Palace of the Trocadero. Trocadero Square

It is located on the right bank of the Seine, on the same axis with the Military Academy and the esplanade of the Champs de Mars. In the Middle Ages, there was a fortress on the site of the Chaillot Palace.

History of the palace

The Palais de Chaillot was built in 1878 before the World Exhibition. The extensive building stood for more than 60 years and was extensively renovated before the next World Trade Forum was held in 1937. The architects of the Palais de Chaillot were Carlu, Boileau and Azema. The palace consists of two arched wings, each of which is 195 meters long. From the terrace of the Palais de Chaillot there is a beautiful view of the Eiffel Tower, the Champs de Mars and the Military Academy. Today the palace building houses an extensive museum complex.

In the eastern wing of the palace there is an exhibition of monumental art. The western wing houses the Maritime Museum, which was moved here from the Louvre. On display in this museum is a model of the ship “Pretty Woman”, on board of which Napoleon’s ashes were delivered to France. The Museum of Man, which displays ethnographic and anthropological collections, is worthy of attention. This museum is famous for its unique documents on the origins of man.

Another interesting one museum at the Palais de Chaillot is the Cinema Museum with a huge collection of exhibits telling about the history of cinema. Just below the level of the palace, in the depths of the hill that descends to the Seine, there is an underground hall of the National Theater Chateau, the stage of which is located directly under the Seine. The interiors of the theater are also decorated with decorative paintings by Maurice Denis, Friez, Dufy and Bonnard.

Garden of the Palace of Chaillot was also reconstructed after the 1937 World's Fair. The exhibition area is decorated with powerful fountains, which are the largest fountains in Paris. This garden has an aquarium containing all types of fish found in the rivers and lakes of France.

Located on the opposite bank of the Seine River from the Eiffel Tower. It is located on a hill where an ancient castle once stood. In 1937, construction of a new Palace – Chaillot (Palais de Chaillot), which was timed, like many other things in Paris, to coincide with the 1937 World Exhibition.

The building of the Chaillot Palace dates back to the 30s, it is made in a laconic, rather austere style, characteristic of that time. The absence of rich decor and bright colors, emphasized geometric shapes, all this is characteristic of constructivism. The structure consists of two large pavilions, deployed in the form of arcs, between which there is a 60-meter terrace. It offers a magnificent, most successful view of the symbol of Paris -. This is also where the garden and park complex begins, which combines beautiful flower beds, ponds, amazing staircase descents, sculptures and unusually large fountains (the most powerful in Paris!).

Today in the halls Chaillot Palace are located:
