent a room here for 350 baht per night.

Rose Garden Resort. Room inside.

Chai Chet Beach. Klong Prao Beach. There are two beaches together in this section. The first is very small, but very pleasant, and the second is much larger, but somehow deserted. Hotels here are very cheap.

Sofia Garden Resort. Guesthouse on the first line with a swimming pool, but without direct access to the sea.

Sofia Garden Resort. Building from outside.

Sofia Garden Resort. The pool is included in the price.

Accommodation on Koh Chang. Sofia Garden Resort. The price for such a room is from 400 baht per night.

Accommodation on Koh Chang. Boonya Resort. An excellent option for modest money.

Boonya Resort. The main building of the hotel.

Boonya Resort. Room from 400 baht per night.

Kai Bae Beach. In my opinion, the most practical beach. Great location and low prices. At the very end of the beach, on the border with Lonely Beach, there is an observation deck that makes for beautiful photographs.

Accommodation on Koh Chang. Buzzas Bungalows. A budget option for desperate backpackers.

Buzzas Bungalows. Inside there is only a bed and a canopy, but there is hot water and Wi-Fi.

Sanook Sanang Resort. The hotel is next to an elephant farm, but the elephants do not disturb the hotel.

Sanook Sanang Resort. The area is very well maintained, but the hotel is on the second line. Rooms cost 700 - 900 baht per night.

Sanook Sanang Resort. And for 17 thousand baht a month you can rent a house like this with a guest room, a bathroom, a bedroom and a small kitchen.

Lonely Beach. The beach is for those who want inexpensive, but tasteful. Everything on this beach is cheaper, since it is the farthest from the main piers.

Accommodation on Koh Chang. Day-Night Bungalow. Your own house for reasonable money.

Day-Night Bungalow. As you can see, prices are constantly changing and you can bargain. The house is like a toy.

Accommodation on Koh Chang. Day-Night Bungalow. Everything inside is modest, but the price is 350 baht per night.

See Flower Resort. Located on the first line, fifty meters from the beach.

Accommodation on Koh Chang. See Flower Resort. But inside, for 350 baht, the decor is spartan.

If you arrived on the island without prior reservation and couldn’t find anything right away, the main thing in such a situation is to remain calm and continue the search. There has never been a case on Koh Chang where people stayed overnight on the street. Even if there is nothing that suits you, you can spend one night in a room where people live only by the verdict of the Basmanny Court, but in the morning you can go in search of suitable options. Better yet, book a hotel in advance for a couple of nights, and if you like it, just extend your stay. In any case, you will have a day to make a decision in a calm environment.

Video about housing on Koh Chang and much more.

The island of Koh Chang in Thailand is a haven of tranquility just a few hours' drive from the bustling and never-sleeping Pattaya. You can get here in just 4-5 hours (bus + ferry), but on Koh Chang you can get to know Thailand from the other side: calm, measured and very green. The island got its name because of the large number of elephants that once lived on it (“chang” is translated from Thai as “elephant”). There are really a lot of elephants on the island: there are several parks where you can ride elephants (it costs only 900 baht ($26) in an hour), feed them (you can bring any goodies with you) and even swim with a little elephant in the sea for just 500 baht ($14)!

We found this accommodation through the AirBnb service. It is located on Pearl Beach, between the beaches of White Sand and.

Register on the AirBnb service using our referral link and receive $27 discount on your first trip!

Although, it would be a stretch to call Pearl Beach: there is a rocky shore here, and the length of the beach is very short. Swimming here is uncomfortable, so you will have to walk (or drive) to neighboring beaches.

Deserted but rocky Pearl Beach on Koh Chang

Otherwise, the TP Hut bungalow is nothing to complain about. For just $9 a night, we got a cozy cabin with a private bathroom, deck, and fan.

The room is quite a decent size, we didn't feel cramped. And on the veranda there is a table and chairs and even your own hammock.

The hotel area is beautiful, green and peaceful. In the mornings, birds sing here and not a single story is heard.

The hotel owners are nice and helpful people. By the way, you can rent a bank from them at a fabulously low price: for only 150 baht per day(just over $4)!

The hotel's motorcycle park: no one will be left without transport!

We paid for our house with a fan 300 baht ($8.5). By paying another 200 baht, you could use the air conditioning, but we didn’t need it: it was even cool at night, and during the day we still explored the island.

TP Hut also has family cottages with kitchen and air conditioning for the price 750 baht ($21) per day (perhaps, if you do not use air conditioning, the owner will give a good discount). If we decided to stay on Koh Chang for a longer period, we would definitely use such a house!

Family bungalows at TP Hut on Koh Chang

We can safely say that the TP Hut bungalow on Koh Chang is the best value for money.

And in the hotel there lives a cool dog Chang, everyone’s friend and favorite

Where is the hotel and how to get there

From the pier you will need to take a tuk-tuk and say the name of the beach (). Since it is close to White Sand Beach, such a trip will cost only 60 baht per person. From the main road you will need to walk uphill for about 150 meters.

Hotel TP Hut on the map:

By the way, next to our hotel there is another very interesting and worthy option, hotel Macura Resort:

There are more than 100 different hotels, inns, guesthouses and bungalows on Koh Chang to suit every taste and budget. In this video we talk about how to choose inexpensive housing on Koh Chang. If the video does not play, then click and watch it directly on our YouTube channel.

In addition to the video, be sure to take a look at our wonderful room by the lake, where we lived for a month. Choose accommodation to suit your taste - for 500, 900 or 3000 rubles per day.

There are no hostels with shared bedrooms or dormitories on the island; they are replaced by budget wooden houses, which are called “bungalows”. There is even a hotel where visitors are transported to their rooms in a special trailer going through the jungle. This hotel is called Sea View Resort and SPA Koh Chang.

When looking for inexpensive accommodation, make sure that the hotel name contains the words "guesthouse" or "bungalows". As a rule, such accommodation involves a very economical accommodation option. The price ranges from 200-300 baht/day (200-300 rubles/day) in the low season and up to 400-900 baht/day (400-900 rubles/day) in the high season. By the way, we were on the island throughout November – the very beginning of the high season.

Before going to the island, or anywhere in general, we book a hotel in advance on our favorite sites for 2-3 days. This time is enough to decide whether this hotel is suitable for us or not. If suitable, we book it for a longer period already on the island. If it doesn’t suit us, we go looking for new housing on our own, going to the hotels we like or choosing them on the Internet.

Use these sites when booking cheap accommodation:

The first hotel we stayed at for 3 days was Sofia Garden Resort, located 5 minutes walk from Klong Prao Beach. Very good hotel! With a large swimming pool and two-story houses. There are separate rooms on each floor. There is ample parking space near the houses. Near the hotel there are cafes and restaurants where you can eat delicious food at a very reasonable price. The hotel also has an inexpensive sauna.

Inside there is absolutely all the amenities: a large double bed, a refrigerator, a TV, which we never turned on, air conditioning, a toilet and a heated shower in one bottle. In general, a wonderful room costing only 700 baht/day (700 rubles/day). Later we found out that this hotel also has rooms with a fan at a price of 500 baht/day (500 rubles/day), but we do not advise you to save on this.

During three days on Koh Chang, we also found this complex of 20 bungalows on the hillside, where our friends settled. It's called Kerdmanee Resort. It takes about 20 minutes to walk to Chai Chet Beach. But this does not matter, since you can rent a motorbike.

There are no special differences inside: a large bed, a refrigerator, a TV, air conditioning, a toilet and a heated shower. But due to the distance to the beach and the lack of a pool, the price here is much lower, only 500 baht/day (500 rubles/day) per house. You can choose from several different room types: with one double bed or with 2 double beds, which can accommodate either 2 or 4 people per room. The cost of a house for 4 people is from 900 baht/day (900 rubles/day).

We initially decided that we would live economically, but here’s to you... We accidentally found such an amazing hotel Blue Lake Resort & Spa Koh Chang, consisting of luxurious houses located around a small pond with a fountain that woke us up in the morning. This place simply turned our heads and we couldn’t refuse it, even though it cost us 900 baht/day (900 rubles/day). In general, the cost of a room in this hotel is 1,500 baht/day (1,500 rubles/day), but through long negotiations we still managed to reduce it, since we were staying for a long time. And it was worth it! See for yourself how beautiful it is!

Every day you wake up and feel like the hero of a film who has gone far out of town, where there is silence, tranquility and complete harmony with nature, to write his new book. But instead of a book, we have a video blog about traveling “On Our Own.” There are also a lot of gigantic fish here; they constantly swam near our house and for good reason: we fed them every morning. By the way, this really helps to wake up in a good mood. And Chai Chet beach was a two-minute walk away.

The inside is simply magnificent. There is everything that was in the first two hotels, but what was not there were such large windows overlooking the fountain, houses and mountains shrouded in greenery. Waking up with such a view from the window is a pleasure.

We lived here until the end of our trip to Koh Chang. It was unforgettable!
